Thanks for the honest opinion, Ray. I also noticed when they released the 6-string set, that it was literally the 'skinny top heavy bottom' 10 - 52's. The 7-string set has minor differences, like slightly lower guages on the bass strings.
It’s a mixture of the RPS strings and a Stainless Steel. This in conjunction with a stainless steel wrap wire used on the wound strings, provides a bright, aggressive sound with added strength and tuning stability for a modern voice that is built to perform”
You should try XS as well in 1052. I love NYXL for recording, but if you're a normal player the XS strings feel nicer and last more than double longer.
I've been really enjoying the Mondo Slinkies for Drop C tuning on my Explorer. Same set as the Skinny Top Heavy Bottom but the top three strings have an extra .5 (52 - 42 - 30 - 17.5 - 13.5 - 10.5). Leaves the top strings still nice and expressive for leads and just enough tension on the bottom for palm mutes and pinch harmonics feel real nice 👌🏻
YES! I was waiting for someone to review and demo these strings. But now hearing how they’re just normal strings slap on with the Synyster Gates name, I’m kind of bummed.
I'm actually kind of curious of your take on distortion pedals. You always have a superb distorted tone and would love to learn more about pedal tastes. After trying a boutique tube distortion pedal, on clearance from a defunct company, that didn't work out of box, and now likely takes some patience and soldering, I'm personally thinking about trying a keeley filaments, but am interested in your take on pedals. That said, Philly represent. I love coming down there for shows. The TLA might just be my favorite small venue that I've been to.
That would be a good video cause it depends on what you use, if you use an amplifier than most ppl use a boost pedal with the amps built in distortion. But some amps sound really good with a distortion pedal (like a metalzone) through the effects loop. But if you use an amp sim then you just use the amp sim distortion. The best sounding distortion pedals I've heard are the revv, ola englunds chug and the metalzone I know everyone hates the metalzone but in certain scenarios it can sound awesome
@Durkhead honestly, I haven't been paying much mind to what's been coming around. I also haven't been following anyone outside of smr because I haven't really had time. I stuck with him because I love his playing, attitude, and he represents the home state. I've been a bit out of the loop, to say the least.
I don't get artist gauge string man this literally the same 10-52 you can buy in any pack, only difference is probably the coating but those are mostly on the Paradigms too.
@@ghostgaming-78-l5l no they are exactly a 10-52 set that’s it. That’s what he’s always used. It’s just a price grab for EB to sell the same pack at an up charge.
Why is everyone so retarded when it comes to strings? They're not the same as Slinkies at all, they're made from a different alloy that no other string they make employs. They have a different tone and the plains have RPS ends and are tone matched for the edgier wound strings. I mean it's all right there in the specs. And they're not coated as the reviewer ignorantly speculated.. at least the reviewer could have spent 30 seconds reading the specs before making a video. If they feel a touch smoother than Slinkies, then that's obviously because of the different wrap alloy.
I snapped my high E and didn’t have a replacement so I used a B string from a different set and now that’s my “custom gauge”. 13, 14, 18, 28, 38, 48. It’s weird but I like it.
@@theders8590 I’ve been slowly working my way up to his string gauge, I’m actually getting used to the 13, what’s gonna drive me nuts is when I have a thicker G. That’s where I do most of my bends, if I’m bending on the high E it’s usually super high up so I can get away with it.
@@TylerJohnstonGuitar If I remember he used a thinner G string to compensate for that. If I'm wrong then dang. Man's got bear hands. I do bending a good bit but I use the equivalent of using 10's or 9's. I wish companies allowed custom sets for cheap so I can use a 9.5 or 10.5 custom set from D'Addario.
EB continues to put out packs of strings identical to what they already have. Would it kill to have more variety? How about some more packs with wound 3rds, and not god awful thick ass plain strings
Yo what up Ray! You didn't buy those from Amazon direct did you? Those could be a new set of knock off strings. I kid you not I have gotten a bunch from Amazon direct and now I only buy them from a guitar store.
I can’t stand the unbalanced tension. Heavy bottom light top I get but it’s so off. Like 10/50 would be better balanced. The only time I use a 52 with a 10 is when I take a set of 10/48’s and replace the 48 with a 52 for drop c
And this, my friends, is why I’ll only use D’addario strings. You’ll never catch them slapping a sticker on a blank pack and calling it a day. More importantly, D’addario would never release strings that weren’t new or improved in some way, and they would fully explain the changes everywhere. Their quality is just unparalleled and they stand behind them - if you’re not satisfied, you’ll get a new pack or your money back. They even once sent me a replacement when a pack seemed suspicious. THEY SENT ME A PACK TO REPLACE BOOTLEG STRINGS THAT CLEARLY WERE NOT THEIRS. They also once sent me replacements for two packs Amazon damaged and wrong that were determined to be legit - which Amazon should have handled, not D’addario. I only reached out to let them know their product wasn’t being properly stored and moved around the Amazon warehouse. I could be wrong, but I somehow doubt EB would go that far if this is their signature strings for an artist.
I've had both D'Addario and EB. I noticed the D'Addario's break way sooner or rust/die out much earlier than EBs. I've had EB send a replacement string pack for a damaged pack once before. Sent them an email with a photo and got a new pack pretty quick. I think both firms value their customers and have great customer service. Strings are put through the ringer depending on each player so it's very much a 'to each their own' scenario here. I think this product was probably more to do with their album promotion than giving us a 'revolutionary product'
unfortunately, as good as the new strings sound , the durability on them is a joke.. high E string broke and i only had the strings for almost a month.
