Tuning pro tip: always go below then back up, especially with vintage, non-locking, or older tuners. If you just tune down to the pitch, once you start playing, the vibrations from the string, vibrations from the neck of the guitar, and any tension added from bends, can make your strings go flat. This is because the gear in the tuner will lock into place while tightening, but can be slightly loose when loosening, causing it to slip.
Doug Clark thanks man! You’re absolutely right! That’s my normal practice when I tune. I was trying to be very quick in the video and trying to show how the ST-200 tuner works. The strobe is something most people aren’t used to.
You're probably used to single coils in a tele. The humbuckers are darker, but try listening through good headphones or IEM's. It's really not all that dark, almost seems like he could use a fresh set of strings though. UA-cam also puts a huge compressor on its audio.
CJ McGee the tone before youtube was very nicely compressed. That’s probably the difference. And the darker tone accounts for the live mix he normally plays in. It’s cut in the higher end to keep from interfering with the vocals.
@@theworshipresource199 The Lehle is a great pedal. And it would server you much better if you placed it after your last gain/dirt pedal and prior to any time based effects. This way your gain levels are constant and you are merely raising or lowering your overall volume. And you still can use it to kill any noise from the dirt pedals. To each his own, but with your setup, there is really no good reason to put the VP directly after the guitar, which is what you have when your tuner is bypassed. That VP also has a buffered out specifically for the tuner.
Hey bro.. that tuner is true bypass.. It will tonesuck..also I'm not sure if that volume pedal is buffered or not.. If not it will tone suck whether it's a high impedence pot or not..
Beautiful tutorial bro, so revealing! I deeply appreciate you, would you be willing to share your effects order / signal flow? That’s where I always scratch my head lol. And thank you for what you do!
@@theworshipresource199 I love your tele so that for sure but all of them! Something I don't see very often online is how guitarist get such great tone for worship. It would be nice having videos of your guitars and how you use/mix the pedals and amps to get the right tone for worship in general!
The tuner on the board looks a little hard to tell. If the circle is spinning, how can you tell if you're sharp or flat? I may not be a big pedalboard guy, just because I'm poor, but if I was to build my own, personally, I would choose the Boss chromatic Tuner pedal or the Polytuner pedal because it has an easier read-out.
pretty sure that tuner is in strobe mode, meaning the direction of the light (red) determines if it's flat or sharp - hope that helps! Personally using the Polytune 3 (noir), does the job, is also a buffer - also can't beat the price lol
Great video, it’s great to watch this on a good home theater setup or hook into a good stereo...iPhone buds and the like don’t do justice. Sounded much better through my home theater rig. Good basic board, I think many cover in adequacy’s in playing with a bunch of effects...which at the end of the day no matter how good are time suckers
Rod Morgan thank you! We definitely recommend listening to any of our videos on nice speakers. Glad you’re doing that! And you’re right! Pedals should enhance, not cover up!!
Great stuff! Just curious - how are you handling patch changes? That seems like quite a bit of tap dancing especially for worship songs! Any tips for handling different songs without a pedal foot controller?
Rise Revival Worship honestly, if you’re not gonna get a looper or a foot controller, it comes down to pedal placement. My layout is very effective for me. It definitely takes practice. I just don’t want to spend the money on a looper. Hope that helps.
Thx for you inputs. Sounds are not really my cup of tea :) Never enjoyed Fender guitars with any amount of gain. Also, in 2019 I don't see any reason to spend lots of money and time on buying and arranging individual pedals. You get these amazing digital amp modelers and multi-effects boards that are cheap, compact, sound amazing and make your life sooo much easier.
As people who play worship music and things are often dynamic and allow room for the spirit to move the modern worship guitarist has to be able to be flexible and dial things in on the fly sometimes. Putting together modeler presets for a 5 song set list is cool and all but there could be a situation where the spirit is moving the leader into playing a different song to close a service. Say you planned on playing God of the promise which is upbeat and heavier when it comes to overdrive. The worship leader decides to switch out the song for something more soft and lush like Good Grace. Having a 100% modeling setup could prove hard to be flexible to setup between songs since most of the signal chain adjustment is hidden in menus. A board that uses both pedals and modeling at the back end is the best option in my opinion since it gives you ease of use and flexibility to change things on the fly using direct input knobs to dial in tone quickly when needed.
Cody Curnutte very good point. And I agree that it might be hard to flow if you only had programmed settings. However, one way to be ready for that would be to build a performance/rig that was specifically for flowing. Say, two verbs to choose from, a delay, a couple OD options. That would work pretty well. I do agree having a separate board would definite make it easier, but it’s possible to do it with only a remote and Kemper.
Great board! But to tell the truth I don't like this compression, it's too thick and the original tone is lost in it, but it's IMHO I guess that tastes differ)
Jared Potter almost every worship guitarist I know funds their own gear. In college I played lead guitar on Sunday’s while being a full time student and working part time at Subway. Bigger churches like Elevation, Hillsong, etc. probably pay their touring musicians, but the church doesn’t directly buy them gear.

