Just returned to boarding, yesterday, after a 25 year hiatus. Day 1, I had an issue with my 25 year old Technine bindings with a screw hole stripping out on on of my straps. Purchased a set of these Nidecker bindings, last night. Wow, what a difference. Just the process of strapping in during the day, did half the job of wearing me out. Obviously, I'm not as limber as I was when I was 20 years old and I don't have as much stamina. The fact that I can just step in without sitting down to strap in is a huge energy saver. I definitely don't have my sea legs under me after such a long time, so when I tried strapping in, while standing, things did not go well. This is a game changer for me.
I most certainly do not ride to a level that would expose a preference in binding stiffness, at this point. The ease of use is king to me. I suspect that I will never be much more than a all mountain carver. At most, I would see myself doing a small side jump when I get comfortable again. I'm pretty certain I will never be looking for anything with higher performance than these bindings provide.
Relax buddy with the jumps, you gotta work the next day 😂
I own a pair. I ride it on a Capita BSOD and love it. I do ride with skiers sometimes because they’re my friends😉. I work in a shop and it’s become our most sought after binding.

Just snagged a pair of these online and looking forward to trying them out. Your reviews are always what I'd call professionally raw! If you trust it I'm in. Was just out riding for the weekend on my Bataleon Blaster Asymwraps on an Evil twin. They felt great and always locked in but at 42 with two kids and trying to help the wife I'm looking forward to the ease of access of these Supermatics. Fingers crossed.

I just got myself a new pair of these. Honestly, I loved them, super convenient to put on, just get off the lift pedal a few and step on the go. It’s good thing I’ve watched this video tho, because I was removing the front one with my toes😅, definitely don’t wanna break ‘em. Overall I really liked it. Thanks for the review.

My 2024 Supermatics were delivered this morning. I've not used them yet of course but liking the look and feel of them very much.
I just ordered the Supermatic to pair with my new Thraxis boots! Previously was riding Burton custom bindings with K2 Maysis boots. For me I will have improved control and stiffness along with ease-of-use that's a step up for me. Thank you for your review it was helpful.

And as you mentioned, I got this mainly because I'm always going with a group of fiends or family and most of them are skiing. I was using different flow bindings previously, but when I saw this released I wanted to grab a pair! Will report back later on how easy was it to get used to.

I bought these after a lot of consideration and then came back to check your review again and I agree with most of it. I am an older rider, I do ride with skiers, I was looking for something middle of the road and comfortable, I did hate that Clew bullshit. This binding is perfect for me. Only thing I found wasn’t accurate was the muscle memory thing. I found it super easy to get into first time every time so that might be more of an individual thing. Gotta hand it to Nidecker, they did a great job with this binding.
Nice honest review. Been riding Mala EST's (Straight Chuter) and Now Drives (Y-PYL) for last few seasons, really looking forward to these coming out. Had a pair of K2 Cinch years back and liked them but they got a bit shabby before their time. Cheers fella....

Great review. I did a fort thoughts review on these and I agree on a lot of what you said. The worst part for me was getting used to getting out. It’s a bit awkward especially when you’re on a bit of a slope and you have to stay on your heel edge. For me it’s been a good binding for mellow resort riding with my kids.
Got a set coming to me soon. I tour people at the resort so this will work for those days of riding as I seem to go in nd out oif the binding frequently.

I don't know if you'd be able to find them this season, seem to be sold out almost everywhere and then a delay in shipping. Next season makes far more sense.

Thanks for the review on the clew bindings,i bought these end of the year and as of yet not used my supermatics and i have said to a few riders i know that if i dont get on with these i was going to sell my supermatics for clews...but since i got a real review ion clews i will stick with my supermatics.

I'm on k2 clicker xb. Spendy but I like them. I'm old af now and can't afford a sherpa to do my bindings up for me. Prior to my clickers I was riding gnu mutants rear entry. After three season the heal cup ripped the soul off my boot.
Looks like the rollers solved that issue.
Nice review man. I think these will sell well. Being able to use any boot is a major benefit over the Burtons.

