I was working at a department store perfume counter when Coco was released so I had quite ALOT of 80's perfume experiences! It was a fabulous time when department stores still treated customers with what is now only boutique style service. Ah, I miss those days. I still love Coco EDT. I was in my late teens when it was released and a lot of the elegant ladies wore it. Party girls were busy wearing Lou Lou, Obsession or Poison. If they were more reserved they wore Lauren. I never thought Coco came across as trashy. It was unique and expensive smelling in the 80's anyway. Certainly, things have changed and this is NOT an athletic wear fragrance for sure. I like to spray it on when I'm at home. It's my own luxury. It's interesting to hear a different generations thoughts on fragrances from a different decade.
Wow that's amazing! Thanks so much for sharing your experience and your thoughts. I've always wondered how others felt about the EDT when it was just released.
@@yvespiderssmells9956 I can assure this was not trashy in France in the 80s/90s :) French women/girls wear perfume every day. Seniors and college girls would wear it daily to go to class. I personally find the EDT packaging more iconic xx
I’m late to this review but your description was spot on. To me this is soft and clean in a warm dryer sheet way. I enjoy this under clothes so it warms up on my skin. I just get wafts all day.
I once had samples of the edp and edt and on me, edt was much better. I just didn't love it enough to want more. But i do like clove. Thanks for your review Yve.
I picture this fragrance as a cold weather one. Like I am wearing it today with leggings and an oversized soft sweater. I don't like the opening as much as when it drys down. For some.redaon it.makes me feel warm and cozy!
I personally don’t think the edp aged well....however I am very much interested in getting my nose on the edt. I actually base my outfit on my scent of the day, instead of the usual vice versa.
I love how you prioritize what you wear! The EDT does smell a little more modern to me than the EDP. I can't really explain why, but I agree with you about the EDP
Interesting on the notes you smell. I got this as a gift from my boyfriend. I hated it it smelled like an old lady but over time the fragrance grew on me. It smells more like ginger than clove on me. IT IS A MATURE FRAGRANCE. I wear it anywhere to be honest cuz it's a light warm fragrance
Coco EDT is absolutely one of my favourites & I just don’t relate to the trashy or noveau riche socialite vibe you get!! It smells wealthy, and special occasion. And btw, based on the many socialites I know, elegant or not, they all snort cocaine! 😉
Coco is BIG. And arguably a bit dated. I, however, adore her! In cold weather, especially around the holidays, it is delicious. I find it to be elegant and over the top simultaneously. I receive many compliments when i wear it. The edt is more wearable imo. Thanks for the thoughtful review!
COCO really sings in the colder months! It does give me autumn and winter vibes. Interestingly, i don't think I've gotten a compliment wearing it, but I have complimented others wearing it!
Interesting to hear your thoughts Yve, Chanel is an interesting house, I have a love/hate relationship with a lot of their fragrances. I’d like to smell this fragrance as well as some more of the Les exclusifs which can be found here in the UK sometimes even on offer, if you shop around! 😉💛
I feel the same way about their fragrances! It's so hard for me to find one that works well for me. But I do like Coco EDT for some reason. Thanks for watching, Gids!
Thank you for this review!! I just got this not too long ago, and it is my first grown grown Chanel. I’m still trying to get use to it. I can’t do the EDP. I do have Mademoiselle, and bought that in my early 20s, and I love it!! When I wore Coco EDT, it wore me!! 😂😂
I love your take on this. I've never tried it before but I think I get the gist of it after watching your video. I do think fragrances being opulent or not can sometimes (not always) depend on the individual wearing it. I know some folks who can pull off something I consider super fancy as an everyday fragrance. But I totally understand a fragrance demanding a style of outfit for sure bc I feel the same way. Great review!
Hi! Found u through fragrantica. You scented the mad men chars, which i thought was on point. You have talented nose. Would u say joan is more edp or edt?
I’ve got a similar fragrance: if I want to wear Sartorial by Penhaligon's I really have to wear a shirt (preferably a quirky one with a floral pattern). Otherwise I also think that it wears me.
I think there is a fine line for opulence in general. On the one side opulence can be truly regal and reflect optimism (e.g. Art Deco), but opulence can also easily become quite trashy, specially if attempting to hide actual decadence. Anything that can be described as opulent must then find itself somewhere within that gray area. I wonder Yve if you could elaborate more on that common expression, you wearing the fragrance vs. "the fragrance wearing you." I kind of get the point, but the metaphore is quite blurred and confusing to me in general. I mean, does it mean there is a mismatch? What kind of mismatch, and for whom? Not to attach genders to fragrances, but just as an example, if an old lady in the Summer wears a young man's winter fragrance, then would that fragrance be "wearing her" because of someone else's perceived mismatch? Or only if she feels herself in a mismatch?
