  • How many construction time-lapses include a protest about Tibet? Probably not many, I'm guessing, but this one does. This week starts out on the wrong foot as I missed part of Monday morning because I forgot to start up the time-lapse camera on Sunday night. However, once it gets going, there's a fairly even distribution of activities this week, including concrete pouring, rebar work, excavators and dump trucks, and we briefly see tower crane #2 doing real work for the first time. In addition to that normal stuff, on Tuesday a protest march goes by the construction site. With the switch to DST, the work is now starting before daylight in the mornings.
In this "Ⓗ series", we're following the construction of a new 12-story hospital that will occupy an entire city block in San Francisco. This is a construction time-lapse at 900x, with 18 "bonus" highlights/closeups scattered throughout at various speeds, compressing the 6-day period from March 9 - 14, 2015 (Week 37) into about 21½ minutes. Night-times and non-working days are omitted.

What are the extra wheels on the back of the dumpsters for?

What is DST? Something standard time? Also what are the extra wheels for on your dump trucks?

DST = Daylight Savings Time. The extra wheels are there because many states, California included, have laws that limit the amount of weight per axle. If the truck is carrying a lot of weight, the extra axle is lowered to distribute the weight among more axles. When not needed, it is raised to save on fuel and wear on those tires.

@@HospitalConstruction I've seen extra axles on trucks, but they're usually in front of the main driving axles and are just raised or lowered a few inches.
