      Yes. While I have no idea where the pantyhose idea to test sharp fret ends actually originated from, for sure Phil McKnight is to be given credit for bringing the idea to a larger audience - he has been doing that exact test for years now in his videos and AFAIK he is the only guitar youtuber who uses this concept.
      Gotta give props to Phil...

    Great video. The "strat" is the most basic form factor of electric guitar in the world. Leo Fender designed it to be modular. I've thrown together many dirt cheap but high quality strat builds in 40 years of guitar slinging. Strats are my thing. I don't care who makes it if the quality and price are right. But when they are not, I do my own build. I laugh my ass off at those who waste money on the Fender "Custom Shop." What a rip! There are also plenty of great aftermarket parts for great prices. For pickups you don't have to settle for Duncan, DiMarzio, EMG, or spend even more on Lollar, Fralin, and some of the other "boutique" brands. I've found good pickups for ten dollars or less.

    Nice job Brad. BTW I finished the Larrivee. (Yes knuckles are bruised battered & scarred) It was 3/4 size. Any way after 2 weeks of humidification all cracks closed except the biggest. So I CA glued the living sh*t out of it, & the other cracks. Sealed all the open wood, etc. The owner was thrilled. Now they're talking about a 70s Gibson acoustic that used as a bludgeon during a family row. I said I'll try. Great idea on the Blend pot. Never thought of it. (After a year & half of US Navy Electrical Electronics training you'd think I'd remember that crap). Any way your boy is impressed.

    People do not realize how much work (if done by hand, even MORE work) a neck requires to make correctly. The truss rod routing, insertion and capping alone is tedious work, if it is a different wood fretboard, that fretboard needs HOURS of work to cut, radius, sand, glue, drill - repeat several times, before it is ready to even begin putting frets on. When I buy a neck and it has perfect fret work, I.E. no sharp edges, no hanging frets, no frets cut short, and no high frets...I count that as HUGE win. If I have to do a little sanding, filing, gluing, refinishing work to it and it has perfect frets....I really do not mind the extra work I have to do.

      I've scratch built a dozen or so necks from curly maple or flamed tiger maple for les Paul builds and it is almost 1/2 the build of the entire guitar. mahogany is easier but it still takes a lot of work. Fret boards can take hours of work even if they are prebuilt.Very nice work Brad

    Don't download the app. The app is not just asking for the right to access your camera, contacts and Wi-Fi network. TEMU also wants the rights to unlock your phone at night without you being there and the right to be able to record audio. You also give TEMU permission to install software on your phone, read your messages and the app can take screenshots.

      I couldn't agree more. Temu is such a fraud. I really wish that Canada would police sites like this from China. I was ripped off by Temu for 3 items that were stamped and advertised as solid silver, but i received Silver plated instead. I also asked for a refund for a silver ring that started turning a copper color just after about a week of wearing it. Instead of the full refund i received less than a third of the price i originally paid. I got 6 dollars!!! Please stop supporting these sham companies.

    Temu has some great deals (except for the clothing) to be sure and I use them a lot.
    However, for around $200.00 or less you can get a Fire Fly guitar with locking tuners, bone nut, roasted maple neck, roasted ash or mahogany body, 2 alnico five pups and one Hum-bucker in the bridge and stainless steel frets. These are quality guitars that rival Fender made guitars.
    My 2 Stratocasters cost me $169.00 for a relic and $179.00 for a solid white guitar plus shipping. Just my 2 cents worth. Peace.

    Neat. I would like to see how TEMU parts hold up to months or years of settling down, as far as the neck remaining stable etc.
    Of course, any unfinished or oiled raw maple neck should be expected to shrink a bit. Bill Nash actually says it's a feature that his guitars lose moisture in the first few years. Fret sprout is inevitable.

    Kinda funny, I'm wrapping up a partscaster while watching this. I've got a sunburst alder Jazzmaster style body, vintage style 6 screw trem, 3 Firebird mini-humbuckers on a Strat style 5-way switch, and a nice Squier Strat neck. I found the neck at Goodwill for like $10-$15, classic one piece maple neck with the walnut skunk stripe and a nice smooth satin finish.

      @guitfidle 2 місяці тому

      One thing to keep in mind when thinking about the extra work needed with the frets- more and more frequently these days even a brand new instrument from a big name company needs some fretwork and setup. Fret ends rounded, nut slotted down to an appropriate height (most are way too high), truss rod adjustment, bridge height and intonation adjusted. Seriously, I have seen many of these issues with guitars in the couple thousand dollar range.

    I wouldn’t be surprised if that was meant to be a Squire neck, I have a Squire Strat from 2009 that has a flame maple neck with a body that was sprayed Lake Placid blue and then sprayed black.

      @sveablu 2 місяці тому

      Yes and no. It depends on the pickups. Darker sounding strat pickups with higher outputs might do fine with 500k. The best thing about all of this is there really are no rules. Experiment and see what you like.