After back surgery in 2019 and arthritic knees I went to Flow a couple years ago and have been pretty happy with them. With Flow you get what you pay for. The cheap models do not work near as well as the higher end models. These look interesting.
@@christobey4198 I've heard mixed reports on Flow bindings. Avoided them but feel I should have checked out the higher end ones. Just checked Nideckers price list and coming in around the same as a set of top end Flow. I'll try to get a set of each to try out on a few runs. Cheers. Hope your back is ok now!
@@alannilsen5818 Back has been good, thanks. I've been running the Flow NX2 bindings for the last couple years. They are pricey but I've found both pairs of mine on sale at EVO for less than $300.
I’m looking at tons of supermatic reviews lately and came to the conclusion they are the snowboard equivalent of automatic gearbox in cars. Everyone complaining they are not as pure and connected like a manual but ultimately, realistically, still enjoyable to drive.
ya i got burton step ons cuz all my family skiis. It saves me like 10 seconds per lap max, but i always keep my union's on deck for when im away from the skiiers. step in tech is probably the future but nothing beats a strap
that review is everything you need to know about angry! such a controversial product (not core enough) but he still doesnt hate. instead he puts aside the "core" opinion and just does what hes best in, doing a badass review for a majority of riders. I dont look any further than angry and companies should make him rich. you really sell product.
Preordered a pair a few weeks back, previoulsy rode with Cartels before my "current" which is Flow NX2s - I just like trying out different options. The flows i felt I had to tighten a bit to get how I liked them and then they sort of 'pinched' the back of my boots which i wasn't really into. Looking forward to trying the Nideckers out especially if they feel like the Cartels.

I love my Supermatics. Now that they have them in Cyan I'm heavily considering getting either those or the Union Forces for my new Golden Orca.
Appreciate the review. My wife has a herniated l4/l5 disk so sitting to strap hurts and bending over to strap is a no go. Had a bad gut feeling about clew, saw your review, and appreciate your honesty. Watching this review I think this is the best non Burton step in alternative. My only concern is all the moving parts and complicated engineering to make this work. I feel the mechanism will wear down after a few years and something will break.
That’s why you check on things to make sure they are in working order. Do you not check on your car?
Came back after watching the clew video. Being an owner of the supermatics FUCK am i thankful i decided on those. Took my legs like 10-15 days to get used to em but now me n my thunder thighs are chillin
I have both the Clew and Supermatics, and used them at Brian Head, UT this past week. While it is a little awkward having the Clew heel stirrup attached to your boot, I found it easier getting in and out of the base plate. Walking around with it was not too bad and hardly feel that it was on. I had a little difficulty with the Supermatics, but I think it was more user error than anything else and I'm gonna test it again when I go back in a couple weeks. With the Clew bindings, I did not have to bend down as much to release the handle than bending down to press the lever on the Supermatics.
The supermatics requires a bit more knack to it, but once you get the muscle memory and knack, it's freaking easy. You only need to bend down once on the Supermatic if you get good at it, because once one boot is free, you can stand up and use your other free foot's heel to depress the other lever - I also think it's a better technique because I find that you have to continually press on the lever until it's well disengaged.
awesome review.. I don't hate my Burton steps but I'd consider trying these for the reasons you mention (boot options and parts), I don't hate the Burton boots that much but I did have to get custom arch support for them which blew the price out of the water even further for the overpriced setup, I'm in the Midwest we spend 10x more time on the chair and at the top and bottom of the hill then actually riding but out west I'd rather have these or traditional bindings, still not as confident on the Burtons holding vs other bindings even though they haven't scorched me.
I'm snowboarding since 1990 and I may concider these biding =) But I would love to try them first

