MegaBot Mk II at Maker Faire

  • This was awesome! Megabots ran a Kickstarter campaign to create a robot fighting league and were soon noticed by Autodesk, who helped with the funding to build at least one 15 foot giant robot! They were at Maker Faire this year showing off the Mark II Megabot and fired off one round into a junk car.... HOLY CRAP GIANT ROBOTS ARE REAL. We live in the future.
    FYI, the buzzing at the start of the video is from an air compressor that they had on. They turn it off eventually. Also, some guy tried to sneak in around the bars during the demo. Jerk.
    Anyway, enjoy!

    This thing vs the Kuratas? I don't care who wins, just as long as this becomes a sport to have giant robots from America fight giant robots from Japan. I would love for there to be a Tech Olympics like that.

      @TheHuntingPals 9 років тому

      I think the sport should spread across the world, and have rankers for tons of different regions, day or night. Also, major countries having their own brand mechs, that would be awesome.

      ***** lol now that i think of it, its exponentially easier to fix matches when your contestants are robots. If this gets that big, hopefully nothing like that happens.

      Azawa Medkour why is it easier? every little detail from each bolt to each wire is written down on paper, and the communications leave traceable, traces. lol. theoretically it could be harder too, if done in such that way.

    America creates the first Mech suit, and the first thing they do is challenge Japan.
    That's why I love America.

    It's even slower than I though... Kuratas is probably going to decimate it.

    It is cool but to go to a fighting show of two of these battleting, I'd rather wait for some more years until the robotics advanced more. Otherwise, I'd be taking a mega nap during the fight after falling asleep.

    In combat, how is Megabots Mark II going to be able to get up if knocked over?

    • @TFPTriggerFingerz
      @TFPTriggerFingerz 8 років тому

      +Doctor GrooVy it's 15,000 pounds. Good luck knocking it over. But.... there's nothing to stop the Kuratas from running up and boxing it with its arms or running circles around it while blasting it with rockets and gatlings because of how better the targeting and driving system is in it.

      Don't worry, if they get enough money, they'll seriously upgrade the mech.

    the audience is far more fearful regarding the implications of such a megabot, then the creators are...... lol

    Honestly, if this fought a tank, the tank would destroy this thing. It's cool, but it's super unwieldy right now. If it moved more nimbly or traveled faster, then I'd say this is viable.

      Devin Racelis how much is a modern tank? and how much is this? 125k$....a normal modern m1 class abrams costs $8 million, if any military took this seriously and poured as much budget then they would be worth comparing... the only problem is if they produced an actual warfaring 15ft tall robot it would just be a big and slow moving target... the only real use these robots would have in war is probably (at most) grid city and urban warfare as they bring heavy firepower in closed off areas. sorry for the rant, i couldn't hold the urge to voice this comment and i'm not usually one to reply on youtube.

      AznMarshmallow humvee already does everything that this robot can and even better, its faster it packs pretty good armor if its armored one, it can mount lots of different weapons, making this kind of robot for military will be huge waste of money.

      It's only a prototype, they will probably research and create better robots. The first guns used to be much worst than bows, but look at it now.

      Its true that one should never doubt innovation but this technology is still far from being completed. I'd love to see nations warring each other with giant robots but until the need for novel's worth of code just to keep the robot upright vanishes, this will be nothing more than a prototype of what could be. If you wish to compare the practicality of this versus a tank, you must consider that as soon as a robot falls over, its basically over. Even if the robot has self-righting capabilities, using them would be less than ideal during a combat situation. There is a suit being developed by DARPA called the exoskeleton that amplifies user power and is as responsive as its controller but if you wish to weaponize and build armor on it, well, physics is a bitch sometimes.

    I understand it's supposed to look like a rugged, battle hardened fighter, but you could atleast give it a nice coat of paint especially if your looking for investors and supporters

    You should make it cooler dude! this is a piece of metal plate, no beauty at all.
    If you just want to win the fight you probably just need to bring bazoka or use your military tank.
