Your level of madness is only comparable with the brilliance of your genius and clarity in the explanations. Greetings from Argentina. Excellent work !!
So, having unglued the barrel and given everything a forensic clean. I reassembled, carefully sorted washed and lightly lubed some pellets. These are the results over a 64 shot string (4 magazines):- 909.2 FPS average. 10fps. Extreme spread. I didn’t calculate a standard deviation but I did do another 15 shot string as it seemed to be getting better and better as I shot. 909.2 FPS average. 3 FPS extreme spread! 1.2 standard deviation! I’ve never achieved those kind of figures with any sub 12ftlb rifle, ever! This appears to be quite a ‘soft’ tune as well, around 120 bar on the reg, hst at 17.35 mm. It’s still 46.6 foot pound energy at the muzzle. Do keep up these great vids Meathead Marksman, I wouldn’t have achieved this without them. Thank you again! I’m waiting on range access now for accuracy testing.
Very nice mate! Yeah my method is on the conservative side, you'll probably find you can get more power and still be reasonably consistant with a few more turns of the hammer spring, I just think that staying back from the cliff edge a little bit is good for shot count/ consistency
Always good to watch guys who take a good Airgun and experiment to improve performance , best of all sharing your finds with others ! Kind of reminds me of my hot rod days back in the sixties trying to find better performance out of factory engines ! Thanks 👍
Quick update on a ‘air economy’ retune. Got on a range last week and zeroed at 55 yards (50 metres). Gun was running at 845fps 53 FPE with Super King Mk11 33.95gn. Grouping was all over the place so turned the HST adjuster 1 click to ‘5’ on the dial. That gave me 820fps and a five shot, 12mm edge to edge group. So through this barrel, the heavies respond to slower (I’ve read, or watched that somewhere but can’t find it). Had a pretty poor shot count (around 64 shots) so concluded that it didn’t need 135bar at the regulator. Just followed Meatheads process from start to finish again and these are my new settings:- Regulator set to 115bar (ish....damn these gauges), HST gap 18mm on MAX, but.....turned to ’A’ on the dial to give 815 FPS for 50 FPE- Extreme spread 5 FPS. More range time on Wednesday where I’m hoping the grouping stays the same, damn, wish there was a way to show you this 5 shot group!!!!
Uncle Hodge, excellent information Sir. I received my MK2 this week, and like you, the old FX Impact manual was issued with the new MK2. Hmm. FX if you are reading... "details gentlemen, details". Anyway, there is zip for air gun shooters here in my area in the Common Wealth of Virginia (USA), and as such, there is no information exchange. So far I'm relying on you, Ernest R., and Matt D. . While Matt D. remains an FX Impact icon, and his generalized explanations are very good, your explanations and demonstrations are were the rubber meet the road. And I love your sense of humor too. I am also a Ernest fan... another "let me show you how to do this" guy. Anyway, a shout out to you for taking the time and effort to show your tuning process. It just happens to be I selected the .25 cal, and ordered the same pellets as you did... so this gives me the "about settings" I will probably end up with too... which is another expectation I had from FX... FX, if your reading... how about giving ball park settings for Pressure Reg/Hammer Spring/FPS for several the common pellets and slugs. Uncle Hodge did :) A suggestion for a future video: Same thing, but with your slug liner and selected slug. Once again, Good work Sir!
Thank you for your kind words mate and thanks for watching! I'm planning on doing a slug tune in the near future. Hopefully a new user manual will be downloadable soon, I'd be happy with an up to date pdf from fx.
Following your recipe, I think I did pretty good for a first time PCP guy. My set up is near yours with a MK2 and 25 Caliber (using the exact same pellet i.e. JSB King Heavy MK2 @ 33.95 gr.), however I do have the Donny Fl moderator, and I'm using a SWFA 3X15X42 first focal scope. In my adventure it took approximately 135 shots into the bag to speed tune it and get the following final settings: • Final Valve Stop was at .40 inches • Mean speed was an 916.23 FPS the last ten shots • The Standard Deviation was 2.16 fps • The Extremes were 6.10 spread (low = 913.9 and high = 919) BTW I heard you say something about clay or sand dust... try some rubber mulch. At least rubber mulch around the sand. :) The regulator pressure was set at 138-ish (right side of needle on the 140 gauge mark). It took 6 shots to get the scope near zero, where I started shooting groups. 5-Shot Groups at 30 Yards. 91 F°/56% Humidity, Winds swirling at 10 MPH - Aug. 4, 2019. Group 1 0.280” (7.112 mm) Group 2 0.200” ( 5.080 mm) Group 3 0.200” (5.080 mm) I was going to reset the turrets, but I think I will wait on the slug barrel (still on back-order). I do plan on shooting with slugs 99% of the time. Anyway... pretty easy to follow your MO. I would like to hear your thoughts on Part B, tuning for groups... I will assume once you get the speed about right, then I would think you trade the chronograph for group sizes, and each adjustment is micro-moved at this point. But right now, I'm sort of happy, so I'm not going to fiddle with it anymore until the slug liner gets here. Again Uncle Hodge, thank you - I felt better doing this with a solid method, and data. Joe
@@josephmcguigan8273 good stuff! Group tuning basically follows the same method, if it's not grouping well then you just tune it up 5 to 10 fps- or down 5 to 10fps to have the pellet/slug exit the barrel in slightly shorter or longer amounts of time in order to leave the end of the barrel at the perfect node within it's vibration wave. I rekon yours will group just fin if it's shooting like that at 30m, stretch it out to 50, 75 and 100 on a calm day and see how it goes before changing anything. Make sure you weigh and sort your pellets to eliminate variables aswell. Good job on the tune and Wright up. Cheers mate
@@meatheadmarksman2013 Thanks Hodge. I have word from FX about the manual and the pressures. I will quote: "We recommend the maximum pressure on the regulator to 165-170 bars on the MK2, they will take 180-210 but they will not be as precise at such a high pressure. Regarding the Manual, there will be a Mk2 Version out on our website within the next 2 weeks."
@@josephmcguigan8273 wonderful news! Good to know there's so much juice left... I'd imagine 170bar down the 700mm barrel would be dam near supersonic with a 25 cal... impressive! I'll certainly be downloading the manual when it's available