47 year old rad dad/average shit muncher here. I have two young kids I'm teaching so in/out of bindings all the time. Plus our Midworst runs are short AF so these will be a great addition to the collection. If I'm riding powder out west, I'll keep my Falcors. Not having proprietary step in Frankenstein boots for my f'ed up feet is a huge plus.
I love the look of these, really want to get a pair, but they're a bit pricey for me at the moment.
These look interesting. I have the Flow NX2 bindings I can tell right away that these have a better design because the foot strap lifts up alot more than the Flows. I struggled getting my boot in/out easily. Another thing to mention that alot of people will overlook is that rear entry bindings will have the back strap hanging over the back of the board as you skate (back foot free) and I caught myself hitting it quite often and even tripped/tumbled onto the ground. Tbh, I'd love to try the Supermatics but I still prefer a traditional front entry binding and just put the back strap into the down position when I need to skate. Is it too much to assume most people, after a dozen or so times, know how to strap in quickly without having to sit down.
you can push the high back forward and past the upright position to skate exactly the same as a traditional binding. Look up Malcom Moore's 2 reviews on them, he rode them for six weeks before making his first review, and he made a second review based on feedback from his first. in the second review he addresses the skate and chair lift clearance question.
i got to demo it last year. i was in the complete wrong size so im sure that it was taking me longer to get into then the average person would in the correct size but i still got in much quicker than anyone with straps. when i was riding it was a burton cartel, a union force, it was a standard binding that just squeaked a little. on the chair lift though... that was really heavy dragging down on my legs. if they can cut weight over the next couple years this will be huge
I'm on the verge of wanting bindings like these for convenience, but am not quite ready for lacking performance. I am happy to see all the new styles of 'step in' bindings and hopefully we have a lot of robust options in a few more years.
@@jonathanross2304 my main issue with this design is I heard that you have to keep it somewhat looser to get your foot in an out. Another review said that they had to keep it basically one click less than they normally would have wanted.
@@mushieslushie Not really to an extent. I have the Supermatics and crank them as tight as my other bindings. If you're cranking the straps too tight it usually means your boots are too big and not snug. Sliding in the boot is tight but not impossible. I have found the knack on how to do it. I.e. when it's dry/first click in of the day, I lube the heel roller with some snow/dig my boots in the snow to get some wetness before sliding in. It helps if your boot heel has a rounded tapered edge, mine doesn't, all I do is then slide my first foot in and do a pogo stick with one foot so all my weight is on that foot and that usually is enough to click in. Once one foot is in, the other foot is super damn easy. And if you're OCD about being clicked in, just do an ollie at the start of a run and that will be enough force to lock you in for sure. And do these bindings perform? Yes they do, ridden on pow, icy slopes, black mogul runs, groomed, end of day slush, and it rides just as well as my other straps - I've done euro carves on this thing. I've ridden it on a "soft" board like the Ride Twinpig and a "mid-hard board" such as the Yes Great Uninc. It's an all mountain binding - if you're looking for something more specialist like you ride 99% park then get something lighter and softer.

There are few users this suits better than the rest. As you said, us old fucks with big bellies, people who board with skiers (they could be family members. You can't pick those). But also us who board on short runs. My local spot is effectively a pimple. Runs are easily under a minute.
And then there are those that hone on parks. Hike up to a certain jump or rail time and time again. I'm not completely sure that these are the most comfortable to strap on on slope, but I guess parks usually are mellow enough for it to work.

Step-On or Supermatics?
Let's say i am in the process if changing my ski friends. But still need new confortable bindings for a super easy entry.
As a father who rides with his kids i think these are a godsend when im teaching my kids to ride.
Might not be the binding i use to drop in the pipe , but i keep my malavitas for that.
Do you feel a stiff boot will be hard to engage in the supermatic?
No, if anything it just adds some response to it.

I was convinced and bought the Supermatic for 300€ but in my local board store they recommended the Force instead (they did not test the Supermatic though, only flow bindings)
For „All Mountain“ Purpose. After reading and watching a lot of reviews I estimated the Supermatic being like the force also a great Allrounder with the benefit of the the quick access.
Would you agree or buy the Force 2024 for having a better overall performance?

Looking to pick up some bindings for my old man, all mountain. He rides a Jones Frontier I got him last year as he was still on his same super stiff board from 1990! He bought the cheapest boots and binding he could find in the local brick and motar and after a season suprise suprise they've both broken. Pursuaded him into researching some boots and trying some nicer ones out and he settled on some Rome Libertine Laced boots. Going to get him new bindings as an early christmas present. Are these worth it for the older rider who can get some pain when bending over to strap in? Should I get him some normal bindings or wait for next years Supermatics? He will rip anything so any cheaper but still very solid all mountain bindings?
It's kind of your call on that. These take a little more force than people think to get into and the getting out motion is different. But I think at this point anything is better than what he's had.

So if someone likes their bindings a bit on the stiffer side(Rome Targa, Flux XF, Bent Metal Solution, Fix Magnum, Nitro Phantom Carver etc.), would this be worth giving a shot or would it be more on the softer/flexy side?

Guess I am gonna get myself a pair now. I will work as a SB instructor for the first time this season and figured it can't harm to have a failsafe way to be faster than my students when strapping in.
@Angry Snowboarder do you think it works with Nitro parts? I still have a few straps laying around and could change them if the Nidecker ones are too soft.
Fuck if I know go try it yourself. But great option for teaching beginners.
I wouldn't do it. The ratchets have locks on them so it doesn't change when you are getting in and out. -TC
Liking my 2024s so far.
Two minor issues: the sole band on Vans Aura OG seems to struggle setting down into the heel cup-without the heel roller they might not have gotten past the hinge. I also notice an occasional "false release", where pressing the release lever without enough force requires fully re-locking the binding before you can use the release lever again.
At an age and body type where fiddling with strap levers is more tiring than an actual run, I vastly prefer these to traditional bindings.
Rode this with my rome black label bindings and k2 thraxis boots.
your review of this is the only one I trust - meaning I'm still likely doomed - but good for Nidecker for going the R&D distance on this
Here's my theory on this, first year product like this will probably be a little wonky still, but year 2 and 3 things will be more dialed in.

