This must be the coolest job on earth
It is pretty awesome, but it takes a lot of effort to turn brickfilming into a career.
So creative. Love these behind the scenes videos. Great job, It really does look pretty sweet.
Really interesting and impressive seeing how many layers of composting you use to create the final shot! I find it hard to keep track of more than 4 characters at a time.
Can you make a video where it tells you how to use green screen?
Dude you are so talented! Thanks for sharing this with your adience. I was speechless when i saw the video and now i habe an idea of how pro you compose the scene, keep it up
So much work for a scene that only goes for a few secs. I know what that is like! A real pain in the butt to move 50 army men at the same time.
You must have a dope sheet to check off which directions each character is moving and to keep track of them all, even with playback in Dragon there are some insanely complicated movements to keep track of.
How do you plan the composites so well so that they blend together? Thanks! : )
Can you create a tutorial for duplicating? I really want to make a huge army!
That’s pretty easy, just select the track and press “Ctrl D” for pc or “Command D” for Mac😊.
How do you do it on mobile?
@@scoutanimations. scam im guessing
@@freebrickstudios2132 in most mobile editing apps there is a “copy” button
Awesome! I'm going to try to do the same kind of thing with my up-coming Hobbit movie coming out this April! I hope I don't fail with it xD I'm fairy new to after effects, but i know how to do some awesome stuff with it already!
GREAT MAKING OF!!!
I love watching these behind the scene vids!
I have to get a new camera and I'm wondering is there any type you would recommend for stop motion animation?
Awesome shot! I think that it took a "little" while to render all...
It's done now! (I Thought I might as well it's been 4 years since you commented that)
I re-watched the actual video of the retelling of The Hobbit over and over again to see everything that was going on in this shot.
Really love all of your videos and stop motion work!
40 hrs for one shot, that is nuts, but awesome dedication.
Man how do you keep track of so many characters walking at the same toms and remember who taking a step and who is in mid step?
I ask because it is always a tricky thing for me. I rarely will do large group shops with more than 2 or 3 characters because it is hard to make them all look fluid in their movement
My software allows me to playback a shot I am working on, so I can just take a look at my characters to see what they're doing.
mine too. its more of a discipline thing I guess
BrotherhoodWorkshop what oftware
BananaMan Dragon Frame
wow!! My appreciation for your art just went way up!!!
0:25 the best one ever!
You work so HARD!!!
You are so amazing. You are one of my greatest inspirations for my channel! Thanks for being great.
I know it's a lot to ask but it would be very helpful to see a more detailed video of how you go about compositing in After Effects. That piece of software is about as powerful as anything commercially available to film makers, and maybe especially animators, but as you know it has a learning curve that's more of a 90-degree angle. Anything a little more detailed would be most appreciated.
I'm really learning a lot from these BTS vids.
Have any plans for some Bionicle brickfilms in the future?
I can't wait for his new lego gardens of the galaxy mini movie to come out
Wait so each of those Orks in the helms deep video were separate layers? Wow.
Hi. I know you maybe said it somewhere. but I will ask you. What programme do you use?
You are awesome and amazing. I could never be as good as you!
Goblins and Orcs are different creatures.
you behind the scenes videos are awesome!!! Goblins. More goblins...
great Video....great work..such patience....I would probaly smash a couple sets in frustration in only a couple hours in...and have to start over....we love the behind the scenes.....
Do you recommend a free program to use greenscreen? I'm planning to do a remake of Master And Commander; The Far Side of the World. I got the ships, and want to recreate a fight scene when the HMS Surprise confronts the Acheron. There's this big scene of 3 seconds when you see the Acheron opening fire on the Surprise, further away. That scene I want to make with green screen, but I want to learn it at first and have a simple cheap program to use.. Got recommendations?
u r so talented, I love all ur videos
Hey man I am a huge fan of your videos! I know you're really busy but I was wondering if you could give me some tips. I have just recently "dipped my toes" into green screening and I could use some advice.
You sir, are a genius!
I think it would be cool if you could make lego videos that is like 10 minutes long and maybe you could make hole series of episodes that way.
It should probley take more time but i can wait :)
Question: I ussually hear a song or a funny video from another ipad while making a stop motion. Should I close the ipad or its okay to do that?
from my experience, after effcts is a program that very difficult to use.it makes the computer very slow and makes very large files(30 secs=800 mb).and in priemre ,it's difficult to use the more i add layers lenth and effects,
do you have same problems and how do deal with them?
Where do you get all the orcs and goblins from? Do you buy the just the minifigures, if so where, or do you keep buying the same set repeatedly. Also, can you make some videos with the new lego The Hobbit the Battle of the Five Armies sets?
Can u do a behind the scenes video of showing how you make your clay grounds for your videos
WHAT animations will u do when lego lotr and hobbit sets are not intresting anymore? I mean when lego stops middle-earth legos?
what equipment do you use? I intend to make some stop motion movies, but I do not know what I need the camera and apps and stuff.
He uses Adobe After Effects for compositing, Final Cut Pro 6 for sound design, Dragonframe to put it together, a canon 60D and just a standard tripod
Thx!!!
that must bee a lot of work! i appreciate you and what you do and enjoy the videos. thank you so mush! more videos and behind the scenes ,please! ;D
Is there going to be an side by side version of the trailer battle of the rice armies like u did with the desolation of smaug?? Would be awesome.
Hey there, I'm getting interested in animation....just one question...what software do you always use? Adobe Premier Pro?
Some dwarfs some bats some goblins some goblins and some goblins... too much goblins
Can you tell me what is the program for greenscreen-ing? I'm learning some stop-motion technics now.
How do you make the lighting look like it's night time? I've been looking for that answer for a long time.
