That Exorcist III scene was just the best. They play it up like something is going to happen, then it goes in too long and you "realize" it was a fake out, then SNIP!
I think the opening scene of scream should be nr.1. The entire opening scene is so good, it can serve as a stand-alone short movie of a girl being terrorized by a strange caller.
It’s a good scene especially the fact that Casey hangs onto the phone in a “death grip“ and her Mom picks up the phone and can hear her. But overall the scene isn’t original. The teenage girl gets a phone call and is terrorized by the caller who is “in the house” or “can see you” trope has been done over and over in movies like (The Original) Black Christmas. Wes Craven was great he really paid homage in all his movies to og horror
@@ckotcher1 it may not be the original but Scream is the best one. I’ve seen Black Christmas and I don’t think it’s held up well. I’ve watched it recently and found the calls to be one of the weaker parts of the movie. Honestly, I think when a stranger calls did it better. The original with Carole Kane, of course.
Carrie's hand coming out of the grave should have been on here, especially considering that the Friday the 13th ending featured here basically ripped it off.
The hospital scene in Exorcist III is a masterclass in how to deliver an effective jump scare. Everything from the build up of the scene, the way the nurse goes in and out of different rooms, to the horrifying sound effect and the cut to the headless statue, comes straight out of the playbook of horror perfection.
There are two movies scenes that got me. The first is when Harry is in the garage of the Nostromo. He is standing under some water dripping and the xenomorph grabs him from above. Spilled a large popcorn over several people with the jump scare! In The Thing a mere touch was enough to be infected. Being the last to leave the theater (to avoid any touches) I got into my car at midnight. Leaving the parking lot, turning left, SOMETHING ran across the floor in my backseat. Instantaneously I pulled off the road and un-assed the car and locked the BACKSEAT HORROR in the car. My EDC flashlight was also instantly deployed illuminating said backseat. THERE IT WAS the unspeakable horror of a coke bottle, still rocking and mocking me. I seem to remember a malicious smile in the glass.

Every Insidious movie scared me. One of the best horror franchises that will give you definite jumpscares. Especially in the 3rd movie, the accident scene where she gets hit by the car after seeing the Demon with hospital mask
Nooo I only needed to see Samara crawl out of the TV once to be traumatized enough!! I don't need to see it again. And that bear was terrifying! Haven't seen the movie but woah! and the womans voice - ah! scary!

30 years ago I rented SCANNERS on VHS from the videostore and the tv headscan explosion scene was all wobbly and even losing color from having been rewinded so much
That scene scared and disturbed the living daylights out of me and I only saw it on a TV for sale in a store! Hadn't watched the movie but couldn't stop watching that scene while my husband was shopping around for TVs. I stood there transfixed and terrified. I was sick about it for years! I will admit I do enjoy watching the Cassie Becker opening scene in Scream and also the releasing of all the monsters, ghosts and killers in Cabin in the Woods, can never get tired of these scenes. Oh, I also would have added from the movie Dressed To Kill, the scene where Angie Dickinson's character is attacked and killed in the elevator and when the elevator doors open to Karen Allen's character and what she does, love that scene.
The Jason lake scene even scared my Pitbull. Apparently the kid actor, they kept making him dive down to add more algae to him. He was freaked out about being down there and didn't want to be in anymore movies.
@shanepatterson8946 That scene was absolutely horrifying and still is! And the words and sounds she is saying are so terrifying and realistic! That movie scared me more than anything ever. In fact, it traumatized my whole generation. All of us kids, (Five in my family) went to see it and my younger brother was crying on the stairs that night, and we were all afraid to take a bath or even sit on the toilet. We were afraid to go into the lake to swim. My Mum was so mad. She was yelling at us to get the heck into bed and that there were no damn sharks in our beds, our bathroom or anywhere near us and that "will be the last time I ever let you go to the movies without asking 30 questions first! What the hell kind of movie WAS that?!" And as time has gone on, I know it for the masterpiece it was. I still watch it again and again. The best or one of the best movies ever made. It should have won a best picture award. Even though I'm still afraid of deep water...
