I see that many of the people commenting here have this misconception that Eagle Pass, being on the Texas-Mexico border, is a “no-man’s land”, not unlike a war zone. Eagle Pass is probably the most boring place when it comes to crime, a sleepy town, if you will. The local media reports on simple traffic arrests because they have nothing better to report on. In 26:04 you can see Eagle Pass’ famous haunted house. To Lord Spoda: it’s a pity that you didn’t cross the border into Piedras Negras, Mexico, across from Eagle Pass. They have a beautiful riverwalk overseeing the Rio Grande with benches all along the riverbank, and there’s even a children’s playground at some point--very family oriented. At least on two occasions that I was there, I was able to observe people crossing the Rio Grande illegally into the US--all in broad daylight. To my astonishment, the Border Patrol passed by and didn’t do anything. But then again, there was the barbed wire. One of those people eventually crossed back into Mexico (again, probably because of the barbed wire).
the lack of immigration courts do not help preventing illigal crossings. they have a backlog of 2 million cases that have not been processed, alot of these cases included people who have expiring green card and work permits. so even if you filed for approval, you may aswell say your legal stay goodbye. anyone that wants to come to america doesnt want to do it clandestinly in the first place. they want to do it legally but for some reason the buracracy and the restictivness of it only creates the problem in the first place. to get a good understanding how messed up it is, there are iraqi translators who were promised by the u.s. military that they would get citizenship for them and their families. but almost 95% never got it.
there are so few immigration judges that each judge handles 1,500 cases a year. judges can be fired if they dont work fast enough. so if you so happen to be in a immigration court issue, your case wont be throughly looked after. you are gonna see mishaps of justice. unlike real courts, immigration courts dont provide lawyers, which is a great sign that the american interpetation of a immigration legal system works like a blocked bowl movement

My great grandmother and great grandfather lived there in the late 1800’s. She worked in a hotel there and she eventually married my great grandfather. After they had a truck farm in Piedras Negras which failed. From there they went to Guadalupe, MX on the east side of Monterrey where my great grandfather built a brick factory. My grandmother was born there. So nice to see this video and see where they lived for a time.
El Paso de Aguila ; Legend has it that when the Spanish arrived to map the terrain and travel along the mission trails they observed Eagles that nested in Caves along the river would fly off in the morning at day break ; The original name was Anglicanized to Eagle Pass to give it the now used English name. Piedras Negras the border town across from EP is named for the black coal (carbon) the Spanish found in abundance laying on the ground on the Mexican side of the River.
However, even Piedras Negras’ original name was Ciudad Porfirio Diaz, after an important former Mexican president. At some point later, it was renamed to Piedras Negras.
That is what we are wondering, the hullabaloo of the government over illegal immigrants? How come the walls were never finished? As what this video blogger has found out.
Hello! I live in Mexico and work in Eagle Pass. It was kinda weird to see the town from a visitor's p.o.v.The mural you saw across the Rio Bravo (Rio Grande) is part of the Paseo del Rio, a recreational, family friendly walk area created for the people to enjoy. The area you drove into to get close to the river is the golf course. I thought you would drive by the little San Juan Plaza. It is very pretty, specially in Christmas time, when it is decorated with tons of lights. Or drive up Hill Crest street, where you can have a full view of both Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras. It was strange not to see migrants along the border, usually when I drive across the bridge, you can see many of them lingering around waiting to cross the river.
I am in Perth, Western Australia and it is great to see these places that feature on some of out late night, TV shows, I grew up in the bush ata a place called Mannahill, on the barrier Highway, 125 miles from one of Australia's famous mining towns of Broken Hill, When I left in 1970, Mannahill had a population of approx 180 or so people, Today, only 7 people, call it home and 3 of them are my relatives. I enjoy seeing your journeys to shrinking towns and communities in the US and have now subscribed to your channel. Enjoy your travels and take care.
I’m sure radio traffic was pretty heavy while you were cruising around. The Border Patrol was describing you to each other, LEO were in contact, and the Nat’l Guard guys were all saying, “Yeah, we see him. Ya wanna stop him?” 😂 I was astounded at the low crime rate!Anyway, great video, as always. Keep up the great work.
I've been there. I'm a trucker. The other side of the border is Piedras Negras. Hwy 277 there's buncha Marines in HumVees every other mile. Border guards I assume.

