- Taken from the VHS release of "Rust Never Sleeps: A Concert Fantasy." Was surprised to see many of the incredible performances from this concert film not uploaded to UA-cam. I'd venture to call it a masterpiece of the genre.

this sound is my religion, my god and the love of my life
The Godfather of Grunge...
Still sparkling wine in 2024 🎉
This is DEFINITELY the best Neil Young live footage video! I was raised on classic rock from birth and this song came out the year I was born which is cool to know.
I can't believe this video only has 300 likes. I hope you never take this down. This is a gem and I come back to this from time to time. Thanks.
The concert is restricted in a lot of Countries thanks to MGM? I have the DVD one of the best Concert footage I've seen along with Live in Berlin and Rusted out Garage.
I love the way the bassist walks around
Billy has always walked around like that and in circles, he's 80 now it shows sadly, always fascinated me watching him at gigs and Neil's rocking back and fore, I'm not 100% but I think that's as a result of the Polio he had as a kid, most who survived ended up with a leg shorter than the other. Both are fascinating to watch, love them.
he can sure make that guitar scream when he wants to man, this is my favorite live song pretty much of all time
He is also using a particular amp that overdrives in an extra noisy way. So it's not just "all in the fingers" here.
Do you play? Just curious
He’s a great guitarist. Like a Hurricane as good as it gets
Once you gone you can NEVER come back when your out of the blue in into the black
Neal Young & Crazy Horse are among my favourites since the 70's, I must have listened to that Live Rust double album over a thousand times! Thanks a bunch for sharing this!
Watched this in Manila 44 years ago. Back in the day when a ticket buys you a seat in the movie house for the entire day. Sat through multiple screenings of this classic concert film for 2 specific reasons. 1. Great music from the immortal NY 2. Stoned out of my effin’mind and unable to stand up.
yup i recall it was 1981.full standing room only.it was jampacked.to think it was shown in cinema..i was 14yrs old then.ill never forget this.
😂😂😂😂
Can't argue with that . . .
Bill Talbot finally gives in and takes his bass for a walk at 2:15.
Neil Young is one of the best lead guitarists
This slaps harder than anything out there including Sabbath.
The best neil young live I have ever seen and heard. Awesome
One of my favorite pieces that I can never hear often enough. I still remember exactly how proud I was to have finally found the record in a store back in 1979. Back then, music wasn't available at all times like it is today; for some records you had to spend weeks traipsing around stores.
Before I bought the record myself, I only knew the acoustic version, My my hey hey, and I really wanted to have it. When I first put it on I was excited and thought it was the last song on the second side. When I listened to it, I was a little shocked and thought there was a lot of dust under the needle because it sounded so distorted. Only then did I see that there are two versions of the song on the album. The whole album is a masterpiece and I really appreciate how it evolves from piece to piece. I still like to play the old record from back then, even though I also have it on CD and as a digital version on my computer - the record has never gathered dust on me.
The contrast with the accoustic version, is so stark. The heavy stomping, even rage in some versions. A reaction of the guitar of this thought it was “beautiful” and Folk,…yet they didn’t note The King vs Rotten lyric…and, didn’t know how lyric from this, used by Kurt C’ at his chosen death, really disturbed Neil Y’. This is a song of transition in music, and emotion, and generation.
bro i feel that
this is what an artist is.....his repetoire of songs amazing and so many iconic and memorable to many of us for so many different reasons !
It doesn’t get any better than this.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
There is more to
this picture than meet the eye
Grunge before Grunge
This lead me to the live album back in the day. Awesome sound. Guitar sounds like a sledge hammer
Agree. Just so heavy and distorted, yet melodic and soothing; absolutely wonderful. Another great 1970s live album...nothing like this any more.
Nothing better than this
Cuando vi por primera vez este video me impresionó ver y escuchar a Neil Young tocar y cantar hard rock con toda la crudeza y distorsión hecha obra de arte. Una de las actuaciones en vivo más impresionantes que he visto.
Father grunge 🤟🏼neil
May not be the best song ever. But those jams he does in between singing are stimulate my my music pleasure center as well as any song i consider a Masterpiece. Simple chords, but the frikkin essence of rock and roll.
It is the BEST song ever. You were saying...?
SAMCRO BABY!!!!!
This is what she felt.
