She completely transformed herself from the previous year. She was amazing here. It was a shame the loss of her coach and her mother in a few short years or things could have been different. She did us proud. Great job Angela!
Yes, her coach transformed her skating completely in one year and she went from being a kind of pleasant, languid skater, to one the most perfect and beautiful skaters of all time. It was my wish that she had been on the Olympic team at Salt Lake, but with Michelle, Sasha and Sarah vying the competition was extraordinary that year and at Nationals in 2002 her nerves go the better of her in the long program. Her posture, the deep edges, the clean stroking the elegant lines of her skating the beautifully held hands and quiet arms and that layback! In such beautiful position at all times. Nothing like that in skating today.
This was the best SP that I've ever seen her do. She truly transformed herself that year & skated with an understated elegance. The choreography matched the music beautifully. Go Angela!
Angela was in 3rd after this short program in 2001 worlds, she was behind Irina Slutskaya and Michelle Kwan. Angela has a beauty and grace about her skating, that is very lacking in todays female skaters. She can be seen from time to time skating in pro- skating shows, she is mesmerizing to watch in person.
For me, Angela and Sasha were 2 skaters that had perfect skating techniques and positions. Angela's jumping technique was flawless, her layback was the best in the world, and her flow across the ice was amazing. Sasha...well, could she ever hit a bad position? And both had great artistry.
twilliger123 if I wanted your opinion, I'd ask for it..just saying. I never said sasha had the best consistency, however no one could touch her positions.
I always loved the way Angela skated. I'm sorry for her that she's always been ranked lower. She could have really gone far if she wasn't injured all the time I think. She's got the artistry down but she just wasn't as consistent because she couldn't practice when she's injured.
she was such a beautiful skater, it's a shame she was only a factor for that one year - and but for her fall on the triple sow in the LP she would have beaten Sarah for the bronze
Really great performance. SO glad that the judges placed her ahead of Hughes. Though her 3rd place in the SP was fair, I can see an argument for perhaps 2nd even. The fluidity and smoothness on the ice was rare. Plus her details really made this a "artisitically" difficult program. Look at the arm movements in the Footwork Section for example!

Her layback spin was a thing of beauty...

STUNNING .. I miss her !!!
What a beautiful performance. She should have been 1st after the free skate. She moves across the ice like no other skater.

This was such a special skate to see in person.
Beautiful skater.
Flawless skating even if she did have some difficulties with the extension glide... but it is beautiful.

She also doubled her second triple lutz which was another serious mistake

That was very nice! Do You have Laetitia Hubert and Vanessa Gusmeroli SP from that Worlds!