another great video.... nice to see its not only England that's windy all the time!! been running my 700mm .25 impact x at about 57/58 ftlb @880ish with the mk2's for about 6 months now and its spot on:) way better than the 600mm I bought it with.. keep the vids coming great Chanel
Your video has helped me more than anything I have found so far. Excellent explanation, you are a great teacher. I never touched my factory setting for the two years I have owned my impact. It was chrono’n at 942 FPS with a SD of 3 and a spread of 8. (25 cal 700mm 25 gr) on Max power. I recently bought and installed a power plenum, huma gauges and the dual flow transfer port. I have the reg pressure at dead nuts 110. I am getting 967 FPS, 21 spread and an SD of 5. I think the spread is miss leading as it was the first two shots that created it, if you leave those out then it goes to 11 with an SD of 4. I will try adjusting the hammer and valve next and graph like you did to see my flats next. I would have had no clue how to do this without your help!
A couple of questions: when I start shooting I notice that the first shot and sometimes the second are lower velocity then by the third shot it gets consistent, is this typical? Is it sort or like cold bore shot in center fire and I should delete? Also I ran some mkii 34 gr for a 15 round string at the same settings, velocity dropped to an avg of 833 fps, extreme spread of 12 and an SD of 3. These numbers seem ok to me or is this really too low a velocity for the 34s? I only have access to my 10 yard range at home right now so no significant distance to check accuracy but at 10 they were all in the same hole.
If you want to try a really good medium for catching pellets, I have been using a material called Duct Seal. Pellet traps for a while have been using it and it is cheaply bought a hardware store like Lowe’s or Home Depot her in the USA. It costs about $3.25 for a 1 pound brick. Use as many as you want, I’m using 9 lbs in total. Also a great material for seeing how well your pellets expand. My trap is 2” thick and has stopped everything I have shot at it at about 3/4”-1” deep @ 900-940 FPS w/ 16 grain pellets. Hope this improves your indoor pellet trap. Found out about this material from air gun forums and really glad I did. Awesome stuff. Great video. Thank you.
Hi Mate! I do enjoy Your videos a lot, they are very relaxed (the aussie way) informative and great joy to watch, keep up the good work Mate absolutely brilliant, greetings from Swedish Airgun Forum and FX Country :D
Again, thank you. I did not understand everything you said, but I certainly absorbed enough to get myself into serious trouble (a condition with which I am well aquainted). For instance, the day after I purchased my Impact, I had to phone the dealer. I explained to him that the factory manual failed to list the recommended fill pressure for the bottle and the bottle itself was marked "315 bar max". What is the answer? He looked through whatever he had for info and told me "250 bar." At some later point I happened to pick up the rifle while wearing my reading glasses ( 20/20 at a distance thanks to cataract surgery, but blind as a bat up close) and there on the side of the rifle, directly above the bottle gauge is marked "MAX PRESSURE 250 BAR". As a friend once described my skill set, I may not be good but I'm slow. Keep up the great work. Luv and kisses, Carfunkle
When there is some serious buisiness going down in my garage I am usually wearing "the Work trousers" (t-shirt and briefs) Love your videos, keep it up!
Thanks for this. My brain responds well to the "meathead speak" and being just accross the ditch the dialect termanology helps make even more sense. Am tuning a dreamline at the moment.
@@meatheadmarksman2013 I am sure I will. I have the Crown in .22 as well and I am tagging them starlings out to 97 yards consistently. Just looking to get into some slugs shooting with the Impact in the near future. You have great videos and a great sense of humour, I enjoyed very much.
@@AirRiflePestings thanks mate! I would recommend the 700mm barrel if your looking to shoot slugs from your impact, much easier to get big power outta the slugs with the longer barrel
Got to say, great job mate. I'm sure everyone appreciates all your hard work. People can see the effect of pellets doing the cork screw whirl, being shot at to high a pressure on other channels. Matt has one.
thanks for the research. put my impact mk2 at your settings, maybe a tiny bit more reg pressure (just under the 150 mark). its fantastic. With the power wheel on max the JSB MK2 heavies are cranking away at 915fps with a max spread of 8 over ten shots. Its shooting the 25.39 grain JSB's with the hammer wheel on MIN at 810. really happy with it now. thanks again
I’m getting the standard length barrel in .177 and .22, tuning is a bit tricky as I’m in the UK and need a fire arms certificate to go above 12 ft pounds which I intend to do.
I love your videos Buddy ... I’d to see you, if you do some tuning a fx impact in .177 with some slugs in 13g or 15g to see which one will perform better .
Thank you Meathead for the info, you done a perfect job of showing how to perfectly tune an Impact AG. ( : I did my .30 cal 700 mm barrel like this. It did come from factory set at 140 bar and 850 FPS with 50 grain JSB's, I wanted to be closer 890 FPS with 50 grain pellets and about 910 FPS with 44 grain pellets, so below is what I did. Link to PDF showing my shot strings and 100 yard groups. williamnapier.com/dl/airgun/fxshotstrings.pdf 1. Moved Reg to 150 bar. Which is MAX on the Impact X Also most documentation suggest 150 bar for the .30 cal. 2. Set Hammer Spring adjuster at MAX and fine adjusted allen screw as Meathead showed. " ua-cam.com/video/K5vcg9IFbKs/v-deo.html" 3. Valve Stop ((the knob in front at where the bottle screws on)) at MAX or approx the 4th line on the knob. 4. Check FPS over Chronograph, 5. FPS was 940 using JSB 44 grain and 890+ using 50 grain JSB, a little to high and groups were not as good. 6. Now I adjusted the Valve stop Limiter/travel knob or what ever you want to call it back until the FPS started going down to around 910 FPS for 44 grain JSB and 885 for 50 grain JSB. NOTE: I measured and kept notes on all settings and every shot was shot over the Chronograph even when shooting to see my group sizes. After ending the tune and shooting several hundred pellets I am at the perfect settings for FPS and Group size. I shot groups from 20 yards out to 100 yards with the 50 grain JSB's shooting at the 885 FPS. All shots out to 80 yards were under 1/2" 90 to 100 yards were .90" Center to Center. @@meatheadmarksman2013 Yes indeed they do hit hard, my .357 cal's hit hard as well. Just wanted to share everything you did on tuning the Impact was exactly perfect. I had already did my tuning, but I had to get most of the info from several different sites and sources. Thank you for putting together a complete setup from beginning to end. I showed my results so that everyone would now that the method you put together works exactly as it should. Have a great day and enjoy that sweetly tuned Impact. I want to get a .25 barrel kit for mine or a .22 but the .25 like you said is really a sweet spot between plenty of shots and power if needed. ( :
