You saved me! Ours turned off and would not even power on. I started shopping for a new Lorex DVR, when I came across your video. Just like you said, all I had to do was go through our myriad of extra cords to find one that fit. The DVR powered on immediately and we could see all of our cameras! I cannot thank you enough.
Thank you for posting this! Our old 480p wireless Lorex DVR quit in a similar fashion, I think right after a power outage. I tested the power supply and it showed proper voltage, but after watching your video I was skeptical still and tried a different 12V power supply (a little lower amperage) and that confirmed exactly what your experienced. These 12V power supplies seem to be prone to dying after a power outage. I'm ordering another one on eBay as I am typing this. I'm glad I was able to revive our system and save myself the $800 price tag of buying a brand new system now. It's only a deterrent for us anyway and we don't actually rely on being able to get license plates and facial recognition from our system. Thank you for sharing this quick and cheap fix!
So, bottom line, we learned that you did not actually need to remove a single screw, because only the external power supply was shot. Thank you for the time-saving tip. In my case, after trying TWO different power supply replacements, the HDD came alive. In the mean time, I had swapped the HDD cables to another disk and found the same problem ("No HDD", in system display). This lead me to "cut my losses" and unpack my BACKUP unit (Swann brand). The power supply for that one was same as Lorex, so I tried it, before disconnecting anything else, and now it all works. Problem solved. Thanks again.
I have a N841A8. Got a notification on my phone that the device is offline. Found it powered off. Checked power supply, it read 48.5V (rated at 48V 2A output). Opened the device and saw a momentary fan action when connected supply and also struggling LEDs. When measured voltage on board, saw severe fluctuation. Called Lorex, they suggested to buy a new NVR. Googled for logic board and found this video. Opened the supply, checked the 100uF 450V cap and it was bad. I had a 180uF, 450V lying around from one of my audio project (tube phono-amp). Replaced cap and its alive. Thanks for sharing. Interestingly we did have a power outage recently. Looks like Lorex has this issue for years now.
Can you please describe more of the issue and how you resolved it? I have the same NVR that has failed. Taken it apart but I am not sure what the 100uF, 450v is that you describe, is that a capacitor or resistor, and which was it, where on the board?
Is it the capacitor on the edge of the board, i get no consistency when testing pins on bottom of board with a multi meter but the other capacitor does have consistency.
@@NichoTBE Not the NVR, you will have to open the power adapter. Check the o/p of the power adapter, how many volts you see when unconnected to the NVR. Mine read 48.5V but when connected with NVR and measured on the NVR board, didn't get the desired voltage.
@@kunwar030477prashant NVR adapter shows 48.1v when not connected. Not sure how to test it when connected but there is a yellow/orange flashing LED near the power port on the pcb. The amps on my multi showed 0.6a when power brick not connected to the unit. Says output it should be 2amps. What do you recommend?
@@NichoTBE You can measure the operating voltage on the board under the female terminal where the male connector from the power adapter connects, while the NVR is ON. You will see the +/- soldering points. Fixing the adapter is alightly cumbersome. You will have to cut it open, take out the board, desolder old cap and solder new one and then glue it back. Cap I had was tad bigger so mine didn't close properly and I used electrical tape. Instead easy way out is, order a 48V/2A adapter online. Last I checked the adapter was $18-20 while the cap alone was $7-8. If there is a higher amp adapter available for lesser price, go for it. Voltage at 48V is must, amp greater than equal 2A as current is drawn by load while voltage maintained across the terminal.
Had the same issue short power outage and dead lorex had several other powercords and bamm back in business thank you so very much saved a lot of time and money
Thank you. Woke up my camera stop working I did everything you said found couple of power supply in basement. And man it working fine now. My 1st thought oh boy I might have 2 buy another system. So thanks a million.
Thank you. Tried changing the hard drive, still not getting enough power to boot up. I actually used one of the extra power plugs from the multi-plug camera adapter since I am not using all 8 cameras. Worked like a charm. Now I just have an extra hard drive but can't hurt to have a backup drive handy.
3 years later, still helping people solve the problem. Used the power supply from a neck massager, DVR works like a champ. Ordered replacement from Amazon. Although, everyone can start at 5:00 and get the answer by 5:45.
Thank you so much. I had a power outage in my neighborhood this morning and my cameras stopped working. This video just saved me so much unnecessary running around and money. Thankfully I had an extra adapter at home!
You made our day... Exact same situation even purchased frim Costco. Plugged in another power supply and worked. Thank you 1k times over for posting and sharing!!!
THANK YOU! You saved me from a new DVR and hard drive. First the hard drive stopped being recognized. Then a few days later, the DVR would not power on (but did have a long beep). Had an old netgear power supply for a router and everything is working like new. Thanks again!
thank you, i was going to trash my dvr but replacing the power cord worked. even though my electrical tester said my dvr was getting power with the old cord i guess it was not enough power. you saved me alot. thanks again.
