Speaking as a one man who’s done his share of fishing. You may come to realize that days like this are really a blessing. I ended up steelhead fishing, I’ve had a lot more fishies days then visa-versa. One of my favorite memories is losing a nice fish after an epic fight, swimming down the Deschutes, etc. finally I had the fish right where I’ve landed many, when…wrapped me around a rock. I was wet and cold and tired, it was dark and I began laughing like crazy, standing alone in the canyon at night. I can still smell the sage and hear the river calling me back yet again.
Welcome to the club! I felt it was important to post this fishless video because this is reality for many of us and often. It's about the exploration anyway, fish are just a bonus :))
I think its important that folks post videos like this from time to time. Most days for most of us aren't bangers and you can learn a lot on tough days. Thanks for sharing Dan!
Like the old saying goes, If you have to catch fish to enjoy fishing, you are not going like fishing. Some of the best fishing experiences do not involve catching fish.
Brother, I feel your frustration. Some days, I have gotten so tangled, lost so many rigs or flies or gotten snagged on trees and bushes that it seems I should just not be fishing that day. It makes those days where you can’t seem to do anything wrong all the better. Thanks for the post and reminding me how humbling this sport can make me.
@ and the man responds! Would love to see you on the river here someday. Had a great return last year so hoping for a repeat…if you haven’t ever been, let me know if you ever wanted to head this way and I would happily show you around.
I always tell my wife that I am off to “ practice “. Practicing eventually brings catching. It is always interesting to go for hours and then get multiple strikes/ hook ups. You got to keep going and keep practicing the good form and techniques to be ready.
You still have a smile and a gleam in your eye that says, “I’m still blessed!” Save the catching for another day. I’m guessing, if you’re like me, you still learned a bunch.
Thanks for sharing. Catching fish on a new stream vs getting skunked on a familiar stream. Both experiences expand our awareness. Saw some bugs flying in the beginning of your video, was wondering how cold it was.
Yesterday I was at a new spot, and a beautiful brown trout kept jumping up out of the water right next to me. I did everything I could think of, changed up my rig, moved, and more. He did not want to play. Neither did anyone else. I left after 2 hours.
Cool, now we know you are a mortal like the rest of us! I tangled into so many different bushes and shrubs at once, I had to take a survey to figure out which one to start swearing at first...
Part 2! The video I was waiting for 🤣🤣 I literally just got back from fishing…… totally skunked ….. nothing. Still had a good time. Freezing to death. Better than working any day! Love watching the real stuff. Thanks Dan
Dude! Long drive for that I'm guessing? Looks more like a JUNE spot? It's steelhead season! (or Wabbit) Hit a coastal stream or lower Grand Ronde being you seem like a Warsha tonian!😊 I'll be watching for that buddy!! Fish Ooown! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼 PS,,, Any day you make it home, is a good day of fishing 🎣

Like the old saying goes, If you have to catch fish to enjoy fishing, you are not going like fishing. Some of the best fishing experiences do not involve catching fish.
Absolutely! It's more about the experience for sure
When I get home after not catching anything I lie and tell my wife I caught several fish and I don’t need to explain to you why.
It's days like this that make you appreciate the days when you catch. Days like this are still beautiful.

People need more of this realistic content! Thank you
You bet, trying to keep it real for sure
Yup, I’ve had my share of those days. That’s what beer is for.
Exactly!
or weed
Swinging flies for winter steelhead on the North Umpqua….its a lot of work for maybe a couple fish a season. Thanks for keeping it real, Dan
Yep, that's the reality of it!

The process is just as important as the outcome!

It was a tough day...but still fun! And yep, I always learn something out there!
Thanks for sharing. Catching fish on a new stream vs getting skunked on a familiar stream. Both experiences expand our awareness.

You're exactly right. It's part of the experience for sure. It was pretty cold, highs only in the upper 30's

Sometimes it just doesn't happen, that's fishing! I saw only one fish on this day too
I'm in Colorado Dan, but I've been there.
Beautiful place.
It really is!
That’s fishin’. Still looked like a good day:)
Totally :))
Cool, now we know you are a mortal like the rest of us! I tangled into so many different bushes and shrubs at once, I had to take a survey to figure out which one to start swearing at first...
It is one of those days!😮
It was rough...but still fun. Got great exercise!
Dang that looks like some narrow and tough work for fishing =)
Yep, it can be challenging, but worth it!
I think I need to ease up on myself. That looks like one of my fishing trips 😂.
It happens often for sure, catching fish is just a bonus :))
Part 2! The video I was waiting for 🤣🤣
I literally just got back from fishing…… totally skunked ….. nothing. Still had a good time. Freezing to death. Better than working any day!
Love watching the real stuff. Thanks Dan
It doesn't always work out for sure, but still better than the best day at work :))
I just got back from one of those days and watching this consoled me
Can totally relate.
Happens often for sure

That is a typical day on a creek
Crazy how a section can be loaded full of fish on one trip...and on the next, nothing!
Fish on!!!!!

Evert season those problems.:-) I hate barbed wire more than anything on Earth! Best wishes. :-)
I hear you - it's the worst!
That’s why it’s called Fishing….not Catching!

Let's hope not! But maybe...
