Hi! The CMaj7 in the 1st bar should be C6, because the melody hit the root. Am I correct?

Is there a way to get the music for this to practice. I’ve been trying to find this song. Also newer to piano is this the best and simplest to start on for this song?

Great video!! I've been trying to get this tune down for a while. What's your recommendation in terms of improvisation?

Thanks very much! For improvising I'd first start by looking at the chord tones, the 1/3/5/7 of each chord, and seeing which notes change and by how much between chords. This will help give you a line through the harmony that also describes it - e.g. G on Cmaj7, G# on E7, G on A7, F on D-7.
Another approach would be to insert licks from your transcriptions into the tune - on dominant chords, or on V-I cadences - hope that helps!

Hey I’m sorry if I’m speaking too fast and I could be wrong but why are you playing a Cmaj7? On other sheet music for this same song, they almost all say to play a “C6” chord. Or does it matter whether you use C6 or Cmaj7?

Great point Nick! My reasoning is to try and have continuity through all my content, so I always refer chord I as a major 7 chord to reinforce that chord I is always a major chord in a major key. I didn’t want to get bogged down in extensions too early on so didn’t bring up the 6 chord - you’re absolutely right though, it’s usually tweaked to a major 6 chord!

@@TheJazzPursuit ok thanks! Also, have you made a video, or do you know a video I could find that goes through what scales to use when improvising over this chord progressions? I’m currently using the C Ionian for the C6 chords, D Dorian for Dm7 chords, G mixolydian for G7 chords, A minor for Am7 chords. (All of these scales is really just C major scale). First of all, are they correct scales to use? Secondly, what scales do I use for E7, A7 and D7, and also the C section when it goes to Fmaj7 and Fmin7 and Em7? Regards, Nick

Hey Nick, no I haven’t made a video on this sort of thing yet, but I am planning on! The scale choices are correct and for the extra dominant chords you listed you could just play mixolydian of each chord if you want a scale. However, I think a great approach is through licks! Sure you should practice through the progression using the modes, but I found that you can end up sounding quite scalic. If you take a lick (one a time) and drop it in as many places as you can through the chord profession that will help you sound fluent quicker, whilst also learning a lot whilst you’re at it!

hello, i'm not sure how the rhythm goes when you play the chords on the left hand. eg at 10:20 and other places, what kind of rhythm are you playing for the chords in the left hand ? thanks :)