@@paulagwhyte1720 It's so funny because you're right, my friends didn't want to go in the damn pool, but I found Jaws the equivalent of a Godzilla movie. It wasn't until later I realized that movie wasn't terribly unrealistic (in most ways).
One of the very few 'slasher' flicks with any real horror element to it. Helps that I watched it later at night at about age 10 in 1980 or so on Halloween night by myself because the baby sitter wouldn't watch it with me, but the music and the fact that it was all a new concept (at least to me) gave me real chills. Loved horror movies ever since but it's always been hard to recapture that feeling.

One of my favorite funny n intense scenes was psycho 2. When the cop was sucking on the ice cubes out of the box where Norman hid the dead body. His face watching the cop was legendary
there's still little that is more tense and frightening than pretty much _every_ scene in the original "The Exorcist." That film is a masterpiece of horror.
Good list, but missing some all time classic "rewatchable" moments...the pane of glass decapitation from The Omen, Regan's head-spinning in The Exorcist, the eyeball meets splinter scene in Zombie (aka Zombi 2), and the pig's blood scene from Carrie (as well as the dream sequence where Carrie's hand comes out of her grave, which Friday the 13th basically ripped off with its Jason reveal!)
22:57 From this top, my main favorite one was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), as big fan of the franchise. What really makes that scene so scary and effective is its suddenness. There’s no build-up, no music that hints an upcoming fright; it’s completely silent except for the sound of the squealing pig. It’s the sound of the hammer making contact and how downright nasty it sounds and the way how Kirk drops to the floor in convulsions from the blow. The sound of the pig punctuates Kirk’s clumsy trip and the way Leatherface hits him again to make him stop moving before dragging him inside seals the terrifying deal of the whole attack. But the moment that ties it all together is when Leatherface slams the sliding door, and the music suddenly has a lasting sting that haunts the moment and leaves you sitting in shock. The entire scene doesn't even last a minute, it happens in a matter of seconds and yet it sets the tone for the rest of the movie and tells the viewers that what they’re watching is much more than just a typical slasher film. 15:06 Also Ju-on: The Grudge (2002) is one of my particular favorite ones, since this movie introduced me inside the J-Horror genre. The stairs scene when we first saw Kayako crawling down has become very iconic. Since the film makes use of little means to scare, but they are used in the most effective ways. And although this film has more budget it still relies on atmospheric terror and creepy ideas that are simple but all too scary. Some other scenes that I consider that are re-watchable are the lift scene and the bed scene were Rika is laying down in the bed and Kayako and Toshio are staring at her. But no other caused greater impact than the stair scene that even on the american remake from 2004 caused the same impact, or even greater.
@lansesteiner3543. That shovel scene cracked me up instantly! "Would you like another sandwich? Are you sure, it's no trouble," TWANG! That came outta nowhere! I loved it!
Great list! For Insidious I would have picked the scene where the mom is talking about the dream and she walks into Dalton's room and the "monster" is standing behind the chair and when she asked it "What do you want" it slowly points that long finger at the kid in the bed. OMG I'm getting chills just typing that LOL.
Sleepaway camp is my #1 favorite movie of all time. I’m getting Angela holding the boys head tattooed on my thigh. The wide open mouth and her side eye just give me chills
I thought the Blair Witch Project was a documentary for years. I thought The Exorcist, the pea soup scene, the head spinning, oh so many scenes. I totally agree with Alien. The chest bursted scene was also frightening to the actors who didn’t know the way it was going to burst through. The Omen is also memorable to me, the death of the nanny for the dark lord. I still watch The Ring only in the daytime Final Destination and Death dealing with corpses in the morgue also has yuck factor.
