I always like to think that it is the amount of soul and feeling one is able to put into his playing that distinguishes the real musicians from the rest.
And you always put more soul into your licks than Stevie wonder baking cookies in Jim Morrisons soul kitchen.
    Thanks for that!

Thank you for bringing music back into my life Marty. I was like you, when I was 13 I started taking lessons and had a teacher who could of cared less. So I quit. When I was thirty five (seven years ago) I picked up the guitar again and found your video's. Whoa, if I had had someone like you when I first started. I would be as awesome as you.LOL Now I'm playing with a passion, and not to just be cool. Thank you and your fellow Utubers for puttin it out there.

nice stuff. I lost my left hand pinky 2 years ago and was beyond depressed. Your stuff got me back. Have to think again. A good thing. One day the CDs will be a new part of re learning. Thanks for the motivation

Don't be too depressed. Clapton does a lot w/o his Pinky!! Might effect full chords, but u can tear up some lead licks!!

Terry Curtin nothing like your issue, but I have muscle issues in my hand and my pinky never played a note on guitar for the first 2 or so years of playing

Hey man if Django did it with 3 fingers you can do it with the rest! I know this was an old comment but hope all is well 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

A lot of blues players don't use their pinky, for example, watch Gary Moore (RIP) shred the fretboard with three fingers, or higher up the fretboard, with just two fingers!

You break the fundamentals down to the point that even a Paramecium is able to comprehend & learn how to play it easily in the simplest terms which makes it more enjoyable to watch , listen & learn from you Marty, you really do!

  • @MikmawWarriorBrave

I like the way you instruct. You are one of the few people that don't waste time over explaining. Most of the people showing SRV licks try to explain WHY he did it the way he did. They simply waste time breaking these licks down..way too much like the guitarist trying to learn never picked up a guitar before...lol... Anybody wanting to learn licks like this should already have the ability to play guitar and therefore just need to see someone demonstrate it a little slower speed..and then demonstrate it at regular speed to see it in action. Anyone that needs anymore explaination than you offer isnt ready for stuff like this...Good job!

Hey marty, I just wanted to say that by me watching your videos alone, people have asked me where i've learned to play the way I do (because i can actually play now) and it's truly amazing because when people hear that I don't take "real" lessons in person, they don't expect much. But when I finally play for them they get much more than the average kids' talent show. So thanks for it all!!! U Rock!

Hey Marty, just wanted to say that I've been hacking away at guitar for many years off and on, mainly acoustic, and have just recently purchased and electric thinline tele. I have been in love, in awe, blown away by SRV, may he rest in peace, God love him. You make learning songs/licks/lessons so easy and God Bless you for all you efforts and hard work. I have the confidence in my learning with your help! Love you playing style!

Learn the pentatonic minor scale first, then learn the other four positions and you'll have a solid base for developing lead skills; the pentatonic scale is probably the single most widely used scale in popular music. Learning it will also make learning the blues scale much easier.

Marty, months ago I looked up a lesson on Adele's "Someone like you."
Learned it and posted a video singing it for a friend who loves the song. I have since come back to you time and time and time again because you are the best teacher on line. I ordered your dvds on music theory because I started playing guitar when a band mate taught me just 3 chords to "whats up" I caught on quick , went on to perform covers from learning rythmn guitar. well now I want to expand and you are the man!

I was always completely lost whenever that happened & dreaded it! So here is what sets Marty apart from other UA-cam teachers. His mix is far better. I have noticed that there are others that once they start playing, you can hardly hear them because the guitar is so loud. You will get no such thing with Marty, he mixes it so that his voice comes through loud and clear with all the wisdom that we come to soak up from him. His guitar sings with all the tone, but at a volume that is perfectly balanced. Great video again Marty... digging the "blues week"

Hey Marty! There's another way of doing it that I've watched Stevie do live. That quick hammer-on when you reach the top can also be done at the D# (11 on the high E). Doing this gives the effect that you're actually in the key of Am for a second and you're hammering onto the blue note and then you go back down in Dm. Thanks for the great lesson and cheers!