I can not believe how clean that river is. When I lived in Ohio, all bodies of water were dirty. I figured only here in the appalachian mountains or other mountains would be the only places with clean water, not in lower elevations. Very cool video!
@@jamesstrickland5387 I swam in the Ohio when I was a kid. We took the bus back home and we freaking stunk up the bus from being in the river. And probably stunk up Price Hill too.
I believe it has to do with how the rivers are fed and what they are cutting through. South Texas rivers are mostly spring fed and travel across lots of limestone. So its clear water running over mostly rock, nothing to churn up. In the Texas hill country, just north of this town, the rivers are so clear you can see individual stones 10 feet below the surface.

I'm 80 now too old to take off on a road trip by myself anymore. I used to when I was younger. Never thought about the dangers. Would just pack up and go. Different time now, but I always enjoyed crossing the country, seeing different places. Thanks for the tour. Somehow I miss it. Got old before I saw everything I wanted to see.

Hi Lord Spoda I don't know how to thank you for showing us these rare footages of small border towns. It's indeed adventurous entering those remote and sensitive areas near border on the lonely roads. Going close to the barbed wire fencing with no one around needs a real courage. It's surprising that Eagle Pass has low crime rate, half that of National average! At 19.09 a nice mural, 23.50 onward a nice and peaceful neighborhood, at 25.22 near the shack are trees. Are those Azadiracta Indica trees native to tropical/sub tropical regions? Overall a very interesting and informative video. Enjoyed it as well as learnt something new. Thanks again.
Thank you for the great comment, Rajeev. The thing with crime is this - the area is crawling with law enforcement. They are everywhere, in a much higher concentration than in other areas of the US. I actually felt quite safe there.

Razor wire and shipping containers --- looks like Bangkok when they have the anti-junta (government) demonstrations. Love the courthouse with the clock on the top in what is a bit like an old French style roof. Some of the town houses need "slight modernisation" in estate agents language but once again the crime rate is low. Nice to hear the border patrol swamp boat about 20 minutes before it turns up, gives everyone time to duck under the bushes but how they are going to guard all that lot ..... snowballs hope in hell even if it's not that easy getting to the river from the other side. Another interesting walkthrough from a "man on the street" perspective. Great Sunday night viewing, thanks for sharing this.

Downtown looks old, and run down now. . There used to be a Newberry, Kress, JC Penny, a big drug store, big HEB grocery store,, 2 movie theaters and jewlery stores. All are gone. Some buildings are now empty and looks like as if you are already in Mexico. Was sad when I visited Eagle Pass 3 years ago. By the way, I graduated from Eagle Pass High School in 1968 and have lived in California since 1972. Good Memories, Thanks for making video. Pass 3 years ago. I was born here back in '58, lived here growing up a bit b4 we moved to California. Last time I was there was in '99. Just curious as to how much bigger E P has gotten. I went to school at Jefferson as a kid and spent a lot of time on the river banks exploring and fishing. If you can catch me up on what's going on now, I'd appreciate it greatly. My respect to you.
Passed Eagle Pass a few times the last few yrs.. a nice small town, some creepy places or building like, although I could say the same about Laredo … nice tour, made me wanna go back there again some day
if your ever back out this way, theres judge Roy Beans in Langtry, a big high bridge over the pecos river with history.. a motel called "desert air" in sanderson thats pretty cool.. and of course marfa and alpine..

I lived in and was a Teacher at Memorial Jr. High in Eagle Pass from 1990 to 93. I liked my students and one of my best students was a girl who just moved from Mexico. S he was a smart Girl as was many of my students. The thing about Eagle Pass was there are many Migrant Farm Workers and their families lived there. They would leave for the farms in Sept-October and wouldn't return until March or April. The School District had a ofter school program to get them caught up with the work they missed. Now I am retired and now live in my Tropical paradise of the Philippines.
I believe that old house @26:01 is the house that Pancho Villa used as a hideout. I remember riding through there one night with an ex girlfriend from Eagle Pass back in 2004.

