Plywood is structurally weaker than soild wood when it comes to taking the loads frame members will get, that's why solid wood is the prefered here and most used., while plywood is good enough to be used at latching the solid frame members together. Also better putting nails and screws in soild wood than in the end/side of plywood. Anyway, it works with fully plywood frames too, one just can be a bit more carefull when handling and using the boat
I have positive experience with using 3M repositionable photo spray mount to fixate 1:1-paper plans to plywood. Super curious about your plywood Riva! What a great idea and approach! Professionally processed and treated hardwood has different advantages but would definitely consume three times the budget. It would be great if you would provide your plans to let your followers study them. Best wishes from Vienna!
I am very interested to see how you get on with this. I got as far as drawing frames in CAD using drawings I found online. Lofting the hull shape didn’t go too well around the rear of the cockpit where small errors caused the shape to distort. Are you concerned about screwing into end grain of plywood frames?
Mike, I am not concerned about screwing in to plywood end grain, as I over the years has developed a fastening technique for materials like plywood and MDF plates. I will show you later how you can do this without causing de-lamination in the plywood, but the principle is, using the material in its strongest direction. I hope that I with this channel can create an Riva Aquarama boat building network, as I believe there is lot of people out there, sharing my admiration for this particular boat - a hard to reach collectors item which in my case, is beyond my economically capabilities. Having that said, I also like to get my selves involved in the building process, which will be a great part of the fun.
Hi Alan, Wallpaper paste is probably better and it has bin on my mind. My concern though was using a waterbased glue. I use my beltsander to strip of the paper and that works fine
Hoi. Mooie Riva boot wat ja aan bouwen bent. Ik heb een vraagje .weer kan ik die tekening kopen. En is ook beschrijving er bij . Ik doe in modelbouw van mega jachten bouwen.
Thank you for you comment Edwin, I know it seems obvious the have parts CNC cut, but I want to demonstrate to my viewers, that you can build a boat at home, using very basic tools. So I didn´t even look for company nearby which potentially could cut them. After all it took only 10 hours to cut them with a jigsaw. I hope you will stay tuned. Next episode will out in a weeks time.
i would send the dxf to an online printservice an would let print it on an selfadhesive paper so i could transfer it easyli to the plywood . If i would have the dxf ;)
I Know you have said you will not share drawings you have purchased, but I would be willing to pay for the Autocad files you have created. Please let me know if you would be interested. Loving the channel!
I'm building a Riva Aquarama 27 feet 1972. Scale 1:2. Nice frames. I think that it's the good shape. You can see on my Facebook page my build of the boat.
I made this channel primarily to share the building approach I have chosen to build my long time dream project. At this point of time, I could only imagine sharing photos with other builders, who are building the equivalent boat model; using the same set of drawings as I purchased
Love it!!
Going to check one Thanks Eric

Thank´s for commenting Sebastian. I will be posting an update shortly.
very nice! it's going to be quite large, it seems!
Thank you good sir for my next project.
Hello any chance to have the files that you have used? I would like to do the same boat in Italy
When do we get the latest update?

Thanks, I will be looking out for your next episode.
I am sure that many people would love to own an affordable likeness of the Aquarama.
Could I suggest using wallpaper paste and wallpaper brush, it's easier to smooth out creases.
Hi Alan,
Wallpaper paste is probably better and it has bin on my mind. My concern though was using a waterbased glue. I use my beltsander to strip of the paper and that works fine
man if i made one of these in Brazil. i Will be the king of the sea kkkkkkkk

Even though I dont understan dutch, I guess you ask for the link to the drawings. Please see episode 1 where you can find the link.
Why not have the plywood cut by CNC?

I went to have a peek at your build! looking very nice, congratulations with the build. It's a lot of fun isn't it! Beautiful stuff man.
@@scififan698 Thank you for commenting. And yes, - it´s good fun and I wish i could spend all my time on the project. Pls. subcribe and stay tuned
I am going to buy the plans provided by Classic Wooden Boat Plans. Do you recommend a different set of plans?
What scale is your model? I apologise if you have stated but I didn’t see it…
It´s a 1:1 build. Length 8,3 meters and Beam 2,6
can you share files here?