The best pellet catch I've ever used is a 10x10x12 box filled with chopped up (mulched) tires. Read an article that said it would stop a .223 @ 3600fps at 50yds.
So I am 2 minutes in, reflecting on your Aussie lab coat and thinking... I bet he is wearing only matching Y fronts and thongs ..... I'll keep watching to see if I am right ..... OK got to the end, and my suspicion will never be confirmed! Great video mate, thanks for taking the time and effort to put it together. I will give you credit for my Herman's purchases, although Lukas may be a bit suspicious 👀 Nicely done Sir. 👍🏻
Haha I don't think you tube will allow me to make videos on gun AND with no pants on lol already kinda skating on thin ice haha thanks for watching mate and thanks for the shout out to the guns shop, if enough word of mouth gets around I'll be able to make more videos on cool stuff that I can't afford
Shooters delight I see on the box...I live about 10 mins from that shop...that’s where I got my impact....I haven’t done any tuning with mine as yet though...but hard when the range at Belmont has a “load and fire single rounds only rule” lol
Set up complete! Accuracy testing due, but a question if you’ll be kind enough to answer please? You mention pellet sorting, weighing etc. What do you think is a viable weight differential on 34 or 25 grain pellets? What (if you weren’t “lazy” ;-) ) would you put in the same tin? Cheers
Usually when the mood takes me and I do weigh out ammo I make that decision based on what the spread of weights are and how many storage containers I have. I use those cheap Chinese food containers to separate them into 0.1gr increments and then put then into empty labelled pellet tins in whatever groupings that make sense with the number of pellets in each container
hi mate. for catching pallets try old clothes or any fabric stuffs. 5~6inchs(for the powerfull caliber you can add more) layer and some kinda wood board for a backstop cover with a cardboard box. no dust no bouns works great with large pistol calibers as well + when you clean or open that box clean projectile or pallets you can easily separate to.
Thats a good idea! I'm actually planning on making a heavy steel deflector type trap. Big wood box with an angled steel deflector that sends them into a nice deep thick wood box with sand or whatever else in the bottom. No more pita sandbag nonsense lol
Great video. If you get a chance try the original JSB 33.95. My Impact .25 700mm is more accurate with them at higher FPS. Mine is around 875 FPS. I never tried shooting as fast as you are. Maybe I’ll try it. Again I really enjoy your videos.
@@meatheadmarksman2013 If you are looking for a backstop of some kind; you could use seatbelts. A few layers of seatbelt wil stop most airgun pellets... Seatbelt-material is sometimes sold as sort of a tree-aligning-rope on a big roll for pretty cheap. Also, for my own backstop I'm saving up to buy a laptop-bag-insert from bulletproofeveryone.com It's just a rectangular pad that's bulletproof against small arms fire..
Very informative, love this channel an burps anol.you sir are the best thing since crocodile Dundee an Kylie an that Jason bloke..and yep you are the GRAVEY on my chips..
I've been at this for a couple of days, had to wait to get a new chrony in because what you say about the valve adjuster is correct. The moment you've got something consistent and you touch that valve adjuster up front the whole thing falls apart. Baffeling, thought it was the cheapskate chrony I had, but the new one confirms what the old one indicated. We must be missing something. Correct me if I'm wrong but the valve adjuster is the thing that helps to conserve air, so the whole turbulent air note in the beginning of the vidjego is out of the window when you turn it wide open, is it not? So tomorrow I'm going to redo it all and leave the valve wide open... Another thing that might differ, I have the MK2 with the power plenum from the factory so I have my reg on 120 and shooting ~880-900 footsies with wheel on max and 33.95gr .25
Turned out that my bottle gauge was reading about 25bar higher then what the pressure actually was. Highly recommend pumping up your gun to 250 bar and then tuning down to 175ish and fill again so you dont get too close to your reg pressure. I was actually "off the reg" when i did that, since replacing that bottle gauge (free under warranty) the valve adjuster has only made things better. Its a very useful part of the gun for tuning. You could also try swapping your reg pressure gauge with your bottle gauge and record what the pressyre difference is, just make sure you fill the bottle both tines and compare it to the filler gauge so its the same
The gauges are rebranded WIKAs. The ones on my new MKII only appear to be correct at 250bar (my reg gauge is within 5 bar at 100bar). I suspect there's variances due to the vanity FX dials, and maybe they just chose to be most precise at 250bar for safety reasons 🤔
Whatever they are they still suck lol, not a huge deal but. I'm getting a new one under warranty so hopefully I'll get one that's accurate enough before the warranty runs out. If not I'll switch to huma
I thoroughly enjoyed this video, so much so that Im now attempting to tune up my first edition impact in .25 cal. I have not done any modifications to this gun. My question is now that I realize the tune process is a balancing act between reg pressure and hammer spring compression, with valve adjustments being the last item, where is the starting point with the hammer spring adjustments?
The starting point is tunded from the factory for jsb pellets, king 25. So if you are tuning fir a heavier pellet or slug you'll need more reg pressure and more hammer spring, if you are tuning for something lighter then that it will be less
@@meatheadmarksman2013 thank you. My reg pressure was set at around 155 when the gun was new so I recently re-set it down to about 140. I was sending jsb 25 grains out the barrel around 970 pfs. Since I re set my reg pressure, I need a starting point for my hammer spring and valve spring. Those are the values that I did not know where to start from.