3:44 Not sure why, but that scene gave me chills and thrills all at once. Immediately share identical reaction as Joaquind. I know this doesn't seem like a "big deal", but I'm 55 years old, been watching "horror" since I was 5 years old, nothing catches me off guard, spooks nor scares me, but that moment right there caught me off guard causing me to respond as if I was watching the news in real life.
You could get a bunch of re-watched scenes out of Thirteen Ghosts. The lawyer getting cut in half lengthwise and then slowly sliding down the door ... that was awesome. And not only because he was a lawyer.
@@Michael-dy2lb Yes it is, and I agree. I actually like that remake much more than the original - which isn't all that common for Hollywood to pull off!
Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of the most iconic horror movies ever, from Marilyn Burns to the meat hook scene!!! Marilyn Burns chase scene is probably the greatest horror chase scene ever!!!!
As for the pick for The Shining scene, I prefer the twins asking, "Come play with us, Danny. Forever, and ever, and ever." scene over the "Here's Johnny!" scene. And no mention of the jump scare at the end of the original Carrie with the hand coming out of the ground in Sue's nightmare, and her mom holding her as she screamed and shook in fear?
Hello there's a scene from the movie (I forgot the name) please help me find out the movie name so the scene is a husband asks his wife to act as his neighbour woman and he daily plays a role in which he cheats his wife with that neighbour woman (his wife herself) and one day the wife shouts on him for why does he want to cheat on her and then he admits and tells her how she has been treating all these days (she doesn't treat him well she is a toxic woman) so he tells all her toxic traits she has been showing him all these days and the neighbour (his wife) doesn't even talk alot so he feels peaceful when his wife is in her neighbour role. So guys please let me find this movie if anyone knows, thank you:)
Possession and Repulsion are the only movies on this list I haven't seen. Most of them I have watched multiple times. This is definitely a great list of films!
@Jeremiah_Rivers76. I don't have to imagine, I was there in the theatre when it came out. I was one of the screamers! Lol! Like the collective screams during "Jaws," and "Halloween," and the spontaneous applause when Chief Brodie says, "Smile you son-of-a-BOOM!"
This ain’t a rant per-say but no way should Saw’s ending be this low. Subjective of course but that ending scene still remains one of the best horror plot twists/scenes in the genres history.
I think top three should be 3. Here's johnny A recognizable clip even if your not a horror movie fan 2.scream opening scenes truly great masterpiece 1. The alien chestburster it is a moment not only in horror movie history but movie history in general
The Shining scene is my favorite moment in horror movies. Also where’s the Sixth Sense’s when Cole can see dead people! Also company of wolves has a WTF transformation scene, with a witch who wasn’t invited to the wedding, and turned those people into wolves!
I just can't stop rewatching the scene where the pale lady is attacking Chuck. She's actually slow, but everytime Chuck sees another pale lady, she seems closer just as if Chuck was just standing there, staring at her, waiting for her to make him be gone 👍👍👍. (Chuck is my favorite character😥). I feel like one of the upcoming horror films, such as the sequels to Scary Stories, Truth or Dare and Smile, I think either Scary Stories 2 or Smile 2 will beat Scary Stories 1. If Scary Stories 2 beats the original, it would be that, if not, definitely Smile 2 (But Joel is my favorite character😥). Before I found out that Scary Stories was actually my absolutely my favorite movie, I couldn't stop rewatching the scene where Bill was trying to save Dean from Pennywise in the glass-mirror maze
I would have thought the End Scene of 'Blair Witch Project' would have been over the close up scene Mostly so people (including me) would try to see if they missed anything. Repeating the scene to figure out Exactly what happened
One of my favorite scenes comes from A nightmare on elm street 3 Dream Warrior's, when Freddy uses phillip as a puppet that ultimately leads to his death. 😃
Hi Ladies And Gentle Mine Was Debbie's From A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 The Dream Master Her Transformation I Watched Over And Over And Over Again Until I Wore The Film Out Watching Scenes Like That And More Out It's Also My Favorite A Nightmare On Elm Street Sequel ❤🎉😅😮😊
Where's the scene of Freddy's glove coming through the ground to grab Jason's mask in Jason Goes to Hell, The Final Friday? It was the scene that no one thought we would see, that confirmed Freddy vs. Jason. At the time, it was amazing.