I’m glad you reviewed these. It’s a bit weird that you shit on the Clew from a picture (or video… can’t remember) and are glowing on these. I’ve ridden both and the clew were better (to me) although I didn’t keep either. Prefer my Atlas bindings. ✌🏽
First off I'm not "glowing" on these. It's just a better designed product with more R and D and budget behind it. Second Clew took a over engineered 3D design from concept to sale without multiple generations of testing. It's designed to fail and having seen it fail at 1 of the critical design flaws already when they're using the consumer as the guinea pig validates to me that it's not a good product. The other factor that validates to me it's not a good product is hearing people of influence being told "we won't send you anything if you can't guarantee a positive only review". That right there says they don't even believe in their own product.

Angry man correct. I got clew due to back pain, 2nd day riding back binding popped out, luckily was 2nd turn in, no speed. Can’t trust em ever again it coulda been serious injury if I was at any speed
I was with my buddy who was raving about his clews. That same lift as he got off he was having problems latching in. He spent the entire day trying to fix them and tell us how good they were when they work 🤣🤣 me and my buddy who has step ons just rode off. No friends on pow day
@@itsjaynguyenI saw exactly this happen in Austria about a month ago, the guy was stomping but the Clew wasn’t clicking in, meanwhile all his classic binding buddies were already off
Just read your review. much appreciated. I was seriously looking at the Clew bindings but after seeing your honest review I am now staying away from them. This Nidecker binding look my alternative. You say these bindings are average in performance I was wondering if they will allow for good carving? I am returning into snowboarding after a 20 hiadis. I live in the east so now pow for me , besides I was used to carving in hard boots. to top it off I'll be 70 this year.
You can carve with the Supermatics. It wont be like a hard boot but they do have enough response to get low and drive your turns.

Great review, I am that old guy that can but doesn't want to sit or bend over to strap. I was going to upgrade my Flows to the "NX2 Fusion" which are the same price.

Wouldn't be my first choice.
They're awesome resort binding, especially the East Coast cuz we don't got high mountain/long runs so we're mostly on and off the lift compared our west coast counterparts lol like he said in the review, middle of the road binding, more like a jack of a trades master of none but with that said it performs great everywhere. Not so great in powder to step in but you can strap unstrap traditionally, it's awesome All Mountain binding and getting off and on the chair lift puts a huge smile on my face

They're going to feel more rigid laterally in the heel just due to the mechanism, but overall they're closer to mix of the Malavita and Cartel.

Hey AngryS- Question for you; I’m interested in the 159 Telos Mike Ranquet. I typically ride all mtn freestyle boards around this length, but they typically have effective edge lengths around 120cm. Is there something other than its directional shape that results in it having an effective edge that’s a noticeable amount shorter then other similar style/length decks? … if I remember correctly it’s 116cm
Mike designed it to what he wanted to ride.

Just got them and just tried them ... do exactly what they say on the box, and super simple to step in and out once you get the technique right, that release lever can be a bit stiff - anyone else feel that? Also, a question ... they seem really tight, and I was constantly having to loosen especially when on t-bar and button lifts (that's Norway for you!) any other comments on that tightness?
Loosen the middle strap one or two clicks, you have then tightened down too much as they're breaking in.