My Impact did as you said at 44:10 to 44:25 climbed down and up and this was only after 3 tins of pellets shot through it. Turns out the **** C3 ORing **** bushing on the hammer slide was crushed and torn. Talked to Ernest Rowe @ FX Airguns US and he told me to replace it with a new one that they are making out of Delrin (hard Plastic) instead of using rubber Oring. I did change it myself and the old one was in 2 or 3 pieces. It would cause the hammer to not always open the valve the same every time. This is an ongoing problem in the Impacts. I think they may be using a better material now in the new Impacts or using the Delrin flat one the I installed, so far all is good now. The parts manual is here: fxairguns.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/impact-190823.pdf Look at Section C #3 part is the oring that causes the problem.
Interesting! I'll keep that in mind, I actually had to send the gun back cos a seal or something in the back end failed and air was blasting out the back lol it did shot very well for a while after tuning though so I might not have had the same problem. Also my bottle pressure gauge was reading like 30bar too high which was giving me all sorts of confusing chrony results until I figured it out
I really enjoy watching this video. I've watched this several times as I can't digest all the information in one go. A question I have though is when I adjust my hammer spring preload with the little allen key, I don't seem to have a inconsistent shot string, it just seems to get lower and lower (the FPS). Is it ok to have the preload completely maxed (screwed) all the way in?
If it's consistent when it's maxed out then that's fine. What setting is your valve adjuster on? (The little one above the air tank and below the barrel) that should be wide open before you start tuning and when you find a good spot you wind it in until speed drops off
That’s good to know, I’ll leave my preload how it is. My valve adjuster is wide open. I am going to do some harmonic tuning with slugs when weather permits (50mph winds here in the UK).
Don't you need at least a tiny bit of 'play' in the highest setting? What i mean is, when uncocked, the cam should not be putting pressure on the spring , right ?

