Thank you for this video! I was able to fix my wipers this afternoon using replacement bushings. *So* much money saved and bragging rights earned for this lady. 🔧👍
+Shari M You go girl! Lol thanks for watching
Glad to hear that you were able to do the bushing repair yourself. I'm having some male doubt being thrown my way but I am going to try it cause we're broke n I gotta try! Thanks for posting your success!!
Where did you get the replacement bushings?
Just a note.... after installing the used/new wiper transmission/motor, make sure you turn the wipers on and then back off BEFORE you install the wiper arms. This will park the wiper transmission in the spot needed to correctly install each arm.
I saw your comment after I was done replacing the motor. Fortunately I thought about it while I was doing the job. That's great advice!
@@X0verXDriveX Could this be why my blades stop in the upright position?
@@jdashie They don't move at all anymore? Or are they stuck in that position after completing a wiping cycle?
@@X0verXDriveX they move..but they stop in the upright postition.
@@jdashie I don't think that's the problem. I have a problem similar to yours on my chevy impala. My wipers do their cycle but they go 5 or 6 inches lower than they used to. I had to remove the whole wiper transmission to remove my wiper motor engine. I played a little with the wiper transmission, I think I changed the wiper transmission's initial position. I will have to remove all the plastic that covers the wiper transmission, remove the nut that connects the wiper engine to the wiper transmission, reset the wiper transmission and then put the nut back on to reconnect the transmission to the motor. Does this answer help you?
Bless you for thos video. Exactly the problem I had. I diagnosed it exactly as you showed: 1) Check wiper switch - no wiper action. 2) Check washer spray - yes it works. 3) Check for wiper motor action - yes I heard it running by listening close to wipers from under the hood (engine off to hear it better) - yes wiper motor runs.
And your instructions for disassembly and reassembly were spot on including the 15mm and 10mm socket sizes .
Thank you so much!
Glad I was able to help. Thanks for watching!
Dude thank you for the video, but especially for explaining the diagnosis with hearing the motor but no action. Other videos skipped diagnosis and got right to repair which was rather unhelpful
I've done all this job on my chevy impala a few minutes ago. I needed a new motor. I bought one at a scrap yard for 57$. I didn't have to pay for manual labor. Thanks!
Wow man, my local scrap yard is like 10 bucks maybe 20
@@jimsinnovations2737 You're in america?
@@X0verXDriveX ya
@@jimsinnovations2737 I'm in Canada. They sell these motor new at around 300$.
@@X0verXDriveX thanks but i wont be buying one them, i can repair mine or find one in junk yard thanks tho
Just wanted to thank you for this video! This was the exact problem! I looked at some of the other comments and saw some people just replaced the bushing and that's what I did. Only 8.99 at my local Auto Zone. The labor wasn't much at all. Getting the bushing on was the most difficult part but I was done in less than an hour. Thanks again for saving me so much money!
What are the bushings called
I must thank you so much. Your tutorial showed step by step how to fix this. You saved me about $200. It's funny to see peoples reaction when they see a chick fixing her own car, never gets old lol. I learned alot from my father, but unfortunately he is no longer here to help RIP. So UA-cam is my go to.
+Stacey Ramack I hope I can be your "go-to" guy for repair tutorials 😁👍. Thanks for watching Stacey! #moneysaved
Yay! One time I breast fed my daughter while re-wiring a headlight switch in the parking lot of O'Reilly's. Let's see a guy multi-task at that level. :) I love doing it myself. Videos like this guy's make it possible.
Thank you soo much, your video was very step by step detail oriented! For us amateur car mechanics, we thank you for breaking it down in easy to understand steps! 👍👍👍
i was having the same issue, went to amazon and purchased the wiper transmission, i kept the original motor, and change it successfully thanks to this video.
To anyone reading this.... Check that the wiper arm hasn't stripped the knurling on the post or the wiper blade BEFORE removing the Wiper transmission or the wiper motor... I spent the 3 hours replacing a wiper transmission when it was just a wiper arm that had stripped... Save your self some grief and check the arm first....................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ lentmain ?..gotcha
Just wanted to thank you for this video. You helped me, who is absolutely not a car guy, be able to take this apart and replace this piece.