When is your guardians of the galaxy stop motion going to be out?
You make it look easy!!! XD its obviously not though. I love your animations, they're so clever and amazing!!! Keep on doing it!
What would you recommend for low-budget lighting? (I mostly use natural light, lamps, and iMovie.) :)You rock keep up the awesome work!!!
How do you manage to key out the studs on the ground?
***** The characters were in strong enough contrast to everything else that I was really able to crank up the tolerance.
Ah right. Also have you ever tried using the plugin Keylight?
I was wondering what editing system you use. It looks really cool and I may want to purchase it so if you could tell me, that would be awesome :D And also EPIC VIDEO!!!!!!!!! :DDDDDDDD
Check out his about page.
It's a really great video, but I find it a shame that there's no time to see all of your intricate scenes as it goes so fast and is so zoomed out in a few areas. Perhaps you could upload an album or clips of individual scenes that you used in the video?
what is that app you are making those stop motions ?
cause ı will make my own lego lord of the rings stop motion movie.
This is sick! Awesomely sick! Love it :-)
Iv'e been doing stop motion for a year and I just started compoziting and it turned out pretty sweet and I was wondering if you would recomend any free compozoting sortware. I curently use gimp and hitfilm for my comps.
How can I get a good enough Green Screen and a Green Screen program that is cheep?
Great video
But can you show how to light and set up a green screen for Legos , I am having trouble with it
Thanks
Which is the program you use to make animations . I will start my lego and megabloks wow animations and I need trick and tips to help me.
Wow, nice work!
Which fps do you use in your animations? I'm used to video editing but no with stop-motion...
His camera is a Canon 60D. The software he uses are Dragonframe for the animation, Final Cut Pro 7 for the editing and sound design, and After Effects for the VFX. The clay he uses is Van Aken. Lastly he shoots at 24 fps. Sorry if there are unnecessary facts in there this comment is copied and pasted so I don't have to retype the same thing over and over again.
sweet this really helps
What app/website or something did you use for doubling the bats?
When will your next Star Wars film be?
nice photos on your Facebook page!
What software do you use? Anyway great video
You are awesome! How long have you been making films?
15 years
I have a few questions on your stop motions, what kind of camera and software do you use? Also, I have noticed that sometimes see through studs will light up. How do you do that?

thanks!
What's the biggest and hardest animation project you have ever done
Awesome bro
Yeah, really awesome.
OMG. You. Are. Awesome!
What do you prefer?
Nikon or Canon for stop motion and General photography and why?
I've used both and generally preferred Canon
BrotherhoodWorkshop please make a stop-motion tutorial video for beginers
Love your vids and also what software are you using when your making all of those bats fly.what software allows you to copy that over and over again and how did u combined all of those different shots together to get the big epic war
After Effects. Sony Vegas is capable if doing it to, but ae is easier apparently.
ok thanks
the goblin commander that you taking is bolg ? because he was crushed by beorn
can make a tutorial how to green screen in after fx because it looks like you are doing that a different way than all the other tutorials on youtube
I wish I could do that stuff.
What settings do u have in your camera
Nice work!
I wish I could do that. My computer is not very powerful though.
Fantastic!
I know you guys are into Middle Earth but do you think you guys could make the Avengers:Age of Ultron trailer in lego please?
RunRobotRun911 HE DID YAYAYAYAYAYYA
What kind of green screen do you use?
I saw that the video quality is better that you older video...
What Canon did you use for the video "The Hobbit In 72 Seconds" ?
Thanks a lot ! :)
The T2I
Thanks a lot Kevin, your videos are awesome !!! Continue in that way :) !!!
AWESOME!
And can you make a video showing how you make your printed backdrops
How long does it take you to make a 1 minute animation?
60 hours per one minute about.
Are your picture for the backdrop done with a special printer?
I usually have them printed from Costco (a store that does lots of different stuff for cheap, including printing). They cost like $20 each.
Gotcha, are they done in hd normally?
how is the thhing you plug to your computer for taking each picture called? so that you don't have to touch the camera
It comes with Dragonframe.
Can you look at my videos and see what I should improve on? And where did you get the moveable small legs?
Also, how do you make the links at the end of each video show parts of other videos?
do you have any ideas for cheap, good programs?
so basically the whole video was on the BOOK ?!?!? wow
Hey, just wondering: I know you do Lego versions of trailers. Are you planning on doing one for Avengers Age of Ultron? That would be awesome! Love your work!
What camera do you use? Canon? I want to get one for stop motion and i don't know which would be best. Thaanks
Yeah, he uses the Canon T2I ;)

thanks so much!
Do you voice the characters first and shoot or the other way around ?
Usually the other way around.
How do you make the water in the Hobbit 2 Trailer in Mirkwood?
How much money do you think you have spend on your stop motion work? You are awsome by the way!
2 or 3 thousand. But I've made a lot more than that.
+BrotherhoodWorkshop do you work at any external studio? Have you ever done it? I love this channel man you're amazing
Where do you get those mini bendy legs
you are my hero
Thanks so much! That is so cool how you did all that! Do you use After Effects for adding sound and all?
I edit and do the sound in Final Cut. After Effects is just for visual effects.
BrotherhoodWorkshop
Thanks! Do you know if Final Cut is available still? If it isn't what do you recommend?
Bloombunchboys Bloom I recommend getting Priemiere Pro. It's in the same subscription package as After Effects, so if you get one you get both! I personally prefer buying software to getting a subscription, but unfortunately that isn't an option :(
BrotherhoodWorkshop
Thanks! I have the package, so I should have it. I've been animating for years, and just did my first bit of composting last night. It turned out pretty good!
what program do you use to do this?