Love the Vids M8. How about some sub 12fpe tunes for us UK saps without a FAC? Id love to know if the factory FX tune can be improved on regarding accuracy and consistency by different balances of hammer pre-load and regulator pressure. You might even find a 12fpe tune is super quiet and plenty powerful enough for you cane toad hunts.
My quiet tune is about 30fpe. We dont have sub 12 here, basically for any airgun no matter the power level you need a proper gun licence anyway. I think it would be pretty tricky to get sub 12 out of a 25 or 30 with a power plenum haha
@@meatheadmarksman2013 you could go back to a standard plenum? Then do the "quiet rifle"? You are probably the best person on the interweb who is airgun Tuna. I'm an engineer and understand how it works. Your feeling it through is loads better than dry sticks.
Thanks for the great, concise vids, Meathead. I was wondering though... I have the Impact X- (also in .25 for the same reasons)- I do love the idea of shooting slugs out of it and have fitted the slug Liner A. Do you think it`s worth the trouble to swap out the Plenum to bring it up to MK II specs / will it really give that much more punch ?
That's a good question... I'm not really sure, my suggestion would be try it without mods first and see how it goes. You can always upgrade later. If you can get 900fps+ out of it with your chosen slug then I'd say you probably don't need upgrades. But if it's not fast enough to group nicely at long range then it's a green light for upgrades
Thanks for the video it will be very useful (hopefully soon) - I have a .22/700mm MKII on order for use as a slug-gun. Same (lousy) deal here in Canada - no moderators of functioning shrouds permitted but I figure that the .22 will be fairly quiet.
@@meatheadmarksman2013 So, if I understand correctly, you are using the hammer spring adjustment SCREW to (finely) set the tension to optimum and use the knob for coarse adjustments (I.E. low power for in-barn pesting). Question: Once you have the Impact fine tuned to a particular pellet does twiddling the hammer spring adjustment not throw the whole balance and accuracy out the window?
@@hankvana2149 basically I tune it so the max setting is at the most powerful and efficient setting for what I want to use it for and then the lower settings are slower and quieter. Because they are lower then the balance point they are still useful and stable, just slower and quieter
I registered the 3rd shot only. And the graph i got was so strange. Jumpy allover 59 shot were it started to drop to 887 fps. From 920 max. On .22 cal with 115 reg pressure.
send me a message on Facebook if you want, if you send me the numbers we might be able to make an educated decision on where to set the hammer spring and fine tune from there
Hello mr.meathead,I have the same mark.2 .25cal shooting33.95 pellets and I’m having a very hard time keeping it on a constant velocity I’ve shot several inch groups at 100yards at 912fps but I can’t keep it at that velocity get close to it and try tweaking the valve and it goes crazy any other info would be appreciated
How deep underwater were you? Your barometric pressure on your ballistic app was reporting 1013 inHG. Wow! Great video and food for thought. Please show camera closeup when you mention gaps for valve and spring because I failed mind reading 101.
Wouldn't be nice to have an underwater airgun lair... your hammer spring gap will almost certainly be different to everyone else's but if your shooting jsb king heavy mkii 25 cal try 145bar @15 To 18mm hsg
It’s 1013 mbar or hpa, which equates to 29.92 inhg. Both are the ISA(international standard atmosphere) if you balanced the entire world out at sea level and 15 degrees celcius. A go to amount if you don’t have a real time value. Even in aviation
Hi Man, i notice that after some time or some shots, the measurement with caliber of the hummer spring preload changes, became longer and so less power and velocity. For exampe i tune the gun and the size of the preload is 16.40...after some time and some shots i notice less velocity so i take the size and it became something like 16.80, 17.00...does it happen to you too? anyone experiment same issue?
Hey mate!! Nice Job.... from this angle sitting here in Illinois... very informative for someone who is debating about this whole tuning ART!! Your work is appreciated !! Crown or Impact for the next gun?
For your next gun or the next gun I tune? I'm not sure really if you mean for me haha, just whatever comes my way. Definatly gunna play with the impact for a while, make a few more crown videos and then sell the crown. I like the impact better, 700mm barrel is the bomb
So the AMP reg in the MKii is ok to adjust the pressure down without removing the bottle and degassing the gun first? Is it the older reg (whatever it was?) in the previous models that it could damage the reg if adjusted under pressure?
That's a good question, first off always always always do what it says to do in your user manual, that way you won't void your warranty. But it's my understanding that you can drop it something like a quarter turn, fire a shot, drop it another quarter turn, fire a shot etc etc. Even though I have a mkii It doesn't say that in my user manual... so if I have to drop my reg I'll be depressureing as per the instructions in the manual
@@shawnsponds I'm flattered that you thaught i had any credibility to begin with haha! if youd like to look into the different reg types just search "fx AMP regulator" and you'll be able to find the differences in the diffrrent generations of fx regulators. My advice remains the same though, just follow your user manual and you will have no trouble
Nope, they come to us either with no shroud at all (skinny inner barrel only) or as pictured in this video with the barrel support which looks like a shroud but has no effect on sound. Very loud
Hi, Got my Impact mkii .25 back after installing power plenum and Huma Air high flow dual transfer port with the accompanying pellet probe. Everything was set to 140 bar previously. Now the regulator is at 105 bar shooting King Heavy @ 270 m/s. I do not know if my gunsmith has adjusted hammer spring + valve control. And surprise! The gun uses 2.2 bar of air pr shot. I get 68 shots with a bottle fill @ 260 bar (original manometer.) Any idea of what is going on? I can hear it fill the power plenum after each shot. (Edited: I was expecting 130 shots pr fill 😄)
hearing it fill is normal but that does seem a little bit heavy on the air, I would check the gauges against your fill source gauge to make sure they are reading correctly. also measure the gap between the front of the hammer spring screw housing block and the front of the little track that it runs in and let me know what that measurement is. should be like 18mm or somewhere near it
@@meatheadmarksman2013 My reading glasses say 16.3 mm. I adjusted the hammer spring when I was shooting today, I loosened it so I guess it was around 17. I adjusted until the speed dropped to 260 m/s then i tightened it a bit again. And the valve knob is 10.4 mm.
@@meatheadmarksman2013 Check the gauge, right. My hand pump gauge says... (lol) Sorry, I don't have a tank yet, maybe on Monday if I can find one. My pump also broke down. And the gunsmith managed to invert the filling sequence so that it fills when the handles goes up as if it wasn't tough enough to fill it before.
@@Bogi708 yeah thats rough I did not enjoy hand pumping up my crow when I had it haha it sounds like its about where it should be, 16 to 18mm is what they usually set them to at the factory. your valve nob is basically wide open at +10mm but, closing that down a bit will up the shot count but it will also drop the velocity. the thing about those king heavies is they use quite alot of air no matter which way you cut it. the jump from the 25gr king to the 34gr heavies is like 30% or there abouts, if you are hand pumping you might be better off with the 25gr pellet just cos youll get way more shots and have to hand pump less
@@meatheadmarksman2013 A tank is definitely a must have :) What is your shot count with the king heavies? With the previous set up (no power plenum) @140 bar regulator pressure I shot two magazines and the pressure dropped to around 170 bar from 250 bar and I shot them at 265 m/s and that equals 1.1 bar pr shot. And the hammer spring has been at max in both set ups.
Hello MeatheadMarksmen from England (Where it’s a bit shit!) Brilliant thank you! I just followed your method to the letter on my just purchased, 8 month old .25 Impact (700 mm barrel), and I’ve got 910fps with 25.4gn FX pellets, with an extreme spread of 10fps (I did see 5fps but can’t find it again). That valve restrictor is veeeeerrrrrrry sensitive, eh? For the interest of your good self and others, there’s a recently discovered little story to share.........so I’ll begin. Once upon a time, far far away in a place called England, where people fuck things up, hide the fuck up, then pass the problem to someone else, usually in return for money. A man bought an eight month old FX Impact 700mm ‘sniper’, cos it’s what he wanted sooooo badly. The man got his new rifle home and set off on his voyage of discovery. Impatient to remove the barrel and make sure it was spotlessly clean, he set about the task. TWO days later, it was mission accomplished!!! Two days of puzzlement, confusion, sweating and swearing. You see, what the man didn’t know, was that some twat, before the man owned the gun, had loctited the shroud to its fittings at BOTH ends!!!!! The man started believing that he now owned a version of the Impact that DIDN’T have the option of changing barrel liners. Until, with the shroud finally removed, the man could see, through the barrel end fitting, a tantalising glimpse of the flat sided barrel liner retaining thingy! Alas though, all was to no avail as the barrel liner retaining thingy is also glued, very very glued, in place!!!!! Resigned to never being able to try a slug liner, the man thoroughly cleaned everything, reassembled it all being meticulously careful, and set about getting the rifle set up for maximum efficiency. And here are the mans settings:- REG pressure 120bar (ish) HST gap 17.35mm VALVE restrictor - just touching the fourth mark. All the best Aussie compatriot and thank you for the excellent tuning video. I’d have fucked this royally without you, then hidden it, passed it on to someone else, and yes.....in return for money!
What a gigantic pita! Couldn't fathom why someone would locktite up and seal off all the parts of the gun that actually make it worth buying lol that suuuucks! If you get brave and wanna pull it apart a penetrating lube like wd40 and heat from something like a hair dryer or a very gentle heat gun might help get that stuff loose enough to remove. You'd wanna have a tap an die set on hand to clean out all the threads and bolts too. But hey is it's shooting >10fps extreme spreads and doing what you want it too then maybe leaving it alone is a good idea
Meathead Marksman Sorted! Finally had the barrel liner out and recreated easy access to all the fittings. I’m completely baffled why anyone would feel the need to do what had been done though.
@@pestandwildlifecontractser5589 huzzah! All is right in the world once more! It seriously makes me glad to hear that, Hopefully no more stupid surprises from here on in
@@syedmuftymehemud9981 sorry mate I did reply but it looks like it didn't post properly. Id say take it back and show the people you bought it off and see if they can fix it if possible, if not what is the actual problem? is the action not closing when you have a loaded magazine in the gun?
Thanks for watching mate! Standard kings I normally use the factory settings which is 125 to 130bar which will get you over 900fps

