    I love your approach to teaching....teach part by part, camera angle on the hd so we can see, and tell the notes so there is no confusion, play the parts slowly and then in context....excellent job ! ....thanks so much for this...great tune and nicely played !!

    Music Box Dancer was one of my mom's favorite tunes. I'm trying to learn it on the kalimba - I can't afford a hammered dulcimer.

    Doug, I've been playing this song for about 2 years now. Enjoy it a lot, cute and easy piece to play, always gets comments for style. Watching your video is the same way I play this, except you tend to move up and down the bridge, I like moving across. Like the other comments, I learned this from the piano sheet. Going to subscribe to your channel, thanks for doing these songs, I like your style, very similar to mine.

      Hi Daniel! Everyone's experience is different I'm sure but I picked up on playing the hammered dulcimer pretty quickly. This was after failing at the guitar. I had never played an instrument before trying the hammered dulcimer. Like most instruments, the price range is pretty broad. You can get your hands on a used one for a few hundred dollars all the way up to custom models that can push $7,000 - $8,000. I would definitely suggest watching Jess Dickinson's instruction videos (ua-cam.com/video/WVHRHArEiLU/v-deo.html) even before you buy one. I watched them for a few months before buying my first dulcimer just to get a good feel for how to play and to see if I thought I could play it. Also, the dulcimer community is very generous with answering questions, sharing tips and just helping each other in general. You may see if there's a festival near you. Those are great for hearing the music, meeting people and checking out the different dulcimer makers. I hope that's helpful. Happy to answer any other questions you may have!

    Could the song that’s called “Ballade Pour Adeline” be played on this beautiful instrument? If so, can you show us how on a video? Thank you for doing this one, “Music Box Dancer” has always been my favorite instrumental music piece as well as “Ballade Pour Adeline.” Thank you. PS: where can I find this instrument at?

      I just listened to "Ballade Pour Adeline" and I think it would be perfect. I had not heard that song before. Thanks for the suggestion! Also, I'm glad you liked the video too. Thank you for watching!

      @@douggiddings your very much welcome. I always loved that song “Ballade Pour Adeline.” Pianist Richard Clayderman plays it. He also plays “Music Box Dancer” too. I hope to someday see a video of “Ballade Pour Adeline” on that beautiful instrument. Thank you.

    Doug, that is awesome sir. I am brand new learning my way around the HD, getting the scales down type of thing right now. you do this on the Masterworks 16/15c can it be done on the 16/15? Also you asked about songs...the one I would really like to learn is The Rose by Bette Middler, but a slowed down version is that something that you could put together and share? Thank You Sir. Again well done.

    • @douggiddings
      @douggiddings  3 роки тому

      I am so sorry I missed your comment for this long. Yes, you should be able to play this on a 16/15 (if you haven't already figured that out since this has taken me so long). I like that song 'The Rose' and have messed around with it from time to time. It has very good potential for the HD.

    Do you have sheet music available for this arrangement? All I can find is in the key of G.

      I do not have sheet music for what I play on this video. I did a quick Google search for 'Music Box Dancer Sheet Music' and found a couple in the key of C. They're for piano but the melody is noted. Hope that helps!

    Wow I was just getting ready to learn this tune so this will be very helpful. The only music I could find was for piano so it would take some work to extract a Hammered Dulcimer part from it. Do you have a score for what you are playing?
    By the way I am from just west of Fort Worth (Willow Park)!

    • @douggiddings
      @douggiddings  6 років тому

      Howdy neighbor! Unfortunately, I don't have sheet music for it. I learned from piano sheet music I found online. I picked out the melody notes and then just kind of built around that. I should look at putting down on paper.
