I once got to do the James part of the City Lights duet with Liv. A perfect night, sold out crowd at lovely Cain Park in Cleveland. He's so gifted that he made us actually sound good despite me. Such a thrill. I'll never forget it.
I am truly thankful that I get to hear a song like this. Exploring JT’s songs was the start, then a song from his brother. Never expected to have a whole meal of fresh and healthy foods serve for me in this era, genuinely thankful.
I am the most rabid, devoted James Taylor fan you'll ever meet, both as a member of the listening public and as a pro musician of 20 years. I think he's in the top 5 American composers/singers/guitarists/recording artists - ever. But Livingston Taylor's song, "LIfe is Good," is, in fact, as good as anything James has ever done. Especially the first stanza - "...asks his old dad..". The guitar work is fantastic, the chord pattern, ditto. Not many songs stir me to tears, but this one does.
I sat next to Liv at a dinner at Harvard about a year ago, and he is truly a marvelous human being and performer. He said something to me, which has stuck with me ever since: Tenacity trumps talent always. How wise!
He is such a wondeful singer and performer and a great teacher. I was so fortunate to be able to take one of his classes last summer. Thanks for sharing his music.
I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting and speaking with Livingston on several occasions. He is one of the kindest, most engaging, and least pretentious people I have ever met. I've been a huge fan since he first broke into the scene. I listen to his music frequently, and am striving to learn as many as I can (being a guitarist/singer myself). Michael - Jim Thorpe, PA
I will be always appreciative of Apple Records and the Beatles for discovering brother James and making us aware of this wonderful musical family. I bought Apple Records first product and I'd love to add some more Liv Taylor music to the library. Some people don't like "ice cream chords" or mellow singing and lyrics, but I do.
I did too! I did a 5 week summer program there and he gave a great master class. It was more of a concert/lecture and I didn't get to really "work with him" but I still remember a lot of his really insightful songwriting tips. The man's a joy to watch and learn from.
This has been so far, the very worst year of my life. The world has shook, the wind has blown, and I have to admit, life is good! This song has a lot of meaning if you truly listen to it. Give it all to others and it all comes back to you!
This past July, I went to Berklee for a weekend to participate in the Performance Workshop. Meeting Mr. Taylor, and hearing him sing in person was the most soothing experience of my life.
I’m sure it’s been frustrating for Livingston being in James’ shadow. I think Livingston has never gotten the credit that he should. Very tslented man. I had th pleasure of seeing him in concert seversl years ago. If you enjoyed this and you get a chance to see him live DO NOT PASS IT UP. He is ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS! He engages with the audience quite a bit between songs. I laughed so hard that I cried. I truly did not want the evening to end!!!
emarsh3b I’d never heard of him until today. I’m 23 and have been listening to James pretty much my whole life. I just spent some time reading his Wikipedia page, thinking the same thing... Livingston says it’s not the case at all. He says he’s super proud of his brother and that James wouldn’t want his career and he wouldn’t want James’.
Been to so many shows by both of them. Liv’s shows are intimate. He walks around and talks to his fans. James’ shows are too big for that opportunity, but something tells me that he’d love to have that opportunity. Trade offs.
What a wonderful talent in his own right! I think what attracts me to all of the Taylor's music is the honesty that shines through each song. Liv, James and Ben are all wonderful musicians. All three should tour together at least once. That would be great!
I love Livingston Taylor. He has some great albums and many wonderful songs he wrote. I had a college radio show for 25 years and people would always call in and ask, "who was that????" He's a joy.
OK, so this is like the 10th time in a row I'm listening to this......and I can't stop grinning and saying wow, wow, wow! I never hear of Liv before and I'm so glad to have stumbled onto this posting......thank you Sally! I recently ran into a former employee who used to be in a bad place in life which caused her problems. She has since found her "good place" and is damn proud of what she's doing! I'm proud of her too and can't wait to share this with her.
There are so many talented musicians/groups/bands "out there"--I rarely go out of my way to see any particular performer more than once. BUT...I'm on my way to see Livingston for the 4th time this week [on 6/4/14] in Berkeley. Take the opportunity and go see him live. He just makes me so darn happy to be alive! THAT'S a gift beyond the songwriting and musicianship! I often repeat one of his lines: Life is a one word test, and the answer is "YES!"
I didn't even know JT had a brother, until I read a mention of him on a JT guitar forum:) His voice is strikingly similar to James. Interesting to find this.
James has two brothers still living: Hugh and Livingston. Their old brother Alex passed away. Sister Kate is likely still laughing. Here's a treat if you've never seen it before: ua-cam.com/video/PDL-dvhDou4/v-deo.html
Hmmm - I don't think vonhorn29 was saying that life is an American treasure - he said "Liv," which I'm thinking means Livingston. And yep, if you've ever heard this fellow live, boy, he's an EXTRAORDINARY performer!