Lorex has a prolong and serious issue with listening and responding responsibly to its customers. if this fantastic ukrainianbear05's web site was not available, more than $500 would now be wasted. A 12V 4.5 A solved my stalemate, due to a power outage. If in fact the owner of this site is an Ukrainian, GOD BLESS you and all your sympatries.
haha ! I was literally seconds away from buying a new DVR box when I thought to myself... "think I'll look on YT first to see if anyone else has this problem" My DRV box just had a blinking red power light and nothing else was working, I plugged in a new 12v power plug and hey presto !!! Thanks for the vid, save me money.
Thank you very much. You saved me a lot of $$$. I checked the voltage of my power supply and it still shows 12.0 Volts. But I suspect under a load it will not be 12 Volts. I found a spare car battery in the garage and hooked it up directly with some wires and a barrel connector I cut off another charger. It came right on and is working perfectly again. Luckily I discovered this after only a few days. There is an electronics surplus store nearby with a box of hundreds of power supplies for only $1.00 each. I'll be there tomorrow digging through the box. Maybe I'll buy a couple of spares.
I was about to spend hours and who knows how much money trying to figure this out for my night owl system. Thank you for sharing. Apparently power supply has surge protection!
had a similar with my lorex DVR exact same model. just it was the power supply for the cameras. threw the old power supply out and replaced with a old Toshiba laptop power supply, and works and been working over 4 years now.
Thank you so much!!! After playing with it for over an hour, we found your video and it worked!!! Thanks again for the video, you absolutely saved us time and money, cheers man.
Thanks for this. Had a similar problem with my sannce unit.Swapped over the power supply, problem solved. I was about to strip the dvr down, so thanks again for this saved me a lot of wasted hours.
Exactly the same as mine, swapped with a Hard drive power supply and it worked, Ordered a proper replacement on Amazon. Looks like the power supplies have about a 10 year life time. Which when left on for 24/7 isn't bad.
Only 2 and half years and She stops working! I was like of course right when warranty is over. I was going to order a new system and just keep the camera's as extras since its cheaper just to buy a new set since they are on sale. The newer version of this system is 299 on Lorex website. I was like You Tube has helped me fix alot of issues, so why not. Your video was the first that popped in my search. THANK YOU!!! I had an newer Netgear Cable Modem that i dont use since we just got a new provider and I used Ac Cable from that. Powered Right Up!! You just saved me $300. I am sure your wisdom comes from all the Holubchi and Verenyky you eat. Lol nice name, my Mom was Ukie. Thanks again!!!
Sir, I wanted to take a moment and say thanks. Like you have a knowledge of electronics and feel comfortable working on them but if a board component need replacing I will leave that up to the pros. I had a similar issue with my system from Costco. The power came on but the board, determined later was under powered by a failing power block. After removing the cover to my system, I observed the board fan turning very slow & HD not spinning up. A quick search on Goggle and pow your UA-cam post came up. I had an extra power block from an old system and poof the unit powered up and functioning like new. Thank you for your time in recording and posting your information in regards to the Lorex DVR systems.
Great video. Just had the same exact problem. You just saved me hours/days of troubleshooting. Was going to start taking my Lorex receiver apart, but your solution worked! Lorex needs to provide better quality AC adapters. Thank you!
Thanks for posting. Mine is Exact same issue this morning. My cameras are newer (5 years old from Costco). Camera was totally dead and I immediately tested directly the power supply (mine is 48VDC). It has 48VDC. This is directly coming from the plug with multimeter once connected to the center pin on the plug and one on the outer metal. So I assume it is getting 48VDC to the unit although there might be a failure that causes 48VDC to be available but in actuality it might not be able to supply what is needed due to whatever. So now I will take out the inside stuff and do some more diagnostics.
Thank you very much!!!!!! I will fix this before husband gets home from work!!! LOL !! He will be amazed by my super power ! (eventually I will confess the ease of repair)!! Thank You !!!!
Thanks Alot my brother! Same problem but I actually just unplugged and plugged back the hard drive cables and it’s working again. Felt like kind of like a reset. But I will still but a replacement power supply as it is probably nearing its life expectancy.
Thank you for your video! Mine kept cycling on and off. Remembered I still have an older DVR system from another brand, sure enough same size power supply. Works again.
Thanks for sharing, you saved me $500! I had the same issue. I had tested the power supply for voltage, and found 12+volts, but I hadn't considered that something else might be keeping the available amps down in the power supply so I thought the DVR must have fried. . I was on my way to Costco for a new system when I stopped myself and decided to check here! Again, thanks!

I tried replacing the power supply but it didnt work. I realized that yours does not have power at all. Mine has power when you turn it on but nothing is showing on my tv screen. And it just keeps on making that rebooting sound but still, nothing to see on my screen. What do you think is the problem?
I have replaced the stupid cooling fan on this board twice now, so when it started emitting 4-second-long ear-splitting beeps at 2:30am a few days back I figured it was time for another one. Alas, it would not even turn on this time. Wish I had tried swapping power supplies before opening it up again.
It didn't work 1st or second time but I notice amps play a role. Just not 12v. The 1sr 2 trys it worked bout 1min then shut off so I found 1 with higher amp. Now it good. Thanks bro
Thanks man. I was getting ready to buy a new system after a drive 'failure' and replacing the drive didnt work. This got it back going. Detecting the drive again. wtf lorex
Very Good... So now your Troubleshooting skills have also increased.....Next time you will check all external components before looking into internal. I would purchase a 2.5 a 12 vdc power supply... Take care...