I can watch any horror movie in its entirety except The Thing. It was cool watching a young hot Kurt Russell, but I always closed my eyes during the chest bursting and parasitic transformation scenes; it was overlying grotesque.
Man i watched Sleepaway Camp in 2014 and let me tell ya i was so shocked that film was made in 1983 with the health scare going on back then its crazy that film was made and yes its corny sometimes but that ending and the reason why was amazing needs a remake

One of my favorite funny n intense scenes was psycho 2. When the cop was sucking on the ice cubes out of the box where Norman hid the dead body. His face watching the cop was legendary
In Psycho, the skull isn't just a skull, it is the face of his mother from the basement.
His mother has better fashion sense than half of America
there's still little that is more tense and frightening than pretty much _every_ scene in the original "The Exorcist."
That film is a masterpiece of horror.
Scanners; the famous brain blowing up is so intense and grotesque, and so good.
I don’t know about you but I watch the basketball scene from Deadly Friend and the shovel scene from Psycho 2 over and over for its hilarity
It's the unintentionally funny horror movies I like
I watched Deadly Friend every chance I got when I was younger; so many memories...
@lansesteiner3543. That shovel scene cracked me up instantly! "Would you like another sandwich? Are you sure, it's no trouble," TWANG! That came outta nowhere! I loved it!
@@paulagwhyte1720 right? She just shoulda accepted the sandwich 😂
I liked Ghost Ship. The ending was disturbing! But I thought there was decent suspense and a few jump scares.
I had the "head twirl" scene from Excorcist pegged as somewhere on this list ha ha!
The opening scene from 28 Weeks Later. That shit caused me anxiety when I was a kid.
I'm guilty of adding several hundred rewinds of "here's Johnny" on Netflix. 😂
Dont think it counts as a horror but the scene in "Naked Nuns with guns" where she shoots the guy's knob off and he picks it up! Classic
There is just something about that Bear scene in Annihilation that just chills me to the core unlike any other movie. Love me some cosmic horror.
What other cosmic horror movies do you enjoy?
Hey! @@WatchMojo,
I enjoyed Underwater and The Mist. The show "Love, Death + Robots" has got some great ones too. Notably, "Beyond the Aquila Rift"
Jason jumping out of the water should be number 1 u had to be there to see it greatest jumpscare EVER
Only time in my live where I threw my popcorn into the air from fright!
Scream’s first 10 minutes is Goated.
The infamous razor blade scene from The New York Ripper
You could get a bunch of re-watched scenes out of Thirteen Ghosts. The lawyer getting cut in half lengthwise and then slowly sliding down the door ... that was awesome. And not only because he was a lawyer.
You mean the remake?
@@smgdfcmfah Sure, if the one with Tony Shalub and Shannon Elizabeth is a remake, that one.
@@Michael-dy2lb Yes it is, and I agree. I actually like that remake much more than the original - which isn't all that common for Hollywood to pull off!
Absolutely number one Michael unmasked I agree
How about the top 10 horror movies where there's no survivors
I think they've done that before
So funny 29, 28 and 27 played in a row, makes me wanna watch Scary Movie 3 again 😂
David Shooting His Kid In The Mist Should Be On The List
I love the opening scene of "Scream"!
Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of the most iconic horror movies ever, from Marilyn Burns to the meat hook scene!!! Marilyn Burns chase scene is probably the greatest horror chase scene ever!!!!