Thanks! Your video enabled me to get the wiper transmission replaced more quickly than I could have had it done in a shop, plus saving me a lot of money. Could not have done it without you!
Glad I can help! Thanks for watching
Bro, I can't thank you ENOUGH for this video. Proof that superheroes don't always wear capes. The dealer wanted to charge me $260 to do this (diagnosis, parts, and labor). I found a linkage online for $26 and did the labor myself. Couldn't have did it without your help, homie!
If I can offer one suggestion, it would be to show how to install the motor onto the new linkage. I didn't know that I needed to apply pressure to connect the grommet to the ball joint thingie (or whatever that thing is called) on the motor. It took me a couple of times disassembling and re-assembling the whole thing to figure out why the linkage arm wasn't connecting to the motor. But then I finally figured it out. I wound up using a pair of pliers to connect the two. And presto!
Seriously though man, thanks a TON for this.
Thanks for sharing ,you were kind of all over the place with the camera but it all came in to focus once the cowl was remove but it was all good ,you tube beats the hell out of the old Chilton manual thanks again👍
Thank you for this video. I was able to get access to my motor and linkage assembly using this video and me and my son found out it was a bad bushing. We were able to find the bushing locally at O'Reilly's Auto Parts for $10 so it was a cheap fix. Without this video I would have had to take it into a repair shop.
You, good sir, are amazing. Thank you. My wife's issue is the exact same as in this video. Took it apart with ease thanks to you. I'll be picking up the part tomorrow and replacing it. Saved me some money! Thank you!
Never had a video point out a problem so well. Fixed it right after work. Great video and great diagnosis.
This video showed me perfectly how to replace my wiper transmission. Saved us over $200. Thank you Thank you.
thanks for your help you helped me fix my 2012 impala a little different set up but the same thing you saved me money and time thanks again.
Yup, saved me 50% of the cost (100% of the labor cost) so thank you very much. I pulled a frozen wiper dumb dumb move and Christmas is in a couple weeks. Great video!
Thank you! Cut straight to the issue, fixed in 5 minutes.
Thanks...fixed for $10.00 by using Dorman Part #49452(wiper bushings)....used a clamp and socket to install new bushing to the arm...had to do it twice because I didn't seat the bushing to the ball tight enough.....pulled it out again and stepped on the bushing to seat it properly on the ball....
live and learn.......
Thank you. My wifes wiper motor failed, and trans piece was close to fail, fixed!!!!!!!!!!!! thx!!!!
Thanks man, could not figure out how to get the wiper arms off my 2011 Silverado, worked like a charm!
Just replaced my wiper transmission using this video!!! Thanks for sharing. It was simple!
Very helpful
I had trouble with those little clips because they were digging into the plastic. But found it was way easier just to pull the whole big plastic piece forward a bit until they came off the car. Then i could easily pull them off of the plastic.
U da man! Thanks for watching bro!
thanks, saved me some money, the old one was under warranty, it was a quick swap
+Jamaal Watson No problem bro! Thanks for watching!
great job thankyou, I also fixed it with new bushings from Napa auto 15.00
thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise,i am not a Mechanic but you make it look so easy, thank you
I got the same car. Same issue. Tried to use my wipers while they were frozen. Heard a pop. Thanks bra.
Thanks for the tutorial! Easy repair, and you were right, the hardest part was getting the cowl back in place properly.
wow . that was a great video, u are an excellent teacher and confident.thank you
Thank you, very helpful. Loved the narration and clear visuals. Takes the quess-work right out of the way!
Hey guys I'm not a mechanic by any means, but I had this same thing happen and I can offer a solution that has worked for me so far. I drilled a hole right through the middle of the ball joint, then i put a pin through it. The pin was loose enough to allow movement in the joint. But tight enough to not allow the joint to come apart. Then greased it up good. Will get you out of a jam until you can replace the assembly. Good luck.
Be careful with the pin because there is not much clearance on the back side. I'm sure a nail will work if you put it through and bend it over.
I appreciate the video - made my experience of replacing the wiper transmission very easy. Thank you!
