Thank you!
They are so similar that without comparisons, both do a great job.
IMO
Raw: DxO DeepPrime > ON1 NoNoise AI > Topaz DeNoise AI (No matter used for standalone or plugin)
Non-Raw: Topaz > ON1 > DxO
Even if Topaz is used as a PS plug-in, it is easy to produce strange bandings or patterns when editing "low light" photos.
For DxO software, I only recommend using DeepPRIME,
It's easy to use, and the results are great. (Especially low light photos)
I have trialed all 3 as standalone and I can't get ON1 or Topaz to get close to DxO DeepPrime, no matter what I do.
Thank you for zooming into the important details.
Thanks, Anthony, I have On1 and it was interesting to see this comparison.
I tried the new ON1 NoNoise 2023. Imho, works better than Topaz Denoise. New ON1 NoNoise has now more options to choose from than the old version. I worked in this software with RAW files from nikon D780 on ISO 20 000 with great results. As for me ISO 6400 is not a high ISO for a wildlife photography anymore. Only astrophotography is an area where the ON1 NoNoise should be used carefully. If you overdo it, some of the stars will disappear from the photo!
Testing denoising software should always be evaluated on the extreme ends, like an image shot at ISO 16000. This way noise is truly hammered in. Of course, some detail will be lost due to the noise, but this becomes a more valid test when comparing two software operations. Latest mirrorless cameras shot in RAW at 6400 ISO exhibit far less noise than the older, especially cropped sensor cameras. So let's get on the 1/4 mile racetrack to see who comes in first during a dust storm! LOL
But you didn't use auto on both. On Denoise AI you manually adjusted the colour noise slider. You did not use any manual adjustment on NoNoise though. Just sayin..
To me, nobody other than seriously demented pixel peepers would have any problem with an 8x10 print from that image without any work at all.
Lightroom would be perfectly adequate and would likely eliminate the minor color noise with default settings on import.
I think these programs should be compared only with low light images having nasty noise and artifacts in deep shadows where the camera struggled and failed.
Additionally, no matter how good any new offering is, a little patience will be rewarded by Adobe in soon to follow updates. Having Enhance in Lightroom now is a good example. Far more efficient for workflow and included in CC without additional expense.
On1 costed me €39. And a lot of times you will have to take photos with less light and have to increase ISO, thus increase noise. I've tried many times ridding noise with lightroom and adjusting sharpness, etc and alway it creates poor fuzzy images. Tried On1 NoNoise recemtly and it did a far superior job than lightroom. Cost and ability of this little powerful software is totally worth it. Can't waste a lot of time waiting on Adobe to come out with something like this when time is money.
This was good but you did use slider in Denise to correct the picture so you should do the same thing in Nonoise program other wise Denoise did not did the job in auto 🚘 mode….
@Sourov Deb Maybe I did but I just said what I saw in this video.
Really struggling with this. You made a point of not moving any sliders in NoNoise AI, you literally pointed them out and then did not use them. Yet when you came to DeNoise AI, you adjusted the colour noise slider. That's not a great comparison, sorry. If I was On1, I'd be asking you if the Topaz money truck was bigger? And no matter which way I adjust these two programs they still don't match up to DxO DeepPrime.
Seems like UA-cam "influencers" are the way to go if you want to persuade the public though.
woah thank you for pointing that out
I dissagre. I mean if program does it on auto, os it should do it very well. And this comparison, as he said isn't apples to apples so don't see any problems with that. And if he didn't move those sliders it wouldn't be apples to apples. Now another thing is that Sharpen Ai is very good ad reducing noise as well, but the image doesn't become blurry as it sometimes becomes with denoise.
@@birdsandscratch8331 You might disagree but you are wrong. Think about why he doesn't move the sliders on DeNoise? It's a bit like saying that we have two cars and we are going to have a drag race but I am only putting gas in one of them. A comparison is only valid on a level playing field, this is not level. And instead of believing someone who will benefit from convincing you it is better, try it out yourself for free. Download DxO DeepPrime, DeNoise and NoNoise and you will clearly see....
@@doghouseriley4732 I have denoise Ai, and I ahve tried dxo, but I didn't like it.
@@birdsandscratch8331 Are you allowed to tell us why?
Thanks Anthony. I like the fact that NoNoise will be incorporated later this year into On1 Photo Raw 2022, since I now use Photo Raw as my main photo editor.. So far I have been using Topaz a lot on my noisy images. I may not need to do so in future. The DNGs created by DeNoise are huge, whereas those created by NoNoise are about half the size. Where both programmes fall down is with very high ISO low light images with lots of colour noise. The colour noise turns to smudges in both DeNoise and NoNoise, and I have never seen any of the UA-cam gurus address that. I have been trying DxO Pure Raw on trial and it does a much better job.
I am glad you said it. For a while now, I have trialed all three and DxO DeepPrime is the only one that does not decimate the detail when removing colour noise. I guess their money truck is much smaller
The DeNoise AI Clear choice you had was set to High Noise Reduction and Low Sharpening. I find better results using Low Noise Reduction and High Sharpening for Clear option. These choices work for me most of the time unless I have quite a bit of noise and very high ISO and then Low Light is better. You should have tried other options in Clear before you chose Low Light.
