    Hi, I am just a starter in this SketchUp as I need to do some design drawings for my design works, and I need to do it the right way at the start and making a title Block is a good way to Start. Thanks

    This is exactly what I needed to know! I love to have some more simple videos like this that show just basic features. Right now for example I'm having a ton of trouble navigating through my scenes, and I need to learn how to make layers in SketchUp.

    Thanks Justin. I'm an architect who is in the process of integrating 3D more completely in to my practice. I've chosen SketchUp to do this with. Seems like there is less tutorial content out there for LayOut so I especially appreciate your LayOut videos.

    Justin, I have also had trouble with scenes which were created in Sketchup not being transferred correctly to Layout. e.g. I created a floor plan,saved it as a scene and inserted into Layout, but it showed up as a 3D view of the model with the wall heights cut off. Why does this happen ?

      Generally I create a table inside of Excel, then import that table - makes managing the information a lot easier. You can control the format in Layout

    Thanks Justin, very helpful. I have had some problems with scenes repeating on each page of a layout. Is this because of the layers on each page ?

  • @davidligon6088

    Trying to add a page text block to a template that is included with new page, but editable (with different text) for each page. The idea is to have a common page,description location, but different text. When I add a text box to a template and have it automatically placed on every page, and change the text on one page, it changes on every page, not allowing me to have different page descriptions.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  4 роки тому

      For the layer section, if you click the little image of the 2 pieces of paper, this will change it so that that layer doesn't repeat on multiple pages

    Hi Justin! Your Video's are very good! Easy to follow and easy to understand :) But i have a question; If you are finished with the "Titel Block", everything you do and mark in Layout is changing from Blue to Red? Can you tell me why and also how to change it? Best Regards ;)

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  5 років тому

      I think that red indicates that it's on a layer that's being duplicated across multiple pages - not 100% sure though

    I was looking for a way to have a company logo appear on every page of Layout without having to manually paste it on to every page. Starting at 13:00 in the video you show how to do this using a combination of groups, layers, "control whether this layer is shared across all pages" and document set-up. Thanks so much for showing how to accomplish important tasks when Sketchup and Layout defy intuition.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  4 роки тому

      I don't know that they defy intuition - they're just like anything else though - you've got to learn how to use the features to be able to utilize the features. Glad it helped!

    Hi Justin, great tutorial!
    I wonder if there's any way we can make the drawing scale as auto text? So when we change the scale of any layout, the "scale" text in drawing title is automatically updated.

      Hi Jim - what kind of templates specifically are you looking for? I think there are some scrapbook files here - sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=49829 , but I don't think I fully get what you're trying to do...

    Informative, useful and easy to understand like all of your videos, particularly TheSketchUpEssentials Course. I purchased your course and it is extremely helpful.
    On the topic of title blocks that you use over and over is the topic of custom standard details that you use over and over in your layout drawings.
    For example, if you build decks you may use the same footing detail, stair connection detail, house ledger connection detail etc. in all or many of your drawings.
    Can these details be stored on a page in your saved template?
    If so then, for example, when you select your custom template all of your details will already
    be on say page 3.
    I look forward to your videos on Layout.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 років тому

      Hi Robert - Thank you very much! I really appreciate that you liked the course. I have not done a video quite yet on custom standard details, but that's a very good topic idea - I may actually put something like this together the week after next.
      The answer to your question is yes, they can be stored, but I'd recommend storing them in a scrapbook rather than in a page template. You probably don't want all of your standard details getting brought in to every new project you make (that would create some pretty large template files). Instead, if you save them within a scrapbook, you could drag over the details you need into your plans whenever you need them. I haven't really talked about scrapbooks too much on the channel yet, but they're very useful.
      Did that make sense? More to come in the next couple weeks. Thanks!

    Hi Justin,
    Thank you so much for such a great tutorial! Could I ask a question?
    I set up the title block on A3 plain paper. Now that it is saved as a template, I learned that I need to change the units to feet and inches. Is there a way to do this?
    Thank you!

    • @Thesketchupessentials

    GREAT VIDEO! how do I crop a detail of a DWG file (After imported it) inside Layout? Thanks

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 років тому

      You could crop it by creating a clipping mask - I'll get that added to my list of vids to make - you'd basically draw over the section of the DWG you'd like to show, then select the objects you drew and go up to "Edit," "Create Clipping Mask." That should clip out all the areas of your DWG that aren't within your shape. Thanks!
