  • With pen shows and a busy month at school, my March Second Takes video is really late. But, hey, we're gonna talk about some pens, try out some paper, talk about glue tapes, and check out some inks. There are some links below to things in the video, and some of them are affiliate links that help out the channel. There are other affiliate codes below there, too, if you're interested.

I use a lot of different things. Some of them are interesting, but not enough for a video of their own. Some things are in testing for a while to see how they work and fit into my life and work. This video series looks at what I've been using for the last month (or so) and how they're working. Sometimes they're not. Let's get into it!

With the Endless Creative Block, try running a line of white Elmer glue along the back edge where the pad and the cardboard meet. Put a weight on it and let it sit overnight and you should be fine.

Hmm. That might work. I'll see what I have around for glue. Might have to be superglue. 😅

I had the same problem with the Endless Creative Block. I love the ink name Orange Bunny!

Thanks, Mike. For the TWSBI Eco Caffe Bronze I would recommend Noodler's #41 Brown ink. But any nice brown ink would do.

I went with Robert Oster Honey Bee, and I'm happy with that choice so far.

      @@inkdependence That's a nice choice.

Seems like the box on that Rhodia pad would become a hinderance as the pages get used up - having to write down in there?? I do love that Kasama pen, and I would put RO Cafe Crema in that Eco. Thanks for the reviews!

I think that the box might be annoying as I get deeper into it, but we'll see. At least the pad is easy to take out, so I could just use the box for storage? Time will tell.

Where can you buy the Kasama uma pulo pen?

You'd have to reach out to them on Instagram or through email, I think. They make these in small batches, as you might imagine.

Bummer about the paper pass pads. I hope Midori takes your advice about tracking the pad down more securely.
*I* don’t care much for black ink. It’s OK once in a while, but a green ball point should come with green ink.
That Kasama is beautiful, but I’m still hoping someday, somehow, to get one of the rainbow-y ones.
I do like that TWSBI, too. What about Cat General for that?
Didn’t Opus put out a couple minis with cats? Those must be the Opuss pens.
I’m glad you’re the one who has that Ironfeather pen, especially since you have that pen rest that matches it so perfectly. Your appreciation for and enjoyment of that pen is delightfully palpable.
I wish that Lamy Forest were available here. I like the darker time and the gold fittings.
I really like these Second Take videos. I wouldn’t mind Third Takes for products you’ve been using for, say, three months or half a year.
Textured washi tape? Where did you get it? Tell me more.
    Thanks for the updates, Mike!

Oh, no, I think Midori does it right. It's the Endless ones that need to be more secure.
I don't actually know where the glittery washi tape came from. I think those were given to me by someone who was de-stashing some washi at a pen show, and I liked the look. They feel nice, and they look great, but they're not all that sticky.

A pen with a PEEK cap, ultem body, and cerakote coating? Apparently I had an unknown to me Pavlovian trigger because that pen had me salivating! Do they have a US distributor?

Not exactly. Mark Bacas (The Nibgrinder) sometimes gets some to sell, but you can always reach out to Kasama directly through social media like Instagram. Shipping is a bear, but it's sometimes worth it. (I was in a very small group order, so we saved a bit on shipping.)

On the Sharpie S-Gel, I wonder if you just got a bad refill? I have several of the pens and have had no problems at all. They always start and always write smoothly.

I think these came in a pack of five or something like that, and they’ve been hit or miss. This one was working okay for a bit, but then it just stopped for no apparent reason. After this and the rollerball experience, I think I’m just stuck to what sharpies are best at: permanent markers. The highlighters are okay, too, but they never end up being my favorite.
