We've just added a new page with FAQs and advice for people upgrading from Directory Opus 12 to 13. New users may also find some of it useful, but the focus is on how to update old toolbars and configs to use new features, and highlight some settings you may want to change if you're used to how old versions worked. docs.dopus.com/doku.php?id=release_history:opus13_upgradetips
Just upgraded and installed the Version 13. Epic! This is the only software that I have been using non-stop on the Amiga and now on Windows since the 90s. Dopus has become a part of my life after all these years. Thank you for always carrying on.
I'm viewing this video in Directory Opus 13. What sorcery is this? Now I can be both productive and unproductive in the same program. Nice work gentlemen.
The fact I started on DOpus 4 then the paradigm shifting mind blowing Dopus 5 on the Amiga, and I'm still using it on my Windows machines today is truly wonderful. Kind of keeps that Amiga spirit alive in many ways. This has literally been a consistent part of my personal and professional life for 30 years! Thank you Jon, Greg and Leo!
I only discovered Directory Opus the other day but I bought a license after just 10 minutes of use. No other software has ever impressed me in the way this did. Absolutely incredible piece of work.
The amount of new stuff in v13 is mindblowing... The upgrade went smoothly and the new dark mode is much better than the one I was using. With all the crap that big companies put out, to think that devs still care deeply about their work to release quality software is amazing! Thanks for the continued development of a tool I use constantly, every day!
Thanks for the update. What a mind-blowing array of new features! Please do an in-depth video course on how to use everything in Directory Opus. I'm sure I'm only using a fraction of what it can do.
The first thing I do on any new PC I build is install your brilliant program! I got hooked on this back in the Amiga days, and can't imagine working without it! Will be upgrading to the new version today. Keep up the brilliant work , and thanks!
Every release is a no brainer upgrade! Directory Opus remains the most prized utility I use, it is simply a wonderful piece of software, congratulations to the whole teams for this awesome release!
This program just keeps me happy for years now and is an essential tool I rely on everyday. This version in particular has given me many upgraded things I wished for.
Oh man, so many of these are features I wanted or didn't know I wanted. I wasn't sure I was upgrading soon, but now I have to. edit: 3:55 I've wanted this for years!!! This is awesome.
An absolute beast! This program takes a bit of patience on the use for the first time but trust me, later on you will find everything in this program which makes your life easy and perfect. Superb work guys. Never imagined I will be crushing windows and doing work 10x faster.

Absolut beeindruckend! Top Software!
Super, i've been using DOpus since v4 on the Amiga (i still have my v4 and v5 disks!) And I consider it one of the essentials no user should be without, as it takes away the pain of using the standard Windows interface.

This is an incredible update. Thank you very much for the effort and passion to detail. I'm using this program nearly 20 years and it's one of the first to be installed on every new Windows installation. It's an egg-laying jack of all trades and surely one of the best exports from down under.
I would just like to say thank you very much for making these videos I find them very useful and I’d also like to congratulate the team on the new Directory opus ., 13 great work everyone looking forward to all the new features .. and many more new releases to come
This is absolutely awesome. I thought, version 12 has all what I need and much more. Now I bought version 13 and there are so much new features which are great and surely useful in everyday work. Leo´s team did fabulous work. I tell everyone about Directory Opus because I can´t imagine how anyone could do serious file management without Dopus!
Congratulations Jon, Leo and team. I been using the beta for a while and bought loads of upgrade licenses today for my team. Like others, I've been a diehard user since the Amiga and have bought every version since. 👍
Love the Boing Ball, @IntrinsicPalomides! I was a C64 user, then Amiga 1000, 2000 and 4000. Not sure exactly when I bought DirOpus, but I remember fondly chatting with Leo on Harv Laser's AmigaZone. Saw this channel a couple years ago and was happy to buy DirOpus for my PC. Now I've gotta upgrade, and start making better use of it. thanks, Leo and crew!
Similar to me! VIC-20, C64 then onto Amiga 500, then my brother got 500+, i then bought an A1200 and later 060 GPU/HDD/SCSI upgrades for it etc. I still have those 3 machines but only the A1200 gets any use, no idea if the others even boot up still, probably all corroded by now.
This should replace the official windows explorer is so much powerful! I enjoy this gorgeous software and I can’t even think to stop using! Thanks so much for so much work and keeping update
I upgraded yesterday. Amazing improvements. I also have been using it since the Amiga days. I never go near windows. This is always running on my machine.

Still use DOpus on my Amigas, after all these years. Still dont use it to its full potential. This new pc version makes so many improvements that M$ coulda shoulda added years ago to standard Windows or offered as a plus purchase option. Glad this is still out there and improving.