-Opie to Stahl
Savage and beautiful
Estava a procura dessa versão a muito tempo , obrigado UA-cam por me trazer de volta as boas emoções
Anybody who knows anything this sound built the future of more bands that will admit from Seattle to New York and a little Pumpkins in between..
That is just a fact! Deal with it!!
Such poetry 💕
Very cool! Never seen Neil Young in concert, but so happy it will finally be fulfilled in May as I got tix on Thursday for May. I can't wait and this will be EPIC! Probably the artist I've always wanted to see, but never did and now a reality! I hope he performs this classic. WOW! Tix weren't cheap, but will be worth it. He's an amazing live performer. He still has it! I love this at the RNR HOF induction in 1995 playing with the members of Led Zeppelin and "When The Levee Breaks." Neil is going nuts on this tune. Probably one of the best performances ever at this ceremony along with Prince and his soloing on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" a few years later. I know Page. Plant and Jones are all big fans of Neil. Especially Plant.Their song "Down By The Seaside" from Zep's Physical Graffiti in 1975 is a nod to Neil's "Down By The River.." It's my favorite Led Zeppelin album and saying something, being a huge fanvof the band.Their appreciation for him. Cool and well done!!! Here's the members of LZ with Neil. Enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/1aFqjP1iuzY/v-deo.html
...and so grunge was born, hail to the king
Oh yeah. Love the old sounds!!
Pancho wearing a Montreal Canadiens jersey like a boss playing rhythm guitar on his Goldtop Gibson Les Paul and Neil playing Old Black.
Que grande sos Neil Young.....
Immortal!!!
Neil rocks!
Pure Gold. F' en Fantastic. The thing about it is , this was one of the original rock and roll songs I heard on New York radio and it blew my mind.
.. what can be said.. 2024 ..and now I'm finally reading Neil Young waging heavy peace.. it's a pretty good book.
.. you kind of rambles a lot but he's told some okay stories about his tour bus on fire....
... How are some of the more deeper heavier songs in the rock and roll library... What can you say, he's from Canada, ay. Pure Gold.. where is the rest of this concert footage?
...
Love this song 😊
aweSoOoOome I've never seen this. So sick! 🤘🤘🔥🔥👽
Is this the origin of 90's "grunge"? Sure sounds like it.
Neil IS and Will Always Be Bad A$& !!!!
Rock and Roll will never ever DIE !!!!!!!!
Dang !!!! I’m old ! 😂
I Love You Uncle
🧢
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!!💜
OMG ! Classic
thanks for this... wow.
Loving this!!! It’s serving c*nt!!!!!
Who'd of guessed that Neil Young invented grunge rock? This song sounds grunge and some parts even sound like Nirvana! This song and version is amazing!!
You’re right! The first NY & CH album, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, is the origin of grunge.
That's because it is grunge. I don't know why people are so shocked about this, grunge was around long before the word grunge was associated with it.
@@RayGates-r9x ohhhhhhh okay smart guy because as far as I and the rest of the world know, grunge was formed in the early 90's and this song is considered classic rock today and rock and roll in that time period so...
No doubt Neil Young had a huge reverberation in the grunge sound, but the overdrive effect was greatly developed by proto-punk bands like MC5, The Stooges and even T-Rex.
He is literally called "godfather of grunge"
ode to dead stars who crashed and burned…..
🎼 "KING OF GRUNGE"
Who's the wizard on the keyboard ??

Don't spook The Horse...
Baked 😅
Sheesh.. dat bass tone.. Good lord! Haha.
Everything sounds great other than them stops they play together during the verses, I can't be the only one thinkin the bass sounds horribly out of tune there, and somehow only there haha.
Canadians rule. Don’t forget they invented Americana music. Don’t ever forget The Band with Robbie Robertson, one of the most ever underrated guitarists ever. RIP.
Get rid of Trudeau. We're getting rid of Biden.
i hate to be that annoying youth who's like "i was born in 2004 and i love this music i wish i lived in this time" but that's how i feel abt it. my parents never played any neil young so i only came across this album a couple years ago when i was super duper depressed and it instantly connected w me. i barely listen to it now bc it takes me back to that time but i love it and i Love this version
The shittiest tone of all time. 😀
but sounds so goooood.....
I failed to see this movie, I was young then and no money to buy ticket.
