  • The Rusted Ruston.
    A very sorry sight, but one that has interested me for over 20 years..
    Most probably placed here somewhen before 1918
    I have both read and had it suggested to me that this was used to pump sea water for saltwater baths to a nearby abode.
    If anyone has any more info they can add, please be kind enough to add it in a comment below.
    (Ruston Engines like this can be seen working elsewhere on UA-cam. ) :-)

    Looks like that has had an unrecoverable accident before it was left to rot ! The cylinder jacket has fractured off and that hole in the piston is definitely not oem !
    We run a very similar engine at Blackgang Chine which also came from the Island in Freshwater, the actual engine weighs around 3 ton and has a 36HP @ 330RPM output ! I've uploaded a video of our one at Blackgang !

    Originally a seawater pump for the Priory Bay Hotel swimming pool. Some years ago the inlet pipe was visible on the beach

    I'd say ''30's to mid '40's. Unusual pump also.

    smashed by teenagers after it was abandoned more likely. it was a beautify made engine once. but some things are better left where they lie good find mate.
