  • I built a record cabinet for my daughter out of beat up pallets and leftover scraps from around the shop. I hope you enjoy watching as much as i enjoyed building it. I really like upcycling pallets and other old timber. It may not be much, but its a few less scraps in the dump.
    Welcome to SB Woodworks! I appreciate your time and want to give the best value in my projects and videos that i can. If you think ive done so, please consider subscribing!

      @@SBWoodworks750 I am Danish and we Scandinavians do tease each other a lot. You will see, if a Swede sees this, he/she will respond to my joke, and tell some lies about the Danes 🙂
      Norwegian and Swedes are in the big teasing league. You can find many funny Norwegian/Swedish videos on the subject.

    Fantastic build it really does look amazing you must be so pleased with how it turned out and your wife. I was really unsure when you stained the top but to see the change when you finished it with the wood looking so shiny i changed my mind and thought that is fantastic, thanks for sharing

      Appreciate the comment! I really debated staining any of it. Using pallet wood or scraps sometimes makes getting some contrast in a piece, limited. I am very pleased with how it turned out though. Thanks again!

    Great looking piece! I love those curved ends. Have you thought about doing a big, chunky hand tool workbench from reclaimed lumber? I'm betting the algorithm would love that. Plus, you'd have a great bench to work on!

    Excellent build and vid! I noticed that you use green tape rather than the old school blue painter's masking tape. You even used it a a light weight temporary clamp to make the bend in the curved ends AND most impressively it was strong enough to hold the pieces long enough to get them in the real clamps. Is there a particular reason you chose this tape, if you don't mind sharing.

    • @SBWoodworks750
      @SBWoodworks750  Місяць тому

      Honestly, it was probably on sale when I needed tape! 😂 I do like it better for the tape and super glue trick. Find it comes off cleaner and easier. I've got the old blue in the shop as well though. I tend to use the blue on smaller templates and stuff I really need to stay in place while cutting. For most applications the green works just fine though and it is considerably cheaper.
      Thanks so much for watching and the kind words!

    how did you calculated the round corners for the angles and amount you needed

    • @SBWoodworks750
      @SBWoodworks750  Місяць тому +1

      Hey, thanks so much. I used a stave calculator to get the widths of the boards. The math's for the angle is 360 ÷ number of boards(40) ÷ 2 or 4.5 degrees

    I'm not a big fan of pallet wood furniture but I'm very impressed with your cabinet. The only thing I didn't like was the way that you attached the door panels to the door. I thought those blocks detracted from the piece. Overall though I think you did a good job. Well done.

    • @SBWoodworks750
      @SBWoodworks750  Місяць тому +1

      Thanks for watching. I agree, the panel attachments weren't an ideal solution. I finished the panels and doors separately and didn't want to try and glue them in after the fact. Hindsight.... Thanks again!

    is it ok (necessary) to not plane the pallet boards first? just thickness? nice vid man!!

    • @SBWoodworks750
      @SBWoodworks750  Місяць тому +2

      Thank you very much. I plane everything just to ensure solid glue ups and makes sanding easier later down the line. So not 100% necessary but definitely helps along the way. I hope I answered that right.

    • @SBWoodworks750
      @SBWoodworks750  Місяць тому +1

      I use a stave calculator. There's a few on the web. The angle is easy enough 360 divided by the number of pieces, divided by 2. The width of each piece is beyond my math's though. Lol! Thanks so much for the comment. Appreciate ya.