In my impact x .25 my reg is 110bar Bumper on 3 line And iam doing 880 ish with kings ,like to push it a bit more. I know my reg setting is low Is 920 to high for the Kings? Thanks once again Great channel
@ 920 seems fine, it's a good spot to aim for. Usually from the factory they come at 910 to 930ish, I wouldn't go any faster then 930 just to avoid stability issues bit 910 to 930 is pretty quick and doesn't use much air per shot

Great, i aim for 920 and see what grouping i get. Thanks
Great video as usual. I’ve got only a couple of questions: what did you do with the Valve Adjusting when you’d realized it cranked the Muzzle Velocity down to 750? (minute 45 on the video) I mean, you set your regulator pressure up to 139bar and start all over again but, did you leave the valve adjuster alone or did you open it all the way out? Just keep up with the good work. Cheers all the way from Spain!
I opened it all the way out again. My reg pressure gage was showing that it had settled a little bit lower then where is left it so I cranked it up a little bit again aswel
I havnt done a 22 yet mate but have a look at the factory setting chart and if your shooting a heavier pellet then standard start with 5-10 bar more reg pressure, use a little less if your shooting a lighter then standard pellet
@@meatheadmarksman2013 ok, thank you for your reply, Im shooting 18.1gr jsb. The gauges are not at all accurate ive heard so my reg is sitting at (what looks like) around 145 bar. And with a hammer spring gap at like 15mm. Valve stop at like 3.5line.
@@jamestaylor7782 is the shot string consistent with a nice low extreme spread? 870 is not bad, should be stable and quick enough to get the job done. I'd imagine you'd get close to 900 if you cranked up the reg and tuned it but with the short barrel I'd say that would probably be as much as you could get so if your happy with 870 I'd just leave it where it is
@@meatheadmarksman2013 thank you again pal, much appreciated. Il double check the shot string as my ES isnt as good as yours last time i checked, however i have power wheel set to level 4 (15mm gap).

