Korg's N5 new millenium synth still sounds great!

- Time wears away at the sound of all synths. Everything at some point will sound dated, and some will occasionally have a revival. 25 years post-release, though, I think the N5 from Korg is still very much alive. As long as you don't crave a good piano sound...
My first keyboard. Still have it . Mad some good jams with that
This keyboard is wonderfully programmable
If you program it you will get much more usable and pleasant pianos and other sounds in performance mode
Place a piano on channel 1 and pan hard left. Place another one on channel 2 and pan hard right. Place a third piano, pad, EP or strings on channel 3 and keep it center, then add exciter and reverb and the sounds will have a stereo character and sound expressive
I have the N5ex which has a scaled down version of the stereo piano sample on the Triton and is much better. I've programmed the heck out of it in performance mode to get the best pianos and electric pianos as I don't care for the uninspiring mono sounding factory pianos
WOW
Can't believe you posted this video 😀
I only got one in the last few weeks on eBay.....for £54 !! Highest bid, couldn't imagine that I'd win. It looks like new, no yellow keys either. 👍😁
PS
Think the arp has many different types, the more you press the button.
54 squidders, wow!
Thanks for the amazing rundown of sounds and possibilities of the N5!
And I believe the psychedelic fishes at 9:17 really topped it all off nicely!
Jus noticed one up for sale at € 100 😉just in my neighbourhood as well, so maybe I'll snag it up!
Well that sounds like a bargain. I’m really glad you liked the video :-)
Sounds like an 03R/W, with a tiny bit more Wavestation added. I'm still keeping the Wavestation SR on my wish list, but it's certainly more interesting than the 03R/W. Especially with the arpeggiator.
I Have This
This N-series, also the rack versions were cut down budget versions of the older X-series. They lack many of the combi features which made the X-series shine. Although the N-364 and N-264 were improved versions of the X-3/X-2, with more sounds and way better sound quality. Those are the ones to go for, not this N5.
N5EX and N1R have the same extra 6MB memory mostly devoted to AP and EP sounds. N364 has less sounds but higher fidelity sound set.
N5EX is better than worse comparing its plain N5 sibling.
BTW. I really enjoy your presentation, cheers!
@@musicaldracula2017I got a x5dr. I think it sounds like a n364. It sounds better than my x3 and my n1 rack.
@@g-soul4771 Yes. Pretty close to N364 and a tad better sounding than N1r. Definitely better sounding than X3, which sounds very muffled.
This has Roland GS compatibility and Yamaha XG(MU80) compatibility
Interesting! And good to know 👍
I'm trying to look it up now. Was this available in the States?
Surely
Wow! That's nice...
Hi dude, I would like to see the aftertouch effects on your own!
You can do it?
You can do it! I bet...
Thanks a lot for your attention.
And congratulations Brother 👍🎼🎹
Ahh sorry man i don't have this synth anymore. You're right though, that would have been fun :(
Don't worry Man! I don't not fellowship interested this synthesizer anymore. I rather the N364! Thanks again for your feedback
Did you find the “Babylon Zoo” preset?
The first sound in this video. ua-cam.com/video/XCbAEkfXSDE/v-deo.htmlsi=eVtID830drNwfa0E
Wow that's a band I haven't heard about in a long time... to answer your question: No I did not.
How is this different soundwise than x5? Besides x5 lacking arpeggiator of course
Mush more advanced, in my humble opinion :)
Also, they changed some of the waveforms after the N364/N264 - the strings samples from the X series were replaced. Not as good as the X series or the N264/364. The X series & N264/364 do sound better than the later N models
@@ptr_new I have the n264 too! But I dont recall such amazing presets on mine! These n5 patches must be completely different? Would love to get my hands on these n5 patches and try to load these in n364.
@@gearfacts I recently fell in love with the arp on my cs1x. How many arp patterns does n5 have?
@@krzysztofwaclawski9002 the sound generation engine is the exact same, the only difference is the wave ROM - the waveforms are slightly different but about 90% the same, so you should be able to get the N5 sounds on your N264 or X series keyboards. One thing I know for sure is that the “Strings” waves are totally different after N264/364
Ya have to consider the meaning of the word "dated", which I really despise. It means out of vogue. obsolete, out of touch, old fashioned, etc. It is simply a human judgement and me, being me, I don't allow people's judgement of what I am and what I do affect me. Some people take "judgement" seriously to the point of becoming depressed or suicidal and that's where the monster rears it ugly head, destroying the beauty of life and a person's worth, sometimes costing their lives. Do what you do and be true to yourself. Hold to the laws of the Creator and you will be happy and live a long fruitful life, even though you are considered by others who hate and label what you are and what you do as "dated". Like, so what if my Avocado green kitchen is considered "dated". I don't give a toot or a bippity bop about it! 👼
It's a word I have a tendency to use too much. It doesn't have enough accurate synonyms :( Maybe I should make some up...
@@gearfacts Maybe "old school"?
@@dawnr8511 Hmmm maybe. "Outdated" sounds too harsh and final. "Vintage" offers respect but carries certain implications so it isn't always suitable... I'll think on it.