Good video. Explained all those little details that can easily trip you up
Thanks dude this learned me a lot, I don't think I have to change my whole motor and transmission just yet but I have to fix my passenger side wiper cause it ain't working.
Awesome video. Thanks for all the details. A lot of guys just say “This is some kinda screw here! Figure out what size yourself!” Appreciate it. Keep it up!
Thank u so much bro u save me money bro I did it all by my self but I just replaced the transmission it was easy got it new so it was worth it u made it easy bro !! Thank you
Jose Lorenzo Glad u were able to manage! Thanks for watching!
yo I appreciate this video homie, saved me some money and made me feel badass fixing my own car! respect my brother!
ur a life saver bro. thanx 4 the video. i didn't even bother taking my car to anybody after watching this. Much Appreciated!!!
Appreciate the video just fixed mine and saved a few dollars by watching your video. Thank you!!!
Thanks for the video brotha I was able to just replace the plastic bushing for $8
nice video.....was a big help....mine was not broken though just snapped cross arm back in socket
Great Video! Super easy to install compared to the $450.00 + stealership price!
Thanks I looked at your video twice went to my car and did the job. I dropped a tool and still haven't found it. Hope it doesn't cause trouble.
How bout a 2011 is it da same
Thanks you saved me like 600 dollars and if you line everything up just like in the video as you do it then it comes out just right. My motor is a bit slow so I’ll have to replace that soon but it’s easy now that I know how!
Thank you for this video the exact same thing just happened to my 2012 Malibu.
Thanks for the instruction, easy to follow!!
Youre saving me $300+ dollars and i wish i watched your video on changing my headlight instead of the emo native american guy.
The shop is saying they dont purchase just the transmission and it needs to be sold with motor after they told me the motor is still good and itll be $340. Im going to use your video to replace it myself and save almost $300. I really appreciate it
Just a Heads up to anybody who gets a wiper transmission WITHOUT the motor. When you connect the arm of the transmission to the motor, MAKE SURE that you connect it at the same angle that is was at when you took the bad transmission off. I wasn't thinking about it when I did mine and my wipers ended up trying to wipe down and then back up due to the starting position of the motor be in the wrong spot.
Awesome video by the way! ended probably saving me $300 or so!
I think mines do that, it will slap down and go up what should I do??
@@anthonyjohnson7866 If you want to fix it, you'll need to take the wiper motor out and move it to the correct starting position. I don't have the car anymore but if you look at 9:18 of this video, you want your motor assembly to look like his (or at least close) the reason why it's wiping down first is because the resting position of your motor is not right.
Just curious, is there a reason you didn’t just replace the bushings on this?
Mine is weird rite. It didn't work I sprayed the wiper bolts down with pblaster and they work again, but have to do that every so often. Any ideas what it could be.
Thanks man I had to do this today and I watch this first so I new what was to come great info and feed back man
Hey
Thank you for posting this…
It worked great your instructions were perfect
Thank you again

👍👍👍
I bought replacement bushings for the transmission arm but I don’t know how to get the old bad one off s I can put a new one on. Any suggestions!
I’ve been thinking of doing this but what stops me is my wipers work it’s just they don’t go down all the way
They will if I just flick flack it but for the future I know how to fix it thanks man
This video saved me money in 2021
Thanks for this video, about to go outside and do the bushings on mine
All was working according to plan until I tried to separate the wiper arm from the wiper transmission. Not sure how you were able to get that off without a wiper arm puller; you must be strong as h***! I'll continue once the puller arrives from Amazon. Looking forward to wrapping this job up.
+McKenzie Suber-Robinson You shouldn't need an arm puller for the wiper arm. Did you pay attention to how I took them off?
Little trick I learned, loosen the nut but do not take completely off. Grab a pair of Channel Locks and gently squeeze bottom of arm and top of nut. Works like a charm.
Great info, mine busted today. Thanks sincerely.
check your fuses before you purchase a new motor and transmission. 1 fuse is under the hood beside the battery and the other is inside the car on the passenger side of the center console. pull that plastic piece off to reveal it
I'm having this same issue you can hear it but the wipers won't move. Mechanic says $322 to fix. You just said close to 40 for used I think he's trying to get 1 up on me.