Hello from the states mr.marksmen,at 42.28min.when the valve messed up your velocity why didn’t you go back to your original setting on the valve stop, your velocity was exactly what mine was 910-917 and thought I would tweak the valve and it dropped off just like yours interesting,on a side note did you ever find out why it does that, thanks for your videos cheers.
@@kellyjones4549 I think I misread that situation, that was before I realised my bottle pressure gauge was reading high so I thaught I still had a good 20bar of air left but because the gauge was out I was actually falling below the set regulator pressure. Sometimes the reg takes a little to settle in so I thaught that was what was happening in the moment but now I'm 99% sure I was just off the reg. I might make a follow up up video and explain it all. I'm gunna start advising that people tune their guns with 25bar to 50bar more then reg pressure in the bottle if they are experiencing trouble like that with tuning fx guns
Thank you for your reply. Coz when i bought may fx and read the manual it says dont fire the gun below the minimum pres. setting but then i cant see in the manual what is the minimum pres. setting. Is it true if you continuily firing the gun below that minimum setting it will somehow damage the gun.
ive seen other impacts shoot 25 cal 34gr jsb over 1000fps which is about 80ft-lbs, I dont need that much cos i have other guns that can do that, so id rather keep this one around 900 and get more shots per fill

So, having unglued the barrel and given everything a forensic clean. I reassembled, carefully sorted washed and lightly lubed some pellets. These are the results over a 64 shot string (4 magazines):-
909.2 FPS average.
That must be with the 25 grain pellet. 909 fps is around 46 FPE
Send pictures to me on instagram im @unclehodge. Good to hear it's grouping nicely!
That was a very clear and detailed description of what happens inside your gun

@@meatheadmarksman2013 Well it was very good to watch and for my little brain to understand with pictures. Nice one... Respect from Tynemouth, UK.

your welcome sir, thanks for watching
In my adventure it took approximately 135 shots into the bag to speed tune it and get the following final settings:
• Final Valve Stop was at .40 inches
• Mean speed was an 916.23 FPS the last ten shots
• The Standard Deviation was 2.16 fps
• The Extremes were 6.10 spread (low = 913.9 and high = 919)
BTW I heard you say something about clay or sand dust... try some rubber mulch. At least rubber mulch around the sand. :)
The regulator pressure was set at 138-ish (right side of needle on the 140 gauge mark).
It took 6 shots to get the scope near zero, where I started shooting groups.
5-Shot Groups at 30 Yards. 91 F°/56% Humidity, Winds swirling at 10 MPH - Aug. 4, 2019.
Group 1 0.280” (7.112 mm)
Group 2 0.200” ( 5.080 mm)
Group 3 0.200” (5.080 mm)
I was going to reset the turrets, but I think I will wait on the slug barrel (still on back-order).