As an Aussie, I find it kind of surreal to think that if you have a good enough arm you could throw a rock across a river and into another country 😄We're pretty lucky in that we don't have any huge land borders to keep an eye on. The illegal immigrants we have to concern ourselves with are so-called "boat people" who mostly come across the Timor sea on rickety boats from the Indonesian archipelago and SE Asia. Sadly, a number of them get lost at sea, probably a lot more than we know of. Our northern coastal patrols still have to be vigilant, but of course due to the nature of the crossing, we have nowhere near the magnitude of the illegal immigration problem which the US has to contend with on its southern border. Attempts to illegally enter Australia only happen in the north, since to the east, west and south is nothing but ocean. I'm really enjoying watching your trip along the border, LS. Over here, we hear about the US border situation, but it makes a world of contextual difference to actually see some of the places where illegal crossings commonly take place, and the daunting task faced by border security to keep tabs on it all. Talk about a full-time job... Thank you so much for sharing this with us all!
You were completely within your constitutional rights to video from public property anything you can see. I’m glad to see the BP agents have been informed and don’t waste your or their time on it. I’m also surprised you found the lack of a barrier to be unusual. There are 100s maybe 1000s of miles like that on the US border

Right under that second bridge i was fishing with my kid. Watched a group of 5 people swim over, i had to jump in to save a 15 and 3 year old from drowning. Almost drowned myself but someone from Mex swam over to help.
If the border patrol saw you could they charge you for aiding and abetting illegal immigrants? Just wondering because I think they could if they wanted to. But if I were in your shoes I would save them even if it violated US law, we're all humans after all.
Once the guy from mex swam over, he grabbed the 3year old from me and i was able to swim and find a branch in the water, that i was able to stand on. He noticed border patrol coming and handed me the little girl. I waited there for them hoping the branch wouldnt break. After they took us to river bank they got a quick statment from me and they(BP) and two Texas state troopers shook my hand and told me thanks. I think they just used their judgment that i just wanted to help instead of me trying to get them over here.

Maybe it would be cheaper to boost up the economy of some Central American country or Mexico itself, than it is to take care of them when they get here. The space and funds aren't limitless anywhere in the world.

The problem with that is the corruption in those areas. The leaders in power and control, do not care about the people. Just like it's destroying here.

I helped to fund around $4000 so that my daughter in law could legally enter the US and become a citizen. She's from Kyrghyszstan and can't understand how we let illegal immigration occur. Her country is surrounded by high barb wire fences manned every few hundred meters by soldiers with heavy mavhine guns. Anyone caught in no man's land is simply shot without warning as well as anyone caught inside the country illegally. They just don't have much illegal immigration. I got to witness some of that when our family went there for our son's wedding. When people claim the US treats illegals badly just stop to think about what some other contries do.
Illegals are treated better than citizens. They are used as political pawns at taxpayer expense. For political gain. Unfair to those who come here legally. Much of the benefits given to illegals are not allowed for citizens.

I’m from here. Not too far from where you went towards the end of the video is a “shooting range” with piss poor targets but it’s right at the edge of the river and has several ponds with picnicking roofs around them. And trust me, even if it feels like you’re alone and not being watched, you are. The border patrol has ground sensors all over the place and not to mention the camera towers. They probably tracked you from the moment you drove past downtown near the river all the way to the end of the video.

Very interesting area, , on the numbers you mentioned coming in daily from Mexico , that would need to be broken down to legal green card workers that cross daily , but live on the Mexico side compared to those illegal . And it's a big entry for Americans going into Mexico to Vacation or many now make Mexico their home. Let's face it, for years the American rancher's and farmers hired illegal immigrants , they paid them cash daily. Mexicans are good people and being border towns it will take on more a feel of Mexico and more Mexicans live in those border towns . Not to mention , TX did belong to Mexico first , so naturally the descendents of those border towns are Mexican as well. I lived on a border back in 1980 , I was living in S Korea on in the Joint Security Area on DMZ, if they had anyone from N Korea attempt to cross , a N Korean would shoot to kill , it stops illegal crossing , that's how a dictatorship works . If one did make it across,they were welcomed into S Korea and S Korea would help them with finding a job and make him a hero . Diplomacy , the US is never going to end Mexicans coming here for work or to get away from their cartel in Mexico . The history of the border and TX is interesting. I will keep watching you and wife Nicole on this trip on the border , it fascinating seeing that .

