The 308 X has three Display modes.
Photo with Ambient, Cordless Flash and Corded Flash Modes.
HD_Cine for DSLRS and Mirrorless Cameras. Allowing you to select your shutter speed, frame rate, and illuminance mode.
And Cine Mode For Cinema Cameras. Allowing you to select your frame rate, Shutter angle, and illuminance mode as well
Accuracy is the legacy of the 308 series.
The 308X is able to measure light from 0 to 19.9 EV at ISO 100.
Your exposures are guaranteed to be spot on with this meters repeat accuracy within plus or minus 0.1 EV.
You can also match your L-308X to another meter or your camera’s exposure by calibration compensation function with the range of plus or minus 1 EV in 0.1 step increments.
A clutter free interface, and ergonomic design make the 308 a breeze to use.
The Sliding lumisphere reveals a lens with 40 degree reception angle for reflected light measurement.
The optional lumidisc enables you to measure the light ratio or the exposure of a flat subject.
And as always the single AA battery will get you through many shoots.
We’ve included a Backlit LCD screen that automatically turns on in dim lit conditions under EV 5.

What is the difference between X and X-U versions? There seems to be two designations on the market yet they share the same manual...?
X is the international version and the X-U is the version sold in the USA. There is no operational difference between the two.

Hello. I have a Sekonic L308S and have been using it without any problems for a few months. I use it with my Godox AD300 Pro and my Godox V1. I use it in Cordless flash mode and recently, it has stopped giving me a reading when my flash fires - itstill shows F0. My usual settings are ISO100 and 1/125 or 1/160, shooting with my Nikon D750. I have tried replacing the battery but it still doesn't give me a reading in cordless flash mode. It dsoes work in ambient mode. Any idea what could be going wrong?

how do you properly use the reflected metering? where do you point the meter?
When using the build in 40 degree lens you would point it the same direction you camera lens in pointing.

No its not like spot metering. if you aimed it at a perfect 18% gray wall it would give you proper exposure. It really to get a rough exposure of a scene. At 40 degrees and no view finder it really is an added feature to get a rough exposure of a scene.
TimothyJ. Usually a spot meter has a very narrow angle of view, say from 1 to 5 degrees.
Does it works in hss mode?
The L308x does not support HSS metering. Only the L-858D-U does.
I have the Godox AD600 Pro flash
and XI trigger, can you please confirm if this flash meter works with this flash? f not what Sekonic Flash meter will work with this system?
We do not currently have a solution but are in process of developing a solution for the L-858D

No the L-308X doesn't have radio transmitter functionality.

Mamiya Cs are legitimately the professional tools for commercial works back in the days.
Can it meter if there is a pre-flash, TTL.
Hi Carl, no you cannot meter TTL. The purpose of using the meter is to measure manually. TTL is making decisions based on what light reflects back to the camera from that Pre-flash based on the camera settings and overall lighting condition. There is no reason to meter TTL. Remember they TTL stands for Through The Lens and is metering on a reflective premise. When using a light meter you are measuring incident light reading or light that is falling on the subject and not reflecting off the subject. Hope that helps!
Fred Windholz not entirely true. The reason I asked is that some after market triggers systems like the yongnuo 622n require the Nikon flash to be in TTL mode even though I am controlling the flash output manually. There is a pre-flash in this situation not allowing me meter with my L-358.
If the speed light is put in manual mode while attached to the trigger then there I can not change the flash output from the transmitter. I know this is more of a yongnuo issue as I've already posted a review of the issue on YT.
My understanding is that Sekonic does have more expensive meters that will meter TTL.
You missed the point of Carls question. The point he was really asking after was pre-flash, which unfortunately the meter does get confused by. No means for the L-308X to ignore the pre-flash.

Adding to Jenny Gavin-Wear's comment, I also have a 308s-u. I thought I was getting a light meter that could trigger the flash as I've seen many people use in videos. I'm using a Godox trigger with Godox AD200 and other similar flashes. I have two Godox triggers, the X1 for Sony and the latest from Flashpoint.
Without spending hundreds more, does anyone here know how I could trigger the flash from the light meter?
I use a sync cable attached to the flash unit.
Press the mode button to move to corded flash. Connect the cable to the flash unit and exposure metre. Take reading. You will need a fairly long sync cable.

Hi Jenny, there are features besides the LCD touch screen such as cine settings and radio options with select L478 models. One additional feature is that you can also measure ISO by setting the Shutter and Aperture. So if you want to shoot at a certain Shutter and Aperture you can get the correct ISO for the perfect exposure rather than guessing it. This can be very useful in certain situations. Fred Windholz I'm using a 308S already. I know about the 478, can't justify the expense.
What is the cine feature please?
The Cine is for video. If you are content with your 308s then there is no reason for you to upgrade.