I love when Hadley sees the Merman coming for him 😄
Unbelievable that Carrie's hand didn't make this list! Right at the end of the film. Best jump scare EVER. Hugs
I can't believe that the Puzuzu reveals in The Exorcist didn't make the list.
The spider walk in the Exorcist did it for me
Mythbusters tested the myth about getting cut in half by a cable under immense pressure snapping
Even though it's only a mention in the An American Werewolf In London section. Nice to see Dog Soldiers mentioned. 👍👍
Repulsion is a kind of slow descent into madness. I wouldn't call it a horror movie per se but definitely worth your time.
Imagine the more-or-less collective scream from audiences when they saw Carrie’s hand shoot out of her grave at the end of the 1976 _Carrie._
I think top three should be
3. Here's johnny A recognizable clip even if your not a horror movie fan
2.scream opening scenes truly great masterpiece
1. The alien chestburster it is a moment not only in horror movie history but movie history in general
Every version of the prom massacre scene from every version of “Carrie”. Always be my favorite.
The Exorcist III scene scarred me when I saw it, and seeing it again just now did it again.
The Shining scene is my favorite moment in horror movies. Also where’s the Sixth Sense’s when Cole can see dead people! Also company of wolves has a WTF transformation scene, with a witch who wasn’t invited to the wedding, and turned those people into wolves!
Paranormal Activity when Katie gets dragged down the hall should've made the list
I would have thought the End Scene of 'Blair Witch Project' would have been over the close up scene
Mostly so people (including me) would try to see if they missed anything. Repeating the scene to figure out Exactly what happened
Great list
One of my favorite scenes comes from A nightmare on elm street 3 Dream Warrior's, when Freddy uses phillip as a puppet that ultimately leads to his death. 😃
Hi Ladies And Gentle Mine Was Debbie's From A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 The Dream Master Her Transformation I Watched Over And Over And Over Again Until I Wore The Film Out Watching Scenes Like That And More Out It's Also My Favorite A Nightmare On Elm Street Sequel ❤🎉😅😮😊
One of my favorite scene I rewatch in Horror movies, is the Museum Massacre in (Dead Snow 2)
The chestburster scene scares me every time
Holy cow forgot Jauquim Phoenix was in signs 😮 haven't seen that movie in 15 years
I was waiting for WM to acknowledge that The Others is actually inspired by The Turning of the Screw, but no such luck...
Can you imagine Henry James watching it?
Where's the scene of Freddy's glove coming through the ground to grab Jason's mask in Jason Goes to Hell, The Final Friday? It was the scene that no one thought we would see, that confirmed Freddy vs. Jason. At the time, it was amazing.
I can watch any horror movie in its entirety except The Thing. It was cool watching a young hot Kurt Russell, but I always closed my eyes during the chest bursting and parasitic transformation scenes; it was overlying grotesque.
That's my fave horror movie!
Where’s the highway pileup scene from Final Destination 2 instigated by the log truck?? An entire generation is still traumatized by that. Haha
“The others” is so damn good. Honestly, I think it’s not only one of the best horror movies but one of the best movies of any genre.
I watched the scene from the shining "Here's Johnny"
I rewatched the huge gods hand coming out of the ground at the end more than the monsters part of Cabin in the Woods.
I kinda hope the actress of
Karen Barclay (Andy's mother)
returns in the TV series
Man i watched Sleepaway Camp in 2014 and let me tell ya i was so shocked that film was made in 1983 with the health scare going on back then its crazy that film was made and yes its corny sometimes but that ending and the reason why was amazing needs a remake
Ohh and I bet there's no thoughts on Lord's of Salem. Which was based on actual events. There's some crazy re-watch scenes.
Surprised that the face reveal of The Creeper didn't get a spot on the list
The Exorcist spinning head will always be the most traumatizing for me!
7:49 ...that's not a 'skull' per se. That his mother's mummified face from the cellar scene.
the thing, the fog, tourist trap, food of the gods, and snoopy come home