Hello Admin, please tell me how to make "Go to pair" appear (like at 2:18 in the video) on the toolbar interface. I don't know where to get it out? Thank you!
I think that button ran "Go {sourcepath|pair}". See here for how to use commands: resource.dopus.com/t/how-to-use-buttons-and-scripts-from-this-forum/3546
Is this a video or a reference manual?... and I stupidly though v13 would be a few incremental enhancements... stupid me, this has epics amounts of new goodies. Amazing value :D
Hi, thank you so much for showing off all the new things you added. Where can i turn on Selection Summary? I can't find it in setting or the documentation
In Preferences / File Display / Status Bar, use the Samples button on the right to reset it to the Opus 13 defaults. (If you’re using a custom status bar, copy the relevant line out of there, then revert back to your original status bar config and paste it in.)
I use only small fraction of what the tool is capable of. I did my own dark them in 12 quite some time ago. The file modified date has been a source of irritation so good to see its easy to turn off the 'friendly date' format easily in 13. I really need to try and make use of more features. One thing I'd like to see is a built in hash compare. 12 didn't have SHA2, dunno about 13. But it would be good to be able to paste in a hash value somewhere (or point to a txt file with the hash in it) and have it compared to a file I click rather than me manually checking the first and last 6 or so chars and deciding its probably a match!
@@directoryopus Anything that isn't image or video data. Just like in Windows 10 and before, the user had full access to all meta data such as description, phone, and ect in both folder and file meta data. For me, I am looking to move from current Explore to an alternative so I can organize files better like I do in Obsidian or Anytype. Every time I look for an alternative Directory software, they always 100% of the time focus on image and video files and not other types of files. Workflows outside of only video and sound editing exist.
@@kangsan2014 "Anything that isn't image or video data" is impossible to guarantee. That would include encrypted data on unknown formats that haven't even been invented yet, which obviously we have no way to handle. If you have a more specific need, let us know. Our forum is the best place to ask rather than UA-cam comments.
The most important new features that I would like to get from a file manager are the ability to edit at least a limited number of YAML parameters for Markdown files, and display some metadata in the detailed view columns for sorting *.md files, for example: title, tags, comments and description. And also the ability to group files by tags, without combining files that have more than one tag into groups, but displaying them in groups of corresponding single tags. I don’t know if the translator translated my message correctly, but I couldn’t help but write it.
Columns to show data extracted from .MD files should be possible with a bit of scripting. If you post some examples to the forum, we might be able to help (although it could take a little while as we're working through lots of feedback after the release; someone else there may help sooner). -- For grouping by individual tag, each item can only be in one group at the moment, so it would require some changes. We'll put that on the ideas list. I can't promise if/when we'll do it but I agree it could be useful sometimes.
@@directoryopus There is an example in the Obsidian Properties help. Now Obsidian is gaining great popularity and every year this popularity will only grow. I’m not a programmer, but as far as I understand, no one has dealt with this issue yet, since there is no single YAML format for md. But it seems to me that the file manager who is the first to come up with this format and implement it, at least in a limited form, for example, compatible with Obsidian, will be the first to attract the attention of users of Obsidian, Typora, and others. There are already some Dopus-compatible extensions, such as MarkdownShellExtensions (github), but they cannot do this yet. Please do not pay attention to the translator's profanity, and I am not registered on your forum, since I have not previously had any questions about the program.
Been using DO for what seems like decades at this point. Is the free updates for one year and 40 dollar every year after that a new policy? I don't recall that being the case before?
New model is AUD $25/year for updates. As before, you get a perpetual licence for any version you’re paid for. After 13 took so long, with some features sitting on our machines for five years before anyone could benefit from them, we want to stop doing huge releases that take years to come out, and instead put out features as soon as they’re ready.
Yes, Opus 13 will read configs from Opus 12 and convert them over where required. That includes restoring older config backups, as well as installing 13 over 12. You can't go back the other way, though (Opus 12 won't understand every aspect of an Opus 13 config), so we recommend doing a config backup in Opus 12, then install 13 over the top. If you need to go back to 12 for any reason, you can use that config backup. Note that uninstalling Opus will remove the config, but also isn't required to install 13 over 12.
@@directoryopus Sounds good, I'm gonna buy it now, this software is an absolute game changer, I've used Opus for nearly a decade and couldn’t work without it.
I've been wanting Opus for years, but the lack of "column view" (like in macOS) is a dealbreaker for me as a creative. One commander has been my alternative for now, but I hope Opus one day reconsiders.