LS, don't know how far up the road you are now, but when you get to Louisiana, Festivals Acadiens et Creoles is October 14-16 in Girard Park in Lafayette adjacent to the Univ. of Louisiana campus, fantastic free music festival featuring some of the top Cajun and Zydeco bands from SW LA, lots of food and craft tents. Downtown Lafayette is a nice scene on weekends with lots of bars and restaurants. If you go on to N. O., be aware that street crime is really bad now there, with lots of carjackings and shootings. The NOPD is in disarray, with lots of resignations and is seriously understaffed, in addition to a "progressive" district attorney who doesn't take prosecuting violent crime seriously enough. You need to be careful there with your vehicle. If you get rear-ended, DON'T get out but go to the nearest public place or police station. It could be a carjacking in progress. It's that dangerous now. Hope you enjoy your journey through LA. Cheers from Lafayette, LA!

@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip Some of the small towns around Lafayette are having serious gang problems with lots of shootings, mostly at night, so just be careful where you go, particularly Opelousas. Abbeville is a picturesque town, worth checking out its downtown area, but it too has its gang problems. Breaux Bridge has a quaint downtown area around Bridge Street, and is noted for its Crawfish Festival but that's in the spring. If you go south of Lafayette to New Iberia, you should go to Avery Island, where Tabasco sauce is bottled; the Jungle Garden there is so beautiful, my artist wife paints there all the time. The live oaks there are amazing. On the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, check out the town of Madisonville, pretty cool place where lots of folks from NO have escaped to for living and who commute across the lake to work. Also, check out Abita Springs and Covington on your way east to MS and AL. On the MS coast, check out Pass Christian, Gulfport and Ocean Springs. Biloxi has the big casinos but that's about it. In AL, across Mobile Bay, check out the area around Fairhope and Point Clear on your way down to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, popular vacation destinations for people from all over. Safe travels!

Yep, anyone can launch a boat from the public b ramp. You might see trout lined set up along the river. People from Mexico set em up to catch catfish. They float over on inner tubes and take their catch to sell at the market.
I grew up on the corner of Main Street and Ryan right before you drive towards the river bank. Not many videos highlighting my hometown. Growing up and fishing the Rio Grande, I cannot tell you how many dead bodies we saw floating down the river. My grandmas house was constantly getting flooded when the Amistad Dam opened the flood gates, that is why the lot is empty now. I remember playing outside and seeing the Border Patrol constantly chasing illegals. At times they would hide behind my grandmas house. I have very fond memories of what once was a fun upbringing along the Rio Grande.
Hey brother, I grew up for a time on Commercial and Leona down from the old ice place. I remember going down to the river edge and fishing for those large catfish. Haven't been back since '99 and perhaps you can fill me in on what is going on now a days. Thank you with much respect.
That's the political side of the story. Democrats want to paint a picture of poor people coming in trying to find jobs and start a new life. The Republicans give you the real facts. Military aged men from Syria, Turkey, the Middle East often come in, but for what reason? Surely not to start a family!!
My dad was in the Air Force we lived on base outside of Eagle Pass. The base was closed and the base housing sold as public homes. I found pictures online and saw it was an awful rundown mess. It was sad to see. When we lived there I was 4 and 5. The base was nice and clean, the homes spic and span. On base we had a PX, a bowling alley, a swimming pool, a movie theater, a small diner type resturant. It was a small base, a pleasant and safe place for families with kids to live. My father worked in radar there. There were airfields, I believe planes practiced touch and go landings there quite often. We used to go shopping and go to church in downtown Eagle Pass. Even back then, in the early 1960s, Mexicans far outnumbered whites in town. Everyone was very nice and people seemed to get along well. There were places to get excellent TexMex meals. On base we had tons of rattlesnakes, tarantulas, and scorpions. The base was full of horned toads, I loved them. In recent years I've read the number of horned toads has severely declined, which is sad.
My family is from across the border in Piedras. Every year I drive to México and I do all my shopping in Eagle Pass, love that border town. Future retirement home for me.
I wouldn't live in a border town for anything. It was bad enough when we were stationed in El Paso Texas. I remember when we would go back and forth to Albuquerque NM. All the rest areas had signs telling you not to pickup anyone or give ride's to anyone 😎
So looked at the map after the news, there is a small channel between the 2 bridges, you where at the one Bridge close to it. On maps its seems there is no fence, would it not be easier to go over by night with a boat and just walk up the Channel till you inside the town and then lets say go on a Greyhound bus to a bigger city? Or do they all just want to be caught to be processed? Also it seems that red Train bridge, it would be possible to climb on with a ladder or sneck into the control point on the Mexican site and then either climb down with a roll up latter half way into the American site or just walk to the end but its all fenced in too so guess there are people watching? So what is the point of that Wall and all that resources spend like people watching a river instead of hunting criminals on the street? Would it not be much cheaper to just cut all welfare to Zero, its what my county did and we do not get illegal immigrants, if they have no money to life they wont stay so they move to places where they get more social help. The other thing is, If I would life on the American Side I would think its like East Germany all walled in like a Prison, it seems using that park you where parked or the River for lets say fishing or swimming is not possible. Like a wall works both ways.
ThIs is my hometown 🥲 when I was little my grandma and I would walk to Piedras Negras (Black Rocks) to shop and pick up her medicines. We left when I was 10 years old and a few years later the cartel and a few gangs took over the neighborhood my grandma used to live in. We were 5 minutes away from the border and the river was basically in our back yard. My husband and I are currently saving up to take my grandma for a visit, she’s missed our home since we all left for better opportunities. Can’t wait to show her this! 🥲
Hi. I was born here but now live in Houston. I grew up on Commercial Street by our lady of refuge school. My grandmother's property extended down to the river's edge. Good to know there are people that have lived there in E P through social media, my respect to you.