If u do a lot of Malibu pls post
Jose Lorenzo Will do?
The linkage keeps come off I have to put a new one on every week what am I doing wrong
Replace the whole transmission assembly
@@Leekautorepair --stepped on the arm to seat it properly on the ball....
tmac allday were you putting grease on
Man - thank you for this video - definitely didn’t wanna pay some jabroni $100 and up for a repair I could do myself. Good in you, brotha 👊🏽
This is what mines doing. I cleaned the ends of wipers with liquid wrench and it works, but not a fix just a temp patch til I can get in there seems like something prolly dirty or clogged.maybe
Just changed my assembly. Started the car and the wipers are trying to go down instead of up. Ever seen this? What's the fix?
+Dan Peyton most likely you have the wiper arms on incorrectly. Once you put the whole assembly in turn the car on and reset the wiper position to the down position which is completely down and then put the wipers on
Thanks for the reply. I solved the problem by taking the arms back off and running the wipers. I'm assuming that took them to the "home" position. When I put the arms back on, it was perfect. Thanks again!
ok cool! glad u made out ok
@@Leekautorepair Same problem still goes down first and when is off it’s in the middle of the windshield
Great Video! Thank you for the help. This explains everything.
should have greased the joints to the new/used one to avoid it happening again; good video tho! i have to do my cobalt thats what brought me here
surprised u not break the arms jerking them about that high vs lower to first joint. yea, they wanted 125 to fix mine and i had a new motor already. no way! not paying someone to learn or more that slow. i fix it... tks for share...
Your the man!! Thanks for the knowledge!!!
"No offense but it's pretty much common sense," if I had common sense, Leek, I would have watched that far in the video and made sure the wiper posts were in the resting position BEFORE reinstalling them.
Lol.
😂😂😂😂😂👍🏽
After changing my motor and verified the linkage is moving..i go 2 put my whiper arms back on and the whipers wont actuate? What the hell? Any suggestions
Thanks for the video man! Very helpful!
Thanks! This video and your instructions saved me some $$$. Cheers!
Thank you i just installed mines💪🏽💪🏽
+Karen Williams No problem. Glad you made out ok. Thanks for watching!
My wiper on my 05 grand am (driver side) wipes perfectly, it just doesnt reach the edge of my window. My wiper arms arch leave about a 45 degree angle until it would have it the edge. how do i fix that? and here and there the bolts that hold the wipers down come loose so i have to re tighten them on the road or whatever for them to work
I you have this issue with our 2015 Equinox, the 2013s were recalled. The NHTSA is looking
into this problem. This seems to be an issue with GM! If you have this issue, please file a complaint to
force GM to recall. @t I bought a new unit from Amazon for $70.
Exelente video my friend Gracias ! Thank you my brother 👍💪✌
I need you to work on my car,
You are good. Where is your car shop?

Thanx man appreciate the help. On point.
Thanks bro!
I did it because of this video!!!
where is your shop located?
Awesome video brother. Thanks. Saved me mucho money
What’s the name of the place you order the wiper transmission from?
Lkq
U can also try car-parts.com
Leekautorepair would you possibly have a link?
Leekautorepair oh whoops didn’t see that second comment
I'm just curious, how much can I save by doing it myself? 👀
You'll save yourself a lot average shop maintenance is about $170 an hour now
great video! saved me a lot of time and money! thanks!
Thanks a lot this really help
Anybody with an Equinox or Malibu that has this problem needs to file a complaint with the NTHSA. So far, only the 2013 Equinox has the recall with the exact same wiper transmission. Canada has a recall for all the Equinoxs with this problem. Not here in the United States. If enough people complain to the NTHSA about this problem, they will inform Chevy to recall all of these.
The Malibu does not use the same wiper transmission as the Equinox
Thanks man, appreciate it
I hope I can get the leakage bushing.
Thank you, man!
Thank you taking the time to film yourself doing this one handed !
very good
Good video. Saved me some money.
There is a ZERO position for the arm so be sure you mark the linkage where it connects to the motor -- OR -- simply ensure the small linkage arm to the motor aligns with the long linkage arm - not connecting an any angle -- that is ZERO -- before you install the unit.
