- Steve Chappell teams up with John Holzhueter on an Arizona archery elk hunt. The conditions are challenging and the rut is slow but they still manage to tag a trophy bull. See more hunt @ElkCampTV
Wonder what created that "spark" right when it entered the bull? Cool video but that is the craziest thing I've seen in a kill shot.
Just pulling this outta my ass, but maybe he was using expandable broadheads and the spark was from the blades opening up??
That is the biggest 5x5 I've ever seen. Congrats!
good shot nice bull!!!
Wonderful job. Some people get discouraged and give up after a couple of days, some after a week, but you kept hunting and have one of the most beautiful 5X5s ever taken; absolutely love it. Congratulations!!
I drew a unit night tag for my first ever elk hunt at age 10. It was a awesome experience
Awesome can’t wait to get a tag 🏷 someday
Great work guys! Happy hunting from Tucson
Great hunt, to start putting in when your in your 40’s and not get drawn until your in your 60’s is a long time. A lot of changes take place physically during those years. So props to this hunter, nice bull with a bow. 👍👍
Keep in mind this couple is from Wisconsin. They probably hunt all over the western US, not drawing in AZ for many years didn’t hurt them a bit.
Unit 9 grows some nice elk but I think we all can agree San Carlos Apache Tribe holds the worlds biggest elk. Good vid.
WMAT maybe
I’d say WMAT hands down
A 340'' 5-point definitely qualifies as a big-five; cool bull.
12:43?? The spark can some one explain?? A broadhead doesn’t spark when it hits bone
My Dream Bull…..5x5. Good for you John!! Glad to see you packing a meat pack anticipating doing the hard work….which is the dirty, best part of the experience! Earning the bull!
Most archery videos I see I’m an archer as well I always see these shoulder shots and it amazes me that 90 percent of hunters hit to far forward and the other 10 percent hit almost hind quarters..
Congratulations! What a hunt!!
Thanks for watching Shawn. :-)
Great hunt
That arrow sparked when it hit that bull
I seen that to
Yes. I had to replay it a couple times.. 👍
Changed the speed on the video to the slowest possible. Wild!
You got incendiary tips on those arrows or what...? Haha.
Nice bull
Nice video
Wait a min did that arrow just spark when he hit it? Why did it do that? Anybody know?
Yeah 13:00 what the heck was that. I’m guessing it was the full metal aka jet brand arrow snapping?
Yes I noticed that too
mechanical opening up. When those blades slam open at an angle they hit the ferrule and spark
That is spot on Cody. The friction of the blades opening and hitting the broadhead ferrule caused those sparks. I didn't realize it until I watched the hit in slow motion.
Awesome video. Too bad you couldn’t have put both husband and wife on the same clip.
Thanks for watching Jerry. Sally's hunt is also on my channel. Here is the link in case you haven't seen that hunt yet... ua-cam.com/video/N88RLzIk2iM/v-deo.html
Right on thank you.
Well no more game cameras, should be fun to see how everyone does without relying on cameras. I'm sure youlldo just fine.
I think somebody already shoot that bull before he did. That arrow sparked!! Did you happen to find an old broad head already in that bull?
ahhh hes shooting mechanical broadheads! Those will spark sometimes when hitting something harder than foam or flesh! cool hunt!
That's exactly right. The broadhead sparked because when it hit the shoulder the friction of the blades opening against the ferrule caused the sparks. Thanks for watching!
@@ElkCampTV Expandable on an elk??? Not wise my friend........
@@Woodsyone expandable broadheads work just fine for elk. just can't shoot the crappy ones(or ones that you have not expirenced success with on smaller game...pigs deer antelope.). I've personally seen over 10 bulls and cows killed with expandable broadheads and if you put the shot where it needs to be its game over. I will say that I have seen a tru fire mechanical broadhead shot with a 70lb bow not even get past the front shoulder on a javelina at 50 yards(I do not recommend that broadhead in anyway). fixed blades are always a solid choice but there's nothing wrong with using mechanical if you are confident with its function, penetration and have seen results prior to using on bigger game.
@@slateroutdoors8701Why not use and promote a style of broadhead that is always proven superior? Sure they can and do kill game, but they're fallible. What happens when a twig makes contact with it? It cartwheels. What happens when a major bone is hit, something we have little control over especially at the 50 yard range you mentioned? Nothing good. Moving parts on a broadhead is asking for trouble and completely unnecessary. It's a gimmick sold to bowhunters who believe that new technology is the answer to everything. And don't give me the line that they're more accurate at long range. Maybe. So what? The challenge in bowhunting is in getting close, not taking shots that are so long that game can be a full body length or more from where it was at the shot. I've bowhunted for 40 plus years with recurve first, compound for 20 years, and now a longbow my father made in his garage and I've never felt the need to shoot beyond 30 yds. You want to show me something, keep your shots close and stick to a tip with something close to a 3-1 length to width ratio. Good huntin'