I notice my licence no longer mentions Pro, and lost FTP usage etc, are these features now deprecated? Could of sworn when i checked the About screen on v12 prior to updating it had Pro splashed on it.
There's no longer a Light/Pro distinction; if you have 13 you have what would've been called "Pro" before. SFTP should carry over if you upgraded an existing licence with it. If you bought a completely new licence instead, or upgraded the wrong one, please contact our sales email address and they will fix things up for you! It's also possible that you're still using a trial/beta certificate and just need to install the purchased one via Help > Licence Manager in the program. Please let us know if you still have an issue.
I have used this program for some time, my only issue ever is I moved pictures from one drive to another and only the folders copied no pictures. This hurt, but I still enjoy the program nevertheless
One way that could happen is if a Copy Filter was turned on (and didn’t match any of the files). We made it easier to see when the filter is on in recent versions, making the Copy button icon change to show a filter. (May require updating toolbars, if using custom ones. Please ask on the forum if you need help with that.)
Well, I have to admit I'm a little dizzy right now, but I'm sure many people here feel the same way. what to do? To be honest, I'm a little nervous about the upgrade because it takes too much time to understand all the options. Am I happy with what I have? I think so.
Yes, other currencies are handled automatically via the payments system, which will tell you the price in your currency before you buy. (To get an approximate conversion ahead of time, type "10 AUD in USD", into Google, changing 10 to the amount you need to convert.)
my v12.33 is becoming slower and slower when I haven't changed any settings. UI loads up super slow, and even switching tabs between top/bottom panels is super slow. No settings changed, no context menu changes. This is part of the reason i'm hesitant to upgrade. if it's still the same on v13, will i be able to get refund?
Check that you don't have lots of (or any huge) file collections accumulating, as that can slow things down. Other than that, it's most likely to be a problem caused by a shell extension something has installed. The FAQs on our forum have details on how to track down that kind of thing. You can also try Opus 13 for free before buying it, if you want to.
@@directoryopus I had a suspicion that it was caused by the Folder Tree. Googled around and found an old thread with similar issue pointing to folder Tree trying to load network drives. I don't have any network drive, but I turned off folder Tree anyway to test. And immediately UI speed returned to normal. Switching tabs between top/bottom panes no longer lagged. 😮 Not sure why. 🤔 I'll try v13. Do I have to uninstall v13 though, if I want to go back to v12.33? Or can I just install v12 over it? Thanks.
Yes, although there are some issues with dark mode on ARM at the moment, due to the way it had to be implemented. If you use light mode, all should be fine on ARM, based on the feedback we've had.

One commander has been my alternative for now, but I hope Opus one day reconsiders.
is there an amiga style included?
Any chance of a MacOS version? Finder needs help.
can i assorted folder as i wish?
What about an Amiga version?
Will install preserve my default view settings?
Install 13 over the top of 12 and your old settings will be preserved / converted. We recommend doing a config backup in 12 first, just in case.
Excellent! Take My Money!
Proton Drive doesn't get put in Cloud Storage
Is there any way to see all files by date from all folder at once?
Forum thread for same question: resource.dopus.com/t/see-all-files/49606
Can you please do DOPUS for MAC?
Love Dopus. My only gripe is there are so many options I feel like I'm only using 1% of what I could be :)
I would like to know if I paid for the 13 would I be getting anything extra as a new customer
I need none of these features but want all of them
Awesome tool 👍😀👍
I have used this program for some time, my only issue ever is I moved pictures from one drive to another and only the folders copied no pictures. This hurt, but I still enjoy the program nevertheless
One way that could happen is if a Copy Filter was turned on (and didn’t match any of the files). We made it easier to see when the filter is on in recent versions, making the Copy button icon change to show a filter. (May require updating toolbars, if using custom ones. Please ask on the forum if you need help with that.)
Clearly a Men At Work result!
Well, I have to admit I'm a little dizzy right now, but I'm sure many people here feel the same way. what to do? To be honest, I'm a little nervous about the upgrade because it takes too much time to understand all the options. Am I happy with what I have? I think so.
Will the update called "Announcing Directory Opus 13" put me in a demo version of 13? i.e. the trial version
Yes, even if trials for previous versions have expired, installing 13 will start a fresh trial period.
can it be used here in the united states? i went to the website but found it in Austrian currency.
Thanks.
Does Directory Opus work on ARM64?
Yes, although there are some issues with dark mode on ARM at the moment, due to the way it had to be implemented. If you use light mode, all should be fine on ARM, based on the feedback we've had.
Does the program do file history via checksums
Could you elaborate on that?