Worked for me. Thanks!
Now if I can find a way to quite down that darn fan I'd be happy.
Thank you!! I was afraid I had to buy either a new system or dvr. Replacing the power cord was exactly what I needed to do!
Thank you very much.
I have a zosi cctv and the same thing happened to me. Luckily enough I had a spare power supply and it works great now.
🎉👍

Just saved a bunch of money by just switching the power supply. Thanks for sharing the video!!
Thank you. Replaced the power supply and it's working properly again.
Do you know how to disconnect the Fan and to replace the fan?
Thanks so much. Had same thing with ours and just fixed with another supply. I was ready to trash
Thank you!!! it was the power cord I changed it and works.
Your the man. Thanks for the quick fix and just saved me hundreds.
Thanks. I have the same DVR and the same problem. This is amazing the similarities in the steps I took to get to the same point in your video.
thanks for the feed back I had the same issue with my lorex and switched the power supply and it is working now, thanks ones again
I have beeping DVR LorexEcoStratus. Any advice for fix this issues. Do I need to replace hard drive?
Thank you. Saved me from buying a new system.
thank you finally my camera dvr works
You took the board apart to figure out a bad PS. Kudos man!
Man you are a life saver
The same thing I did and it worked
Thank you God bless you
I'll be trying this on mine tonight, it stopped powering on over the weekend. Thanks!
Thank you so much for posting this, you are wonderful...
Awesome man thank you for sharing!!!!! I have no power coming out of my cooling fan wire? Do u have any idea .
Thank you !! im already planning to buy another one. Got it running after replacing the power adapter. Im not suspecting it to be the power adapter since a LED indicator inside the board is lit steadily. Thanks again !!
Thank you. I tried mine and it worket. Thank you you saved me a lots of money and time
amazing i fixed them thanks for your video … help me a lot thanks so much 😘😘😘😘
this worked for the night owl security camera too...thanks man
Thank you somuch for posting this very help full video special for me I had the same issue.
Thanx man fixed mine with new power supply
Nice video. Thanks for the info, I never thought of that. Just for record, 2.5 amps and 2500 milliamps are the same. No metric terms involved. Also, don't use a 9 volt power supply because the lower the voltage is, the higher the amps drawn are. It may exceed the amp rating of the circuitry on the board.
That was hilarious! "Metric". Right -- as compared with the olde English system of standard amps or volts.
Thank you. Had the same problem with loocam cameras setup. I changed the power port and it worked. I opened the one that was bad and it smelled like burned wired. 👍🏼
Thanks for this video. I have been searching all over for an answer. I have the exact same symptoms with my HIKVision DVR. I checked the voltage of the ps and it seems ok but didn’t try it under load. I’ll try a different ps tomorrow.
Thanks bro. I got an LED light and connect it to the AC the LED was blinking as the light was doing on the Dvr
Thank you so much...just saved me loads of frustration.
IT RESOLVED MY CASE TOO ! MANY THANKS !!!
I tried replacing the power supply but it didnt work. I realized that yours does not have power at all. Mine has power when you turn it on but nothing is showing on my tv screen. And it just keeps on making that rebooting sound but still, nothing to see on my screen. What do you think is the problem?
Thank you so much, had same problem now fixed had an extra power supply, did'n even take the cover off. thx to your video
This was perfect, thank you. saved me lots of money and time.
Thanks buddy, you saved my time and money.
Thank you! Worked for me. I almost bought a new one.
Gracias por tu video, me sirvió para arreglar mi dvr.
Saludos
I have replaced the stupid cooling fan on this board twice now, so when it started emitting 4-second-long ear-splitting beeps at 2:30am a few days back I figured it was time for another one. Alas, it would not even turn on this time. Wish I had tried swapping power supplies before opening it up again.
Thank-you. You saved me lots of money.
That was it! Unit works like new again. Well that saved me a few hundred dollars!
Thank you like every other comments great information fixed it right away
Thank you! This worked and did fix the power issue. However, no video will display on any of my monitors anymore. Any recommendations?
Hey Bud, great video, save me loads of money so thank you very much. new power supply and all works well again. many thanks
It didn't work 1st or second time but I notice amps play a role. Just not 12v. The 1sr 2 trys it worked bout 1min then shut off so I found 1 with higher amp. Now it good. Thanks bro
This help me with a zosi dvr thank you
Thanks this happened to me too and save me a load of money on repairs.
Thanks man. I was getting ready to buy a new system after a drive 'failure' and replacing the drive didnt work. This got it back going. Detecting the drive again. wtf lorex
Worked for me on a Zmodo DVR!! Thanks!
Thanks save me a headache and lots of money.
Very Good... So now your Troubleshooting skills have also increased.....Next time you will check all external components before looking into internal. I would purchase a 2.5 a 12 vdc power supply... Take care...
Positive and negative shuted, no power, the power source is good what could be the problem
thank you so much, I almost spend over $100 to buy a new box.