At least on two occasions that I was there, I was able to observe people crossing the Rio Grande illegally into the US--all in broad daylight. To my astonishment, the Border Patrol passed by and didn’t do anything. But then again, there was the barbed wire. One of those people eventually crossed back into Mexico (again, probably because of the barbed wire).
the lack of immigration courts do not help preventing illigal crossings. they have a backlog of 2 million cases that have not been processed, alot of these cases included people who have expiring green card and work permits. so even if you filed for approval, you may aswell say your legal stay goodbye.
anyone that wants to come to america doesnt want to do it clandestinly in the first place. they want to do it legally but for some reason the buracracy and the restictivness of it only creates the problem in the first place. to get a good understanding how messed up it is, there are iraqi translators who were promised by the u.s. military that they would get citizenship for them and their families. but almost 95% never got it.
there are so few immigration judges that each judge handles 1,500 cases a year. judges can be fired if they dont work fast enough. so if you so happen to be in a immigration court issue, your case wont be throughly looked after. you are gonna see mishaps of justice. unlike real courts, immigration courts dont provide lawyers, which is a great sign that the american interpetation of a immigration legal system works like a blocked bowl movement

My great grandmother and great grandfather lived there in the late 1800’s. She worked in a hotel there and she eventually married my great grandfather. After they had a truck farm in Piedras Negras which failed. From there they went to Guadalupe, MX on the east side of Monterrey where my great grandfather built a brick factory. My grandmother was born there. So nice to see this video and see where they lived for a time.
El Paso de Aguila ; Legend has it that when the Spanish arrived to map the terrain and travel along the mission trails they observed Eagles that nested in Caves along the river would fly off in the morning at day break ; The original name was Anglicanized to Eagle Pass to give it the now used English name. Piedras Negras the border town across from EP is named for the black coal (carbon) the Spanish found in abundance laying on the ground on the Mexican side of the River.

However, even Piedras Negras’ original name was Ciudad Porfirio Diaz, after an important former Mexican president. At some point later, it was renamed to Piedras Negras.

Hello! I live in Mexico and work in Eagle Pass. It was kinda weird to see the town from a visitor's p.o.v.The mural you saw across the Rio Bravo (Rio Grande) is part of the Paseo del Rio, a recreational, family friendly walk area created for the people to enjoy. The area you drove into to get close to the river is the golf course. I thought you would drive by the little San Juan Plaza. It is very pretty, specially in Christmas time, when it is decorated with tons of lights. Or drive up Hill Crest street, where you can have a full view of both Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras. It was strange not to see migrants along the border, usually when I drive across the bridge, you can see many of them lingering around waiting to cross the river.
I live in piedras negras, I usually go to la popular in eagle pass to get my clothes once in a while, cheers!
I am in Perth, Western Australia and it is great to see these places that feature on some of out late night, TV shows, I grew up in the bush ata a place called Mannahill, on the barrier Highway, 125 miles from one of Australia's famous mining towns of Broken Hill, When I left in 1970, Mannahill had a population of approx 180 or so people, Today, only 7 people, call it home and 3 of them are my relatives. I've been there. I'm a trucker. The other side of the border is Piedras Negras. Hwy 277 there's buncha Marines in HumVees every other mile. Border guards I assume.