We work regular jobs, save (or sell older gear), then we buy gear. Church almost never funds unless it's a necessity for the whole team, such as mics and monitors.
Cristian Videla Strymon power is overrated. They make great pedals, but their power signal isn’t noticeably better at all unless your using a cheap daisy chain. Voodoo Lab and One Spot Pro are perfectly fine- you just have to be intentional with the right voltage to each pedal.
Shea Johnson I actually built it myself. I used birch plywood and put metal aluminum bracing around the outside. It wasn’t super hard. Only cost was materials. I spray it with plasty-dip.
man i always watch these hoping that i'll see something different, but every single pedalboard is just a clone of every other "worship guitarist" pedalboard lmao. And they are all basically copies of Jeffrey Kunde and Nigel Hendroff haha it's all so boring now
I think it’s cuz mostly all worship sounds the same and therefore most pedalboards are going to be extremely similar. I agree though I wish there was something more different but that specific ambient sound is so perfect for worship to get you super emotional and to be able to invite the Holy Spirit in. IMO
I use to be around worship players, they are boring :) and some are super arrogant and have obsession for too much delay, reverb and SHIMMER!!!!!!! Boring!!!!
Rick Hilberts this was an unscripted one-take video. AND it was early. I’ll make sure I prepare more descriptive adjectives next time ;) However, you should try the phenomenal pedals. You might think the same thing I do ;)
All sounds good but yes, worship bands esp Hillsong and Bethel are all becoming the same ( start off with a dream pad, gentle singing, barage of sound , lots of shouting, and then tailing off again) and as a consequence, all worship guitarists are sounding the same, using the same gear and trying to get the same sound. But this happens to all music genres anyway. It needs somebody really innovative to come along and shake the thing up. All the pedals are just clones of themselves. Even the new strymon nightsky really isnt that different.
Tone... So subjective. This guy obviously loves his setup and tones. I think it sounds thin and, well, just cheap. I'm sure he would think my tone sounds muddy. I'm sure it also sounds much better in a mix
IR1 bro I’m not trying to be mean but the polytune is the worst pedal tuner I’ve used. Boss tu3 is light years better IMO but I also use the sonic research tuner and it rules.

I like to run my UA-cam setup with a metal zone going into a walrus SLO for a nice even tone
It started so cool with the clean tone then after compressor it slowly turned into mud. :) amps tone is really good btw
I love this channel! Your guys' videos are really helpful and well made.
Ben Wiersma thanks! We really appreciate that. We’re glad you’re watching!

I personally think that the worship pedal boards are the best.
I personally think is obscene to go to a church and come up with a crazy expensive gear. Well, i guess USA’s church are not for the poor and needy.
How do you keep your pedals on the board? Velcro? How to you carry that around with you? Do you unplug things and plug em back in?
Goodsell makes a killer amp. I’ve got one of his valpreux amps. Honestly, I could play just this one the rest of my life.
Should definitely do a video of the mods on your guitar and the specs! Woods, pickups, etc
Diego Eduardo for all of our guitars? Or just this Tele?

Adrian Valencia it does color your sound just a little, but it’s the good kind of color ❤️
When using parallel compression, there is a big volume increase on my sound. Anyway to avoid this?
is it ok to put your lehle at the beginning of your chain.
Curious, you never covered how you're powering your pedal board. What are you using? what are your connection lines in order?
Would it be possible to get a video on advice for players who are between the beginner and intermediate stage wanting to get into worship guitar?

Excellent rig. Love the analog and tape delays. I wish I could justify 2 expensive delays lol
Luke Flint dude. These two delays compliment each other so well. Don’t break the bank, but I’d recommend doing if you get the chance.
The Worship Resource I have the brigadier and the hx stomp as a second delay but the stomp isn’t quite as lush as the el Capistrano for tape sounds.