Yes,i agree and i think opulence can go towards that direction of being a little trashy if it's done a certain way. To answer your question, i think that it's more of my perception rather than how others would perceive my fragrance and me. It could be a mismatch between the fragrance's personality and my personality (or how I'm feeling that day), but I see it more like a competition between the fragrance's level of confidence and my confidence. This probably makes no sense 😂 . What I'm trying to say is if a fragrance is loud (e.g., strong projection and uniqueness of the scent), i want to convince myself that I can tame it when I wear it. And for me, that means that I wear clothes that make me feel confident in myself and make me feel like I'm in charge.
Omg... your imagery of rich/elegant but a bit trashy. 100% agree and that's why I love it! And I feel the same way with regards to how I dress when I wear this. This is my "boss mode" perfume.
I was watching one of Angel Lately’s videos where she said the only time she finds it appropriate to wear the Coco edp is when she is going on a date with a much older man...they always appreciate these types of scent because it’s reminiscent on what’s familiar to them...
@@eScentialNotes hi Joshua, i think this is subjective, but as Ritziana had said, the Chance line tends to appeal to younger consumers (especially the Eau Fraîche and Eau Tendre flankers)
Yve you’ve painted a fantastic picture in your description of this fragrance. Especially of the 80’s socialite! Of course with my penchant for interesting and dirty fragrances, I really want to try this now! Lol
I have this in the EDP, and quite frankly, it's one of my least favorite fragrances in my collection. I wear Coco Noir EDP more. I am interested in trying Beige and Jersey. I do not like No.5, although I do enjoy No.5 L'eau, but they are very different. I think it's nice that you pair fragrances with the way your dressed. I just wear whatever I'm in the mood for. The only time I consider my fragrances is when I'm going to a church or temple, or funeral, or to the hospital (or a sushi bar-I don't want to offend someone, especially when they are eating), then I only wear very light 'clean' fragrances. Otherwise I go by mood. I've never smelled Coco EDT, so I can't really say what I think of it, but I doubt I would love it. Chanel can be a really tough house, and I don't like most vintage fragrances. The only older fragrance I've purchased lately is Mitsouko, and that's because someone I knew years ago wore it and I loved how it smelled on her - I have a hard time with it (in the opening), but I keep trying it hoping I will like it more eventually-LOL. Thanks for the video! Take care, Ginny😘😘😘
Spot on. This is no wallflower. Big shoulder pads, stirrup leggings, leg warmers, Madonna cross earrings, totally retro. Love the bottle more than the EDP. This is what Angelina Jolie embodied on the set of GIA.
Ya know??? I’m not mad at all. The edp is dated, very 80s, but good. When you gave the description, I could see everything lol (even the nose candy 🍬) great video
I last wore Coco Chanel in my 20s; I had the EDP and it just felt too grown for me. This one probably would have suited me better; trashy or not lol. You have very vivid descriptions. Lol. And I’m doing my Ghosts of Perfumes Past tag this week! 😊 Always late but still showing up! lol.
The sugar booger for the booger sugar! Great thoughts! I've never smelled it... But now i want to... Hey... The price is the major factor for me too! Lol great video.
Hahaha, when you said it reminded you of someone doing cocaine in the bathroom...I just thought if that song that goes "I'm in love with the coco" and then I was like ahh maybe that's why it's just called coco🤔?? Anyway, good review hon also you earned yourself a subscriber today 😁. Take care and God bless.
Haha! Great review. I was able to try it in store today on paper - I think I will end up buying it at some point. i quite liked it, but will get a sample to try at home. Also, what do you have against trashy socialites doing stuff in the toilet??? 😂😂😂😅
definitely Iconic...I love the edp. I’ve been searching for awhile to find a signature scent but now that search is over. I Love Chanel Coco eau de parfum❤️

I just bought this in the 1.7. Cannot wait to smell like a trashy coked up socialite. 😄
I appreciate your honest opinion. 👍✨
I prefer also the edt version which is more versatile, more luminous than the Edp. The edp is more oriental, vanilla leather to my nose.
It reminds me of dryer sheets. Warm and cozy.
The most particular reaction for this treasure.I truly think that fragrance is gorgeous, luxurious, timeless, 80 ‘s shic , classy.
Love at the first sniff❤ .I dont like the most Chanel perfumes, but this one is glorious.
I don't think this is trashy at all. i love most of Chanel scents.

I like clove as well. While I enjoy having the EDT in my collection, I'm still debating whether I'd repurchase if I ever run out.

Have you tried Chanel Allure edp? I have similar taste to you and it was my first Chanel.
