Outstanding! I heard for first time, quite accidentaly about Kohonen maps during my bachelor studies in computer-science/robotics. Now I am in Masters degree studies (in computer engineering) and have to come up with a semester's project work in Deep Learning study course under constrainded that a project is machine-learning related. This and other videos on SOMs convinced me finally to take a risk of not being fully compatible with the study course and still make this lesser known and specialized neural network architecture as part of study focus point - Kohonen maps seem very intriguing. Kohonen self-organizing maps seem like a hidden gem in machine learning :|
