    Pretty good list, but most you can find on taobao once you get set up here. I would say bring an unlocked phone at home, and buy a China mobile (or Unicom) chip at the airport when you get to China. Also make sure you download a vpn BEFORE you leave. Don’t go cheap on check in luggage. My bags came from the turnstile at the airport broken and open. Best to get a universal converter and adapter, because you may need it for traveling places like Hong Kong or Japan.

      Good advice on the VPN. I totally forget to mention it. OOOOH and the adapter advice too! You found that stuff on Taobao???? I've seen some of it there, but actually it was folks who were purchasing on Amazon then shipping across the ocean for Taobao. Super expensive. What's been your experience?

      @@ElementaryChinese I'm not a heavy Taobao user... But when I do use it, I can pretty much find what I'm looking for. If I see a seller selling an item for too much, chances are I can find another selling it cheaper there. For example...I like Raisin Bran cereal for breakfast, and I can't find it here in Taicang. So I order it from TaoBao. I've also bought HDMI adapter (another good suggestion if you want to connect your laptop to a TV screen)...and coconut oil (Good for skin and hair). Maybe I should do my own video about it for my channel...But, it seems more up your ally.

    A few of these I have been able to find now in Chengdu, but shoes are impossible (I'm size 9), and if I want a good antiperspirant I'm stuck with men's spray on stuff. I am big on bringing extra strength Advil from home. Also, medications. They are not always available here, so I am going to talk to my doctor this summer about bringing home a year's worth. I am a size 12 for clothing, but I find even in most Western shops or Uniqlo I am the largest size they tend to have. If you are larger than a size 12 I recommend bringing clothes from home. Also, if you are blonde and use purple shampoo- bring it from home. I have resorted to using DIY with overpriced manic panic hair dye mixed with shampoo.
    That being said, I'm bringing Chinese gifts back home that you cannot get in Canada! Hawthorn candies, desktop air conditioners, and reasonably priced silk, pearls, and 999 silver!

    When I was in China I couldn’t find any under arm deodorant so apparently Chinese people don’t smell when they sweat

    • @ElementaryChinese
      @ElementaryChinese  5 років тому

      .... hmm.. I dunno. But there's definitely not much deodorant here. I saw some roll-on kind once and when I took it up the the Watson's employees, they didn't know what it was for!

    • @abolka
      @abolka 5 років тому

      Yes, I agree - bring deodorant. Most Chinese people don’t have stinky underarms like we foreigners do, so it’s hard to get deodorant here, especially for a reasonable price or if you have a preferred brand.

    Did you love life in Xiamen ? How is it compared to other cities like Beijin or Shenzen ?

    • @ElementaryChinese
      @ElementaryChinese  5 років тому +1

      Xiamen is a fun, HOT island with a crowded feel. Beijing is a BIG city that feels a little less crowded. I like them both.
