  • Review of CEYOMUR CY95 wildlife camera with solar panel
    Available from:
    Amazon UK: www.amazon.co....
    Amazon DE: www.amazon.de/...
This is the latest camera from Ceyomur, the CY95, which is immediately distinguishable from the rest of the range due to its solar panel. When used in daylight the solar panel charges the camera's internal lithium battery which keeps the battery topped up while the camera is in use outdoors. I have yet to test it in the British winter but having seen how well it charges even in cloud or through a glass window, I am optimistic that it should perform well. The internal battery can also be charged via USB using the port beside the micro-SD card slot and there is the option of using AA batteries as a backup power source too.
As usual, the Ceyomur CY95 camera is well made and highly weatherproof, IP66 to resist rain/snow ingress. It has sturdy clips holding it tightly closed and ensuring it is weather-proof, a rear tripod mount and loops to attach the supplied webbing strap for fastening it around a tree or post and is camouflage pattern so its appearance doesn't stand out when in use outdoors. A 32BG micro-SD card is included and the camera arrives partly charged so it can be used straight from the box although, to gain best performance from the internal 4400mAh battery, it's advisable to give it a full charged first via USB, following which it can be recharged via solar.
Operation is simple. A detailed user guide is included but on pressing the Menu button by switching into TEST mode then pressing the circle button with arrow, the set-up menus are displayed on the screen with options for selecting the Mode (photo, video or both), PIR sensitivity (I use low for larger animals or high for smaller wildlife), time-lapse - eg to take a series of photos of sunrise to sunset or the opening/closing of a flower), image size - up to 20MP, impressive video resolution up to 4K (MP4) with audio along with date, time etc all of which are selected by pressing the OK button then using the arrow up/down/left/right to navigate through the menus then exiting by pressing the circle button again.
At the foot of the screen, the battery power level can be read for both the internal battery and the 4 AA batteries, if used. When the solar panel is charging, this too will be indicated on the screen.
The camera has built-in WiFi and Bluetooth so images can be viewed via a smartphone, without having to physically remove the camera from its location, and this also allows the camera to be fully operated remotely including changing the settings. To use - download the Game Camera Pro app, switch on Bluetooth on the camera, pair with the phone then switch on the camera's WiFi, select this on the phone and the app connects seamlessly allowing full control of the camera. (Note - the camera does need to be within 10m rather than transmitting images to a server for remote connection.)
Camera performance is excellent in all conditions, day or light, light or dark and it is weatherproof for use in wet conditions so safe to use year-round in any weather. Image quality is excellent with the wide angle lens ideally suited to capturing wildlife even when close to the camera.
The camera is ideally suited to capturing footage of wildlife where it can be left unattended for weeks or months due to its solar panel keeping the internal battery charged or simply wildlife visiting the garden. It can also have other uses for security - monitoring trespassers or prowlers or even unsupervised tradespeople to check whether they wander around the property, peer into cupboards or to confirm any suspicions of unscrupulous behaviour.
I have used most of Ceyomur's range of wildlife cameras and have found all them to be well built, very well designed, producing excellent footage and they are affordably priced too with a camera to suit every budget and and different user requirements. In my view, this CY95 is the best of them all to date due to its solar charging and high specification with 4K video. The CY65 camera offer the same benefits of Bluetooth and WiFi allowing images to be monitored and downloaded remotely via Game Camera Pro phone app without disturbing the camera but offers only 1296P 30fps video in MP4 format while the CY70 offers 2.7K video but without Bluetooth or WiFi.
The camera has been in daily use since delivery and maintained its charge even in dull, cloudy weather and has become our favourite.
