Drove through in the fall of 2018. Remember this is high elevation desert. One lady mentioned winter can get as cold as forty below????! Those miners were so tough.
Extreme heat and cold in the high desert also high wind. Miners had to be tough, you can see how these old ghost towns were a difficult life style for sure. Thank you for watching and the comment and we will see you in the next one.
Thanks for sharing your adventures! I drew a series of pencil drawings years ago of old barns, houses and such, which I aptly named, "Vanishing America"... Your videos show it happening. 🪶🪶🪶
It really is. In person it looks even better, we have been hear a few time and enjoy it more each time. Thank you for watching and the comment and we will see you in the next one.
In that haunted house, I think you missed an opportunity to point out something cool. There's a deer with antlers illusion at the 9:30 minute mark. Imagine the surprise of that under the right circumstances. :)
For sure, that hotel is creepy at night. I am sure there are ghost deers looking for there antlers as all of the light fixtures are made from them. Thank you for watching and we will see you in the next one.
I sorry I missed the place when my wife and I stayed at Cathedral Gorge State Park for a couple nights. We did explore about 3 other state parks in the area. In mid April, we're exploring ghost towns a number of attractions in between from Reno (where we live) to south of LV, . The topper is kayaking from Willow Beach Marina to Emerald Cove. Perhaps we'll detour Pioche on the way back.
I am getting old now, but have noticed lately, how confusion changes the truth. Specifically, in reference to "Boot Hill" cemeteries.... The facts about them, were still apparent when I was a very young boy. There were still remnants and evidence on some graves, where there was a post as a marker, with the rotted leather of an old boot, that had been placed upside down on the marker. My grandfather had told me that the term "Boot hill" came from those Boot markers. Apparently, men were known by nicknames, their hat and the boots they wore. These were the three main ways that a man's grave was marked. Over time, it became a sense of dishonor, to be marked by a Boot, or a hat which just blew away... because it meant that no one knew you well enough or cared, to make a decent marker or use your name.... Thus the term "I want to be buried with my boots on" became a pre death verbal will to a man's friends and aquaintenances that he wished to be remembered with a more respectable marker ..... a slaughtering of the truth about the term "Boot hill", has come out of newer generations who gather a false impression from movies and TV and "wet behind the ears" tour guides .... who are apparently even making plaques at cemeteries now, depicting a complete misnomer of the terms and realities of life in the .... EARLY ...... west. (As grampa, a union pacific railroader from 1894 to 1949, used to call it) 😏 Even the term "old west" is used loosely, and mostly as an advertising scheme. But there will never be a shortage of people chasing "ghosts" .... it was popular to do so 150 years ago, and it is still popular now. That will never change.
Thank you for the story, I would like to quote your information in a upcoming video if that’s ok with you. History can be a mess at times that is for sure. I try to be very careful with our content. Thank you for watching
Thank you so much for the history lesson especially since I’m a history buff. I moved to Nevada 11 years ago from South Louisiana and let me tell you I fell totally in love with the west. I grew up watching countless westerns on television. I can’t get enough of the history. Btw Louisiana is the opposite in every way than Nevada. From the people to the climate to the roads the landscape and everything in between. What’s wrong with people that aren’t interested in history? I want to go to Pioche soon too
USMC Excellent points. Likewise, I always had a problem calling places like Iowa "Midwest", rather than "Mid-America". A place "in the middle of the west" would be Utah, Montana, New Mexico or Wyoming, and NOT Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, Arkansas or Illinois!
Haha, yes and when I was there it was creepy. I was the only one on the floor I saw nobody not a sound until the back of the hall way. I heard a couple of bang’s. I was a little freaked out and then a worker walked out and said hello. She was getting supply’s. I want to go back and do a video of just the Overton. Thank you for the comment and watching.
I am sure that is what it is, disease hit this town hard and took the lives of many at an early age. Thank you for watching and the comment. We will see you in the next one.
Well I hope they are doing something. I don’t want these to ever fall or go away, this is amazing to see. I hope you enjoy the channel. Thank you for watching and the comment. We will see you in the next one.
Haha I agree, I’m getting better at filming the cemetery’s, when I was younger I had fear of them.in our next couple videos I’m able to feel better about it. Thank you for your comments. 👍
Haha, I think I am getting a little better. I can’t imagine what would happen if I ran into a manikin in a graveyard at night 😂 thank you for watching and we will see you in the next one
Hello, there are a few but they say many were not know as they traveled to town from many location and shot and killed. Here is a some of the head stone names and info. “Morgan Courtney: Feared by some, respected by few, detested by others. Shot in the back five times from ambush.” “John B. Lynch: Shot during dispute over a dog.” These are just a couple of the telling epitaphs you’ll find among graves of dozens of outlaws who never left Pioche. I talked with a local at the million dollar court hose and they said like all stories the numbers could be inflated. But this location is awsome and we go a couple times a year. Thank you for watching. Thank you for the comment.
Unfortunately this seems to be with most, I guess that’s how they raise the money to try and preserve them. Thank for watching, I hope you enjoy the channel. Please comment as much as you like it helps us get better 😀👍

I live in pioche, it does indeed get very cold but -40 is a bit of an exaggeration but can usually get down to -15 or so
Thx for sharing this cool video

Great video..Late to the showing of this ! Wonder how come one of our British Phone Boxes ends up in a town in the middle of nowhere ! (Timing 6:05)
Thank you, i went into a couple of shops there and I should have asked. Thank you for the comment. See you in the next one.
The post office part of the million dollar courthouse was part of the old post office in Caliente. It was located where The Country Store is.