I can not believe how clean that river is. When I lived in Ohio, all bodies of water were dirty. I figured only here in the appalachian mountains or other mountains would be the only places with clean water, not in lower elevations. Very cool video!

I believe it has to do with how the rivers are fed and what they are cutting through. South Texas rivers are mostly spring fed and travel across lots of limestone. So its clear water running over mostly rock, nothing to churn up. In the Texas hill country, just north of this town, the rivers are so clear you can see individual stones 10 feet below the surface.

It's surprising that Eagle Pass has low crime rate, half that of National average!
At 19.09 a nice mural, 23.50 onward a nice and peaceful neighborhood, at 25.22 near the shack are trees. Are those Azadiracta Indica trees native to tropical/sub tropical regions?

Thank you for the great comment, Rajeev. The thing with crime is this - the area is crawling with law enforcement. They are everywhere, in a much higher concentration than in other areas of the US. I actually felt quite safe there.

Razor wire and shipping containers --- looks like Bangkok when they have the anti-junta (government) demonstrations. Love the courthouse with the clock on the top in what is a bit like an old French style roof. Some of the town houses need "slight modernisation" in estate agents language but once again the crime rate is low. Nice to hear the border patrol swamp boat about 20 minutes before it turns up, gives everyone time to duck under the bushes but how they are going to guard all that lot ..... snowballs hope in hell even if it's not that easy getting to the river from the other side. Another interesting walkthrough from a "man on the street" perspective. Great Sunday night viewing, thanks for sharing this.

Downtown looks old, and run down now. . There used to be a Newberry, Kress, JC Penny, a big drug store, big HEB grocery store,, 2 movie theaters and jewlery stores. All are gone. Some buildings are now empty and looks like as if you are already in Mexico. Was sad when I visited Eagle Pass 3 years ago. By the way, I graduated from Eagle Pass High School in 1968 and have lived in California since 1972. Good Memories, Thanks for making video.

I was born here back in '58, lived here growing up a bit b4 we moved to California. Last time I was there was in '99. Just curious as to how much bigger E P has gotten. I went to school at Jefferson as a kid and spent a lot of time on the river banks exploring and fishing. If you can catch me up on what's going on now, I'd appreciate it greatly. My respect to you.

I lived in and was a Teacher at Memorial Jr. High in Eagle Pass from 1990 to 93. I liked my students and one of my best students was a girl who just moved from Mexico. S he was a smart Girl as was many of my students. The thing about Eagle Pass was there are many Migrant Farm Workers and their families lived there. They would leave for the farms in Sept-October and wouldn't return until March or April. The School District had a ofter school program to get them caught up with the work they missed. Now I am retired and now live in my Tropical paradise of the Philippines.

As an Aussie, I find it kind of surreal to think that if you have a good enough arm you could throw a rock across a river and into another country 😄We're pretty lucky in that we don't have any huge land borders to keep an eye on. The illegal immigrants we have to concern ourselves with are so-called "boat people" who mostly come across the Timor sea on rickety boats from the Indonesian archipelago and SE Asia. Sadly, a number of them get lost at sea, probably a lot more than we know of. Our northern coastal patrols still have to be vigilant, but of course due to the nature of the crossing, we have nowhere near the magnitude of the illegal immigration problem which the US has to contend with on its southern border. Attempts to illegally enter Australia only happen in the north, since to the east, west and south is nothing but ocean.
I'm really enjoying watching your trip along the border, LS. Over here, we hear about the US border situation, but it makes a world of contextual difference to actually see some of the places where illegal crossings commonly take place, and the daunting task faced by border security to keep tabs on it all. Talk about a full-time job... Thank you so much for sharing this with us all!

You were completely within your constitutional rights to video from public property anything you can see. I’m glad to see the BP agents have been informed and don’t waste your or their time on it. I’m also surprised you found the lack of a barrier to be unusual. There are 100s maybe 1000s of miles like that on the US border

Right under that second bridge i was fishing with my kid. Watched a group of 5 people swim over, i had to jump in to save a 15 and 3 year old from drowning. Almost drowned myself but someone from Mex swam over to help.
If the border patrol saw you could they charge you for aiding and abetting illegal immigrants? Just wondering because I think they could if they wanted to. But if I were in your shoes I would save them even if it violated US law, we're all humans after all.
Once the guy from mex swam over, he grabbed the 3year old from me and i was able to swim and find a branch in the water, that i was able to stand on. He noticed border patrol coming and handed me the little girl. I waited there for them hoping the branch wouldnt break. After they took us to river bank they got a quick statment from me and they(BP) and two Texas state troopers shook my hand and told me thanks. I think they just used their judgment that i just wanted to help instead of me trying to get them over here.

