This was my first GBA game and introduction to the Castlevania series. Slogging through the Eternal Corridor and frantically climbing the Chapel Tower with cursed dolls & bloodthirsty swords in pursuit is forever etched upon my memory, and made all the more epic with "Fate to Despair" playing throughout.
Me too. I wish this was considered more canon. The hold to spin whip is so satisfying, but they don’t have this in other games
As a huge castlevaina fan I'm really liking these recaps
This channel is a hidden gem
Getting the holy unicorn and the dark dog cards .... hellish.
Bro you gotta do a RECAPitation of Star Ocean: Til the end of time
I love this narrative, walkthrough style of video! Very unique and enjoyable!
Finally. I've been waiting for this video of this Castlevania game. Great work as usual.
Though I kind of wished that Morris and Julius had games that showed off what happened on their adventures
This was my first Castlevania game and thoroughly enjoyed it, even the card grinding (was just a kid at the time so I wouldn't know how bad it was haha)... A bit said once I learned that it wasn't part of the main timeline. Wanted to know more about Nathan and the Baldwins.
Technically, it's a canon side story as Igarashi added it back into the main timeline alongside the N64 games.
The only non-canon Castlevania game is Legends on the Gameboy as it contradicts the events of Castlevania 3.
This story was too OP for continuity
Honestly, I love this game. It was my first GBA game and my first Castlevania. I think it was removed from the timeline mainly because fitting another two Dracula battles into the timeline shortly after Rondo and SOTN would be rather crowded and obviously neither Rondo or SOTN are getting decanonised.
This was the hardest Castlevania for me to beat when I was a boy, but I'll not forget the feeling of triumph as I defeated Dracula for the first time. I should see how much more capable I am now. Great RECAPitation as always. I'll rendezvous with you on the next battlefield, fellow hunter.
"Dismissed just as quickly." - Men In Black, Zed
Im sad throwing a giant bone at dracula is noncannon
This game was so dark back in the day. Thank goodness for GBA IPS screen mods! lol!
This was also the first Castlevania I played and made me fall in love with the series. I did go back to play the earlier ones, but to be honest, the so-called "Metroidvania" style of game is the one I like the most. Man... I haven't played through these games in years so my memory might be a bit faulty but I don't quite recall any of the handheld Castlevanias as being outright bad or even mediocre. They were all pretty damn enjoyable which, looking back, feels like big feat to accomplish.
That GBA era of Castlevania games holds a special place in my heart. Broadly speaking, that particular handheld holds a special place in my heart cause I played through so many good games but Circle of the Moon, for example, was amongst the first I played on GBA (first one must've been Golden Sun, hell of an RPG). Thank you for these videos. They really bring out some good memories :D
Honestly I'd love to see Konami make a comeback. If they did then Castlevania and Bloodstained could have the ultimate rivalry that could be even more popular than Metroid vs Castlevania.
The Last Remnant would be a good recapitation if you havent done it yet.
Was I the only one who thought the “select start button” noise was a moan?
The game plays different with the DSS glitch.
Literally just 100%ed this game in the steam... I did not play around with the cards... I did not know you could freeze the brain creatures to get up there. I legit used the jump boots and launched myself up
I also beat dracula without beating the battle arena, death or the dragons, yes the sewers were aids while poison was in there. . .
The game was okay but it was hard in some parts because of the drop rates for healing items along with cards.
I kinda miss the desperation of trying to return to or find a save room before dying, haha. Having a stock of potions I could go back and buy whenever I wanted made the later games a bit too easy. The higher drop rate for souls in Aria & Dawn of Sorrow compared to the cards in Circle was definitely a good thing, though.
I agree... shops selling on-demand healing made all of those games like Symphony/Aria/Dawn/etc way too easy and lowered the stakes. To me, just removing recovery items and relying on skill, luck, and finding hidden recovery items in between bosses and save rooms is much more proper Castlevania. C64 punishing you for using the shop too often was a nice touch too. For this game though, no shop is an absolute improvement though I also agree RNG in this game could be rough and the knockback is brutal.
Wether the game is canon or not doesn't impact whether it's good or not, which it is good. It's just unfortunate that the game was made during a time when castlvania games weren't super strict on continuity and when they did buckle down and assert things like the Belmonts being the true heirs of the whips powers and Dracula reviving in 100 year cycles with flexibility given to random cults who perform rituals to make him revive sooner, this game just got the chop from the timeline
Just got a Gameboy Advance from a retro shop. Looks like I'll be tracking this baby down.
Man Castlevania Circle of the Moon was my first GBA game and my first Castlevania. I loved the rpg elements and collected all the cards. that grind was crazy but I loved figuring out what every combo did and tried to use every combo at least once. Even the terrible elemental damage reduction ones. Really liked that some combinations could change the whip into another type of weapon. overall I think this Castlevania is probably one of the best starting games in the series for a newcomer. Much like FF9, it shows a newer player what the series is all about in a very entertaining way, wrapped with an interesting package and a fairly easy ride all things considered.
I think, like everyone else, FUCK KONAMI, there is no way this isn't cannon. The Belmonts aren't the only ones who fought Dracula.
I liked the tarot magic system but strongly disliked that you needed essentially a guide to find the cards.
Or you could use the glitch.
posted 47 seconds ago? damn im late.
Cope and seethe, Hugh. YWNBAW.
Lots of alliteration this video. 🤓
The first non cannon entry If I remember correctly.
Non-canon would be Legends...CotM is alternate canon, part of a separate timeline
@@OniBlackMage thanks. The timeline gets confusing around this game.
