- The Celtics shocked everyone on Wednesday night when they got Lonnie Walker IV to agree to an Exhibit 10 contract ... essentially a training camp deal. Regardless, talent is talent. Brad was right to buy low and get him. Its a small chance but maybe he outplays PP and makes PP (+springer) expendable so the Cs can salary dump those 2 for picks to get under the 2nd apron while lonnie assumes PPs role.
The team basically just has too many guards and has 2 ballhandling wings. The reality is a team can only be 9-10 men deep max. Everyone else is an injury replacement, locker room/sit on the bench or developmental project guy. Ans for boston, that 9-10 men slots are kind of already set in stone. Even neemy is a garbage time/situational player. He just had a clearer path because Kp Is injured and Al is old.
Lonnie will get mins, dont get me wrong. But jt wont be regular rotation mins as part of the top 9-10. only way that happens is if PP falls off a cliff or they trade Pp.
This man average 10 points a game consistently with 39 % from 3 and 43% from the field. Nothing garbage about him when our bench needs consistency, and that's wat he brings, and he's still young at 25. With 6 years experience he's been on my radar since 2022 no bs I'm super excited lol

Walker scored 15 points in the fourth quarter for the Lakers, with Lebron setting picks and getting him the ball in a playoff game! He's a decent player, indeed.

9:14 excellent job per usual of appropriate framing of the situation. Range of legitimately reasonable outcomes is LW4 as an outside 6MOY candidate (i.e. plays really well and puts up numbers that have him in the convo partly due to team success) and cuts Js load with second lineup, or he's a depth piece/injury insurance that doesn't dislodged healthy PP and Hause Money from current backcourt rotation, or for some reason he doesn't have the impact off the bench he has demonstrated for several seasons and he's cut and Cs no worse for the wear. Unreal. What a time to be alive!

Love Brad Stevens. One of the top 5 GM's in the NBA and not hesitating to make great moves to sustain the Championship window and go for the repeat 🏆. Awesome insurance signing with playoff experience to protect our backcourt players from tough back to back games, injuries, and a long season.
Stevens won Executive of the Year last season, voted on by his peers. Celts win a championship in dominating fashion. My man thinks Brad is Top 5 😂😂😂

He will be a rotation player this year lets be honest walker is better than pritchard and svi. i don't think he will take hauser minutes hauser is 6'8 good defender and can shoot lights out. I think Pritchard minutes are in more trouble than anyone else since Celtics can play white or holiday as PG while having walkerand hauser with big al and jt or jb while still having good defense and shooting. And by the way i went to school with Lonnie lol same class and all he's a great dude great for team chemistry.

It’s a good signing cause it’s more competition in practice. Imagine he and Springer develop into a second unit version of Holiday and DWhite. Highly unlikely but they are good defensively and can play offense pretty well. Can’t see them taking Hauser and Pritchard minutes yet but man. Brad Stevens is pitching a no hitter.

They took the best player available! Unfortunately, like you said, he'll likely take up minutes from Prichard and Hauser. But, this gives Boston some cushion to POSSIBLY trade one of those two for a solid young center (as much as we'd hate to see them go!).

Somethings going wrong in the NBA. Some of these guys we're seeing in exhibit contracts need to exhibit nothing, they're clearly capable players.
In the new CBA Second Apron and minimum required payroll era, vet minimums with high quality vets like Lonnie Walker will be the new exploit in the system. Teams will pay for the max contract players, and they'll pay for guys to get up to the salary floor. But that'll leave quality guys looking for a free agency deal out of work, and available for cheap.

I think you glazed over Walker's defensive decline considering how the Celtics put a premium on D. His defensive rating was 17.0 and 16.8 over past 2 seasons.. the Celtics as a team had a 111 D rating.in 2024. Teams will exploit him! He won't be part of rotation unless there are injuries and his D improves. His defense IS WHY we got him cheap

Fair is improving roster if possible.
It’s no risk depth at the very least, if last post season proved anything we can use all the depth we can get, last post season it was the center position that was decimated by injuries, this year it could be the guards with Hauser and Pritchard banged up instead of KP and Kornet. I’m sure Hauser and Pritchard, especially Hauser with his new contract extension, will be fine with this.
This is an overrated signing. Lonnie is a 1-skill guy whose great skill (3-level scorer) is the one thing the Cs dont need. He wont get to handle the ball in the Cs offense as he'll be at least be behind 5 players in Cs playmaking depth chart (jt, jb, jrue, white, pp). The only thing he brings that translates is the good 3pt shooting. He doesnt rebound, pass well, set screens or play defense. The Cs need more of these skills from role players (along with high 3pt efficiency). They dont need another shot creator. Much moreso a guard which is their deepest position. They need 3ND wings.
Hes arguably this teams 12th man at best (assuming Joe prefers his offense to springer's defense). And when fully healthy, no team really plays more than 9-10 men a night in the regular season.
Cs rotation:
starters 1-5: jt, jb, kp, jrue, d.white
core bench 6-9: al, hauser, pp, tillman
regular rotation mins stop here.
situational bench 10-12: luke (with kp out to start the season), queta (for the time Al sits on the 2nd night of a B2B), lonnie/jaden (if they decide to give jrue the al treatment)
maine 13-18: jaden, anton, baylor, walsh, jd, drew
camp cuts 19-20: harper jr. Enaruna
The positive here is lonnie will push jaden and baylor in camp. Lonnie though wont get mins outside of garbage time/injuries. He's not overtaking PP.
So we brought Lonnie in for nothing he won’t play at all gee thanks
@@tylerriley2587 he will play. Hes just not the rotational player or 6th man people say he is. Hes going to play in garbage time, when someone has to be load managed (like jrue) or when theres a minor injury (which is bound to happen in the regular season).
This is just an embarassment of riches for boston for being this deep and a testament to how good Brad is. Theres good players like neemy and lonnie who wont play when everyone is healthy.
I’m getting a kick out of people losing their minds over this. How does Brad do this? Why didn’t he let players walk to sign buyout players mid season or for picks to not be moved to end of the first round 7 years from now?