The crossings usually don’t happen near the bridges. They happen more near the loop going to Laredo. National Guard is always there.

I helped to fund around $4000 so that my daughter in law could legally enter the US and become a citizen. She's from Kyrghyszstan and can't understand how we let illegal immigration occur. Her country is surrounded by high barb wire fences manned every few hundred meters by soldiers with heavy mavhine guns. Anyone caught in no man's land is simply shot without warning as well as anyone caught inside the country illegally. They just don't have much illegal immigration. I got to witness some of that when our family went there for our son's wedding. When people claim the US treats illegals badly just stop to think about what some other contries do.

I’m from here. Not too far from where you went towards the end of the video is a “shooting range” with piss poor targets but it’s right at the edge of the river and has several ponds with picnicking roofs around them. And trust me, even if it feels like you’re alone and not being watched, you are. The border patrol has ground sensors all over the place and not to mention the camera towers. They probably tracked you from the moment you drove past downtown near the river all the way to the end of the video.
Would an American be able to launch his kayak into the river and fish?

Very interesting area, , on the numbers you mentioned coming in daily from Mexico , that would need to be broken down to legal green card workers that cross daily , but live on the Mexico side compared to those illegal . And it's a big entry for Americans going into Mexico to Vacation or many now make Mexico their home. Let's face it, for years the American rancher's and farmers hired illegal immigrants , they paid them cash daily. Mexicans are good people and being border towns it will take on more a feel of Mexico and more Mexicans live in those border towns . Not to mention , TX did belong to Mexico first , so naturally the descendents of those border towns are Mexican as well. I lived on a border back in 1980 , I was living in S Korea on in the Joint Security Area on DMZ, if they had anyone from N Korea attempt to cross , a N Korean would shoot to kill , it stops illegal crossing , that's how a dictatorship works . If one did make it across,they were welcomed into S Korea and S Korea would help them with finding a job and make him a hero . Diplomacy , the US is never going to end Mexicans coming here for work or to get away from their cartel in Mexico . The history of the border and TX is interesting. I will keep watching you and wife Nicole on this trip on the border , it fascinating seeing that .

LS, don't know how far up the road you are now, but when you get to Louisiana, Festivals Acadiens et Creoles is October 14-16 in Girard Park in Lafayette adjacent to the Univ. of Louisiana campus, fantastic free music festival featuring some of the top Cajun and Zydeco bands from SW LA, lots of food and craft tents. Downtown Lafayette is a nice scene on weekends with lots of bars and restaurants. If you go on to N. O., be aware that street crime is really bad now there, with lots of carjackings and shootings. The NOPD is in disarray, with lots of resignations and is seriously understaffed, in addition to a "progressive" district attorney who doesn't take prosecuting violent crime seriously enough. You need to be careful there with your vehicle. If you get rear-ended, DON'T get out but go to the nearest public place or police station. It could be a carjacking in progress. It's that dangerous now. Hope you enjoy your journey through LA. Cheers from Lafayette, LA!

@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip Some of the small towns around Lafayette are having serious gang problems with lots of shootings, mostly at night, so just be careful where you go, particularly Opelousas. Abbeville is a picturesque town, worth checking out its downtown area, but it too has its gang problems. Breaux Bridge has a quaint downtown area around Bridge Street, and is noted for its Crawfish Festival but that's in the spring. If you go south of Lafayette to New Iberia, you should go to Avery Island, where Tabasco sauce is bottled; the Jungle Garden there is so beautiful, my artist wife paints there all the time. The live oaks there are amazing. On the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, check out the town of Madisonville, pretty cool place where lots of folks from NO have escaped to for living and who commute across the lake to work. Also, check out Abita Springs and Covington on your way east to MS and AL. On the MS coast, check out Pass Christian, Gulfport and Ocean Springs. Biloxi has the big casinos but that's about it. In AL, across Mobile Bay, check out the area around Fairhope and Point Clear on your way down to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, popular vacation destinations for people from all over. Safe travels!

Yep, anyone can launch a boat from the public b ramp. You might see trout lined set up along the river. People from Mexico set em up to catch catfish. They float over on inner tubes and take their catch to sell at the market.