Country music simply has a better perspective of time and relationships. This is a fine example of this.

A favorite Livingston Taylor classic. LIFE IS GOOD!

I never get tired of that foot joke

I've seen Livingston Taylor twice in PA in a outdoor park setting, I met him both times, he's really a great person.

"Get Out Of Bed" - Livingston's signature song,
AFAIAC.
Simply Blown Away! You Go, Livingston!
Wow.. a very talented family...Beautiful
Life is good! I totally relate! Too bad for you

I'm typically more of a hard rock guy but I really liked this! Seems like a really chill guy to
I first saw him at a concert at George Washington University in 1971. Wonderful voice.
I think I love this guys music.
OMG ! How I do love this song and Liv´s stuff!!
thanks Liv.
a fav Livingston Taylor song!
Keep this song in rotation. It is perfect!
TAYLOR MOJO TRULY STRONG!......I HAVE SPOKEN.
Great entertainer! I love Liv! See him every year in Ny at the Crier. awesome
This is a great song!
Man, he's really good. And I swear there are certain points in this vid that he looks just like James, or at least reminds me incredibly of him.
met him at a party in Boston. Great talented guy!
Great song! And you sing and play it so well.
Your so lucky,I would give anything to have a conversation with Livingston taylor!
He plays his D chords the same way James does. Unique sound.
Amazingly similar "voiceprint" to his brother!
I didn't even know JT had a brother, until I read a mention of him on a JT guitar forum:) His voice is strikingly similar to James. Interesting to find this.

Woow !!....Talented ! Must run in the family ?
I am not shy . .I have learn to enjoy my own company. Many so called friends bring drama to the table

Rocket
Excellent!
reminds of me James Taylor
Liv is brilliant!
love it!
Can you imagine the music potential at a Taylor family get together?
Hmmm - I don't think vonhorn29 was saying that life is an American treasure - he said "Liv," which I'm thinking means Livingston. And yep, if you've ever heard this fellow live, boy, he's an EXTRAORDINARY performer!
@ModelARider Beautful, isn't it, to get the point? Man is brilliant.
Whoa! I never knew!
Hi Liv we are lovin IT!
i met him over the summer at a tour of berklee.
❤❤❤❤
I would love to hear him sing Cats in the Cradle!
Or Brother? Son?
Oh yeah, brother!
Always like him much better than his brother....
He’s a voice teacher at Berklee College of Music
@shredftw seems JT taught this fella guitar :)
"Folk rains over country". That gave me my laugh of the day. The word that you are attempting to use in that context is "reign".
@moonelixir I'm thinking it's the other way around.
@moonelixir : I'm thinking it's the other way around.
yes he is. definetly more technical
The poor mans James Taylor..hehe. just kidding
hes a better player than james though
Poor man's James Taylor. Good but derivative.
i think he talks to much, but i like this song :)
well I'm not hanging out with you dude....you seem like a bummer. Liv is an American Treasure