If you look closely at the very tip of the snakes nose where it is slightly yellow it looks much more defined in Topaz Denoise AI. No noise AI shows it to be quite blurry and looses the detail to the background. On this showing it's safe to say I'll be sticking to Topaz.
Interesting comparison! Thanks!
Really?
Does it work on fuji raw files ?
When you find one you like, you have to delete the layer that you don't want right? Then you have to Flatten the Image right?
So I always notice that Denoise is not that good at removing color noise. I always see color patches, specially magenta and green patches on every picture I see that Denoise has been applied to, specially in astrophotography. DxO and NoNoise are superior in my opinion because of this. Also, the "progressive sharpening" technique applied by the sharpening module in NoNoise is very good and the "lens sharpness" adjustments in DxO photolab are also very good in my opinion, if you tinker with them, I think you would probably surpass Topaz Denoise in sharpness. Overall I think Denoise is behind those too products. Severe Noise is an improvement, but still not on par... and also, NoNoise is extremely fast!
I was hoping to see top layer set to difference mode to help see differences between the 2 ai products.DeNoise seemed slightly better.
In this example, Denoise did a bit better as it retained detail in the nostril that Denoise didn’t, but otherwise pretty equal. The thing about being better at working with Raw, for me noise reduction is a last step, like sharpening. I want to develop my Raws first. DxO is interesting in that it can create a linear Raw with lens correction applied, which means I should be able to keep editing in my Raw converter (Capture One), inc colour balance. The trouble with DxO in it’s current form is I shoot Fuji, and DxO does’t support X-Trans sensors, and haven’t for a long time.
So possibly Topaz is the better fit for me.
I think I am trying the On 1 at the moment but haven't managed to open it yet ! Always have fun with plug ins ! So thanks for the comparison still debating which one to go for !
Can you do a comparison where you try to dial in the best settings you can get when using both as a standalone program (so that they use the RAW files), and then compare them in Photoshop?
You mean an unbiased comparison? ON1 money truck is backing out fo the yard.
Great comparison Anthony. I’ve been using Topaz DeNoise AI for quite a while and it’s always given me great results. I’m curious to know if you plan on making a raw file comparison demo on both?
Just to add a point for the doubting thomasers. I used a 8000 iso from my walk around panasonic tz80 raw file and all noise was completely reduced without the artifact topaz sometimes gives. On1 say no noise is intended for straight raw files and I have found it works very well on nef files as well. Also would add 200% zoom is better when viewing on a small screen eg mobile phone unless you have eyes like an owl!
Excellent comparison! That appears to be a person in the snake's eye. Is that you taking the picture, Anthony?
Seriously, excellent but seriously flawed
No noise can edit as dng(raw) as a plug in.
Both look good, and as you said, both can be fine tuned and my guess is results will be image specific. Bottom line, I have DeNoise AI and see no reason to change. In addition, DeNoise AI gets constantly updated, whereas who know how often On1 NoNoise AI does. Thanks for the comparison.
I am sorry to say that I do not think this is an excellent comparison.
Topaz DeNoise AI is supossed to work great as shown here, on a layer, a pixel file, in Photoshop.
On1 NoNoise AI on the other hand is, at this point of its itteration, supposed and expected to work great, only in the raw stage, on it's own, outside of Photoshop, not on a pixel-file.
For a real comparison treat both as they are expected to work best.
Spot on. A disasterous comparison. I can hear the Topaz money truck reversing.........
The result Will be much better if you dont use the plug-in. Nonoise is much better When you are using a raw file and not a tiff file. As you are doing when you use the Photoshop plug-in.
All of them work better as a standalone. But then people might stop "renting" adobe products, OMG!
Thanks Anthony, this helps me a bit. NoNoise AI still befuddles me as when I try to open from Lightroom, none of my initial minor exposure edits copy over into the application, so I basically have to redo them. Maybe I am misunderstanding the product though, and I obviously need to do better at my camera settings, but I will keep trying the two. I like the idea of faster processing as some of my more problematic photos take a LONG time to process in DeNoise AI.
I can't even get NoNoise to open from LR. I am getting my money back.
@@gosman949 Anthony did make a video a few days ago that at least got me working from LR, but I have to do noise reduction as the first step in my processing. Also the ON1 claim about working best as a stand-alone app is accurate as far as I can see. I'm holding out hope they will make some improvements soon.
@@Kevin_Bemis I will look back at it later when they make improvements. Meanwhile I continue to shoot mostly at 100 iso!
@@gosman949 Trial DxO DeepPrime, take my word for it
Thank you Anthony, another good comparison. I did a similar test on a variety of images, using the same layer principle. The crazy thing is on some images Topaz wins, on others On1. I am not a Mac user and find On1 is a lot faster. So for now I will use both and pick the best. To be honest I do my edits on Lightroom converted to jpeg images, that could make a difference.
This was helpful
OMG this video is too lengthy and borderline useless. TLDW: they’re equally good.