I don't get why they don't cross the border up on the bridge and pass through the official port of entry legally.
I grew up on the corner of Main Street and Ryan right before you drive towards the river bank. Not many videos highlighting my hometown. Growing up and fishing the Rio Grande, I cannot tell you how many dead bodies we saw floating down the river. My grandmas house was constantly getting flooded when the Amistad Dam opened the flood gates, that is why the lot is empty now. I remember playing outside and seeing the Border Patrol constantly chasing illegals. At times they would hide behind my grandmas house. I have very fond memories of what once was a fun upbringing along the Rio Grande.
Hey brother, I grew up for a time on Commercial and Leona down from the old ice place. I remember going down to the river edge and fishing for those large catfish. Haven't been back since '99 and perhaps you can fill me in on what is going on now a days.

What is find interesting about this series is the number of places where there is no barrier to crossing from Mexico.
Maybe not a physical barrier but plenty of electronic surveillance I suspect.

That's the political side of the story. Democrats want to paint a picture of poor people coming in trying to find jobs and start a new life. The Republicans give you the real facts. Military aged men from Syria, Turkey, the Middle East often come in, but for what reason? Surely not to start a family!!
My dad was in the Air Force we lived on base outside of Eagle Pass. The base was closed and the base housing sold as public homes. I found pictures online and saw it was an awful rundown mess. It was sad to see. When we lived there I was 4 and 5. The base was nice and clean, the homes spic and span. On base we had a PX, a bowling alley, a swimming pool, a movie theater, a small diner type resturant. It was a small base, a pleasant and safe place for families with kids to live. My father worked in radar there. There were airfields, I believe planes practiced touch and go landings there quite often. We used to go shopping and go to church in downtown Eagle Pass. Even back then, in the early 1960s, Mexicans far outnumbered whites in town. Everyone was very nice and people seemed to get along well. There were places to get excellent TexMex meals. On base we had tons of rattlesnakes, tarantulas, and scorpions. The base was full of horned toads, I loved them. In recent years I've read the number of horned toads has severely declined, which is sad.

My family is from across the border in Piedras. Every year I drive to México and I do all my shopping in Eagle Pass, love that border town. Future retirement home for me.
I'm jealous. If I can't do it. I can enjoy watching it. You Tube is great asset.

I wouldn't live in a border town for anything. It was bad enough when we were stationed in El Paso Texas. I remember when we would go back and forth to Albuquerque NM. All the rest areas had signs telling you not to pickup anyone or give ride's to anyone 😎

Mostly butterflies, and the air is thick with them! Never seen so many.
Does that bordertown crime statistic extend to other states like Arizona, New Mexico and California? Or is that only for Texas?
So looked at the map after the news, there is a small channel between the 2 bridges, you where at the one Bridge close to it. On maps its seems there is no fence, would it not be easier to go over by night with a boat and just walk up the Channel till you inside the town and then lets say go on a Greyhound bus to a bigger city?
Or do they all just want to be caught to be processed? Also it seems that red Train bridge, it would be possible to climb on with a ladder or sneck into the control point on the Mexican site and then either climb down with a roll up latter half way into the American site or just walk to the end but its all fenced in too so guess there are people watching?
So what is the point of that Wall and all that resources spend like people watching a river instead of hunting criminals on the street? Would it not be much cheaper to just cut all welfare to Zero, its what my county did and we do not get illegal immigrants, if they have no money to life they wont stay so they move to places where they get more social help.
The other thing is, If I would life on the American Side I would think its like East Germany all walled in like a Prison, it seems using that park you where parked or the River for lets say fishing or swimming is not possible. Like a wall works both ways.
Would you travel on Mexico Hwy 2 along the border? That would seem interesting.
ThIs is my hometown 🥲 when I was little my grandma and I would walk to Piedras Negras (Black Rocks) to shop and pick up her medicines. We left when I was 10 years old and a few years later the cartel and a few gangs took over the neighborhood my grandma used to live in. We were 5 minutes away from the border and the river was basically in our back yard. My husband and I are currently saving up to take my grandma for a visit, she’s missed our home since we all left for better opportunities. Can’t wait to show her this! 🥲

False. There are 3 casinos in Texas. Naskila Gaming in Livingston, Texas and Speaking Rock Entertainment Center in El Paso.