If you have to compare the flex and stiffness to any of the Flow bindings, where’re we at then?
Probably closer to the stiffer NXT line.
Note, the Flows though will not ride the same, the NX2's have the aluminum baseplate and the cable triangle thingie has a more rigid hold on it and the highback (I ride CX & TM's). Still I'm curious to try these out and the regular Kaon's as well.
Have the 2024 model. Sitting at 190lbs, I accidentally put way more weight than I wanted on the release lever once I had my first foot free, the lever didn't break, simply clicked off past its stop and just required lifting back in to its designed range
Been there and done that.
Interesting you hated the KLEW. I met a guy in Austria not hating them, but I didn't like the hard interface with snowboard. I got the flows because they looked like they would have a little more board feel... Still haven't had a chance to ride. The step ons genesis variously disintegrated over 60 days, hammocks fell off, gas edals lost, toe clips wearing out/releasing. But great system for the first couple of weeks.
I’m very interested in these. 7 years ago I had a really bad motorcycle accident and my body just doesn’t bend as well as it used to. I currently have the Flo NX2 that I actually really like. Very comfortable and do what I want and expect. If these make the in and out that much easier I’m game.
How strong is your leg at stepping down? That's the only issue I could foresee, is if you really messed up your leg so downward pressure is an issue. Otherwise I think you're the ideal person for these.
@@AngrySnowboarder other then shattering my femur and braking my back plus a few other things I have full load bearing on my leg so the pushing down to engage the binding shouldnt be an issue. Would be great demo these first but I don’t mind taking a shot on buying them. If it not a good fit for me someone will get a great deal when I list them for sale. Lol. I'm going to bet if you buy them don't like them you could get exactly what you paid for them as they're in such demand.

I think the straps are the same as on Flows and they have been around for a while and work really well. If they are not exactly the same (which would surprise me) then at least the know how has been in the company for a while (Flow is Nidecker owned).
Have you encountered any low chairlifts with this binding? I’m scared it will get crushed.
It's CO all the chairs are low.
Like that they done away with the cable like some other rear entry bindings.

How do we feel about the price point? I feel like 395 is a bit steep for a middle of the road performance in a binding when you have burton selling theirs for 100 bucks less, even though you do save on not having to buy new boots. I'm sure they'll sell every unit they can make this year but I wonder if ~299 isn't a more sensible long term price.

Manufacturing costs are higher for this binding, as there are custom parts not found on any of their other bindings.
they've been in development for 4-5 years (look for the patent on the roller), so they are trying to recoup R&D and tooling costs. that said, the Kaon bindings these are based off of are about 1/3 less.
I got a pair on order. He is right, I give zero f@cks about price being $300 or $400.

Lighter/smaller women beware... Tried this on in the store mounted to my board. Putting one foot in was easy-ish. There wasn't a lot of room to slide my boot in with the straps cinched to the appropriate size, but was able to get my foot in there and click my boot in with a bit of force. When i tired to put my other foot in same issue with a tight fit. I was unable to get them clicked in because i could not put my entire weight to that side with my other foot strapped in. We moved the angle of the bindings, moved them closer together and still did not have enough weight to click them in. This would have been an actual disaster on a slippery surface. Glad i tried them in the store before taking them on the mountain. For reference I'm about 130.

I was thinking about getting these but you say they are for the disabled.
Nothing wrong with injuries or disabilities that limit mobility but still allow for snowboarding. But it must mean you felt that the convenience wasnt worth the performance hit.
I'm a weekend warrior but i don't like it when i can tell my gear isn't performing up to what i am accustomed to.
Can you buy just one binding for your back foot?

I've wanted step ins for so long, but never found anything I fully trusted. These are a different story. I snagged the last pair at my shop, guess we will see if they meet expectations.

@@jday4217 I like them. They work great and have a good overall feel. I will say that if you really like forward lean these may not be for you. I found the more forward lean I added the harder they were to get into and lock in. I did have them open on me a few times, as in my foot would lift out and the highback would fold back, at the start of a run, but I think it was my fault that I hadn't set my heel down hard enough to lock them correctly. My fix for that was once I though I was locked in I would try to pick up my foot and if it didn't open I was good to go. I don't know if I can justify the price, but I will say I wouldn't even consider a different quick entry binding other than this one.

Nice review - given the obvious borrowing of componentry between the two brands (My Flow Fuses have Nidecker foot pads) - any idea if the Flow Fusion strap would fit these? Seems like that would be the ultimate lazy b***ard setup (ie. Me). I'm one of those weirdos who goes out on the slope with skiers, so being able to step off the lift, straight into the binding and head off down the slope is ideal...
I looked at that too and I think as long as the 3 strap system lines up it should be interchangeable, but as I didn't have any to test it with I couldnt.
Why do the sights say sold out? Did I miss the bus or are they not released yet for pre order. Can I pay angry to be my personal shopper to find me two pair?

Calm down. Stuff for the upcoming season usually doesn't become available to buy until September/October. It has been this way for decades... every. single. season.
Evo and house had them for pre order and I guess all the pre orders are sold out. But hopefully many other sites that didn’t do pre order will have them on sale. Based on Evo and house pre order situation, grab one as soon as you see it.
