    Your review gave this scope great justice. All my other thoughts have already been written by others on this review, so I'll not repeat them. Just one thing, that focus issue irritated me on one of their other scopes I purchased. Got so fed up trying to focus that within 30mins of setting up I phoned FLO for a return. Shame because apart from that i loved the scope.
    What I'm saying is, for the price charged for telescopes they should be perfected to spec, before released into the market.
    Great review Luke. Clear sky's to you.

      I'm really glad to hear you liked the review, that's genuinely encouraging 👍
      Sorry to hear that there was an issue with the focuser but happy that FLO took care of you mate, that's good!
      I agree by the way, ideally astro gear should have a very low defect rate given the cost and relatively small volumes of goods - I do suspect it's already pretty good, but can't say for sure!

    A beautifully put together in depth review Luke! Thank you for all your efforts mate :) The focus mask test was interesting, and something I've not seen before. The only uncertainty I worry about is how truly parfocal the filters are. As you know par focal doesn't always mean parfocal 😅 Anyway, loved the video right down to the pacing and the wording to get your points across. Clear skies!

      Thanks a ton Chris mate, I really am chuffed to hear you liked it!! :-D I hear ya RE: the filters too haha! luckily i've tested this set on a 'pure reflector' system before (newt without CC fitted!), and they truly are a parfocal set so thought they were a good test :-D

    Nice review Luke. Looks to be a nice little fast scope producing some very nice images. It would be good to see one of the 3x3 Aberration Inspector views of the starfield to really get a good look at those stars in the corners close up as it was a bit hard to tell not zoomed in (although i was viewing this on my 17" laptop and not my desktop's much bigger screen). Hope your skies improve so you can get back to those longer projects. Cheers.

    Great review luke. It does seem these days that the market is becoming loaded with small astrographs, great for us amatures as there is plenty of choice but I do wish sometimes there was a bit more choice of longer FL scopes suitable for imaging the smaller DSO's like galaxies, plantery nebula etc. I never seem to come across reviews for such scopes on U Tube either except for the odd post relating to a Celestron C5/6/8 SCT.

    Perfect timing, was about to pull the trigger on this as I sold my FRA300 and that was very sharp for a 60mm aperture. could nto find any good info online about these ranges of 60mm quads. Was curious about CA. The FRA300, pixel peeping, had just a bit on smaller stars (with IMX571 color), but good round stars without any aperture vignetting nor any dark beams cracking the bright stars (a la FSQ 85 and the older pre-Askar quads). Glad to see it stacks up. I found the small 60 mm astrograph just a joy to use, small, easy balanced, plug and play. The FRA300 made an 80 mm triplet feel like a burden to carry out and setup by comparison.

      Hey mate! Thank you so much for watching and sharing feedback, I'm really happy that you found the video interesting!! 👍👍

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  10 місяців тому +3

      Thank you mate! - I've not had the chance to try out the direct competitors (other than the Redcat 51) so I can't say for sure how it stacks up side-by-side, all I can say is that if the other scopes are as good as this then it's a great time to be in the market for a widefield astrograph haha! :-)
      Clear skies!

  • @paulholdsworth2502

    Great review Luke! Definitely looks a cracking widefield telescope especially paired with a large sensor. The one I've got my eye on from FLO is the Stellalyra rc 8 which is 1600 mm of focal length for just £900. I reckon that one would be a great one to review from them if you could get your hands on one of those ? Anyway as ever cracking video Luke 👍

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  10 місяців тому

      Hey Paul! - I'm actually taking a look at one of their RC10 scopes! the RC8's are great, but I would be aware that collimation on the smaller scopes is a bit of a nightmare, with a ritchey-chretien you need to be able to decouple the focuser from the primary mirror and adjust independently, which you can't do on the smaller ones :-(

  • @DouglasCooper-ks4mt
    @DouglasCooper-ks4mt 10 місяців тому +1

    I have one of these, from FLO. Set up with 2600MC and as with all fast optics it is very sensitive to focus. Have now installed EAF to help with this.

    Fantastic review Luke! I do love a nice widefield refractor, they obviously lack resolution compared to larger instruments, but are much more forgiving when it comes to seeing/tracking etc. I'm always browsing the FLO website (dangerous I know!) but missed this. I'm really tempted to get one to have as a nice portable setup. I have bortle 2 skies less than 90 minutes away but never go there due having to lug 100+lbs of astro gear in the back of the car. Having something like this would make it much less of a chore.

      Thanks for sharing Brian! - I do wish I had a full-frame camera sometimes, so I could more completely test telescopes in this fashion! :-) I feel like it's performance over aps/c was tremendous though so it'd have to suffer a really sudden & strong degradation to be unusable on FF!

    Hay Luke. I like all of your videos and advice I've been out of astronomy for years because of a accident i had which put me in a wheelchair and being told i would NEVER walk again with 2 years in bed so i got rid of all of my equipment thinking there is no point yet 20 years later i can use a walking stick now to get around my house and garden a bit after hard work and stubbornness i recently got a seestar (i have got all of the parts you made from you) only because of the size and to get back into astrophotography not like the good old days of lumping tonnes of equipment everywhere. I want to thank you for giving me my passion back showing me that i can still be able to do astrophotography with out loads of heavy equipment that i can be able to use. Now i want to upgrade any advice would be greatly appreciated

      @lukomatico  9 місяців тому

      I thought to reply separately to your request for advice on upgrades from the Seestar - I'd be tempted with, budget permitting, a ZWO am5 as your mount to work from, as it's got a lot of payload capacity and getting started with a reasonably short f/l apo scope - I'd control everything with asiair for ease of setup to save you carting laptops outside etc too.
      As to cameras, it really depends on what you want to do! :-) mono or osc, and budget 👍

      I should admit that I have had really bad luck in buying astro equipment. Returns and sales are approaching 80!
      Only three companies were 100% as promised. They are Moonlite motorized focusers (every my scope has it!); Tak Epsilon 130D and pick of all 10um mount (absolutely wonder machine). Worse are IOptron and ZWO: one piece worse than another.

    I know you said you were taking the RASA off but I think the EQ8 might be slightly over mounted for this mate lol, in all seriousness it looks like a nice bit of kit for widefield & the price doesn't seem to bad either for a quad so no messing around with spacing & flatteners either which is a bonus. I also like the fact it doesn't have the helical focuser like the redcat does so fitting an auto focuser should be a lot more simpler to. If ever I were in the market for a widefield setup this is definitely one I'd seriously consider.