Thank you.
Very good teaching technique: Tell us what you're going to tell us, tell us it, then tell us what you've told us. I learned.
There WILL be a test lol

Thank you Meathead for the info, you done a perfect job of showing how to perfectly tune an Impact AG. ( :
I did my .30 cal 700 mm barrel like this.
It did come from factory set at 140 bar and 850 FPS with 50 grain JSB's,
I wanted to be closer 890 FPS with 50 grain pellets and about 910 FPS with 44 grain pellets, so below is what I did.
Link to PDF showing my shot strings and 100 yard groups.
williamnapier.com/dl/airgun/fxshotstrings.pdf
1. Moved Reg to 150 bar. Which is MAX on the Impact X Also most documentation suggest 150 bar for the .30 cal.
2. Set Hammer Spring adjuster at MAX and fine adjusted allen screw as Meathead showed. " ua-cam.com/video/K5vcg9IFbKs/v-deo.html"
3. Valve Stop ((the knob in front at where the bottle screws on)) at MAX or approx the 4th line on the knob.
4. Check FPS over Chronograph,

@@wmnapier I think the 22 is a great option too, possibly better if you plan to shoot high bc slugs but I'm a fan of 25 over the 22 for big pellets
Nice.
Cool data. What was your shot count when you noticed your fps started to drop?
The best pellet catch I've ever used is a 10x10x12 box filled with chopped up (mulched) tires. Read an article that said it would stop a .223 @ 3600fps at 50yds.
Wowee that a hot loaded 223! Haha sounds like a good dust free media to catch stuff with but

Shooters delight I see on the box...I live about 10 mins from that shop...that’s where I got my impact....I haven’t done any tuning with mine as yet though...but hard when the range at Belmont has a “load and fire single rounds only rule” lol
Very silly rule... single shot loader from CARM will make your life much easier! Very affordable too
Set up complete!
@@meatheadmarksman2013 Haha that explains the welding helmet!.
Great video. If you get a chance try the original JSB 33.95. My Impact .25 700mm is more accurate with them at higher FPS. Mine is around 875 FPS. I never tried shooting as fast as you are. Maybe I’ll try it. Again I really enjoy your videos.

Another thing that might differ, I have the MK2 with the power plenum from the factory so I have my reg on 120 and shooting ~880-900 footsies with wheel on max and 33.95gr
.25
Turned out that my bottle gauge was reading about 25bar higher then what the pressure actually was. Highly recommend pumping up your gun to 250 bar and then tuning down to 175ish and fill again so you dont get too close to your reg pressure. I was actually "off the reg" when i did that, since replacing that bottle gauge (free under warranty) the valve adjuster has only made things better. Its a very useful part of the gun for tuning. You could also try swapping your reg pressure gauge with your bottle gauge and record what the pressyre difference is, just make sure you fill the bottle both tines and compare it to the filler gauge so its the same
Great video tutorial. Thanks for this!
No worries mate thanks for watching

Also my bottle pressure gauge was reading like 30bar too high which was giving me all sorts of confusing chrony results until I figured it out
Ever since seeing this vid, every time someone says “dataset”, i hear “BRAAAAAP”.
Congratulations!. Great job!.
Thanks for watching mate!
Thank you for ur video. That's so helpful!!!
No worries mate thanks for watching

Came across yr vid....thx a lot.....good one mate!
Fantastik best deskribed presentation
Thanks for the video it will be very useful (hopefully soon) - I have a .22/700mm MKII on order for use as a slug-gun. Same (lousy) deal here in Canada - no moderators of functioning shrouds permitted but I figure that the .22 will be fairly quiet.
I use the hammer spring wheel like a volume knob, mine is very quiet on minimum power

Hello MeatheadMarksmen from England (Where it’s a bit shit!)
Brilliant thank you!
And here are the mans settings:-
REG pressure 120bar (ish)
HST gap 17.35mm
VALVE restrictor - just touching the fourth mark.

There's a link in the description of this video that you can use to direct message me on UA-cam's chat, or there's Facebook and Instagram, message me on whatever you prefer and you'll be able to send me pictures of your graph/chrony results and hopefully with that info we can figure out what the deal is
Okay thanks
Aussie lab coat 😂
The uniform of all great men haha
Very very good ,,,,,,,, very very good
What is the minimum air pressure req to regulator? Thanks
I cant 100% remember but the manual I think says about 50bar
Thank you for your reply. Coz when i bought may fx and read the manual it says dont fire the gun below the minimum pres. setting but then i cant see in the manual what is the minimum pres. setting. Is it true if you continuily firing the gun below that minimum setting it will somehow damage the gun.
And additional question how to remove pressure on the regulator after removing the air tank?
long winded but nice results in the end, nice shooting.
Is it a superior liner has this vesion of fx impact?
top teaching
So you don't have curiosity to know the maximum fpe you can get from your gun??
I think it will be interesting to know
ive seen other impacts shoot 25 cal 34gr jsb over 1000fps which is about 80ft-lbs, I dont need that much cos i have other guns that can do that, so id rather keep this one around 900 and get more shots per fill
@@meatheadmarksman2013 for me I tune my kalibrgun cricket to 62fpe and now I am witing for my 700mm slug barrel to push my .25 mk2 to the limit
@@fathifathi490 Sounds potent! thats right around what im shooting at the moment, i think 34gr at 917 averave mv is 63 ft lbs. I like the cricket but it seems like they dont sell them in australia :(
what is the price of the fx impact
