  • Based on my testing with the iPhone 14 Pro it doesn't seem 3rd party repair is viable on this device, despite Apples introduction of the "Self Service Repair" program this year.

If the number is consistent and acceptable I would buy something from Apple again. If the phones are irreparable and last only about 1-2 years then I'd move away from Apple or bought decent used ones for lowered price.

I haven't purchased a single Apple product since, and that includes iPhones, iPads, and all the rest. After seeing this, I remain confident that my decision was a good one for me. I like to think that the customer should always come first, and being able to repair your own gear is something I consider a critically important feature, especially when the replacement costs are so high.

    • @yukonchris
      @yukonchris 5 місяців тому

@@jaywhite15_AL I don't think there was any one straw, but several. Apple's claim to compatibility was one, especially when third party software made specifically for the Mac OS would often break after a major OS update. That told me that even compatibility within the ecosystem was questionable. Another was watching what happened to some of the independent software makers who had committed to building applications for the Mac OS. One I remember particularly was Watson or Sherlock or something like that. Finally, is was the "cult" of Mac. After a time, I realized that adherents, myself included, were treating a corporation a bit like a religion--anything they did was awesome, even when it wasn't. Critical thinking had been shelved.. Once I ditched Apple, I just owned a computer and got things done. Also, weirdly, I found that software on the PC actually continued to work, for the most part, over multiple iterations of the OS.

Funny enough about all these repair tech channels they push the narrative that Apple are anti repair. When myself being a phone repair technician. I can say that iPhone are way easier than Androids.
      1. The flagship android phones are extremely expensive to get replacement parts. They range from 300-700 for a screen. Compared to Apple parts that are 70-200.
      2. Apple is easier to fix, when you need to swap a screen. All you need to do is replace the screen and move the proximity sensor.. With Android you literally have to take apart the entire phone and put it in a new frame. This runs the risk of parts like volume button, speaker, charging port and many more being damage.
Yet everyone pushes the narrative that Apple is worse. Which is a lie

Not arguing that replacement parts on some android phones can be expensive, but even with the cheaper iPhone screen and easier placement, it won't entirely work as the screen and many components are serialized and artificially break functionality, disincentivising 3rd-party and forcing customers to go to apple with their higher repair costs (or cost for their repair equipment) to get their phone fully working again as described in the video.

Problem with that is the logic board is serialized as well as the simcard tray and display. The system Apple uses has the serials logged together, so they would be able to determine that there was a swap. The reason the parts from Apple are able to function is the Apple core systems update the database with the new serials to match the components that weren't replaced. When the phone connects to the internet, it phones home and updates the parts list.
That's the loophole for the Apple Self Repair- when the parts are sent to you, the part serials are updated.

The company pushed the market forward and was the center of innovation, they were the ones everyone had to scramble to copy. Today, Apply hasn't done a single innovative thing in 13 years with growth driven by the annual forced consumption of marginally improved and more expensive versions of the same product.

So, when swapping hardware and OS Update/reinstall is needed to update the approve device registry which it thankfully seems is created by using the currently attached devices as the base when installing or updating the OS.

The display is like a pixel with the metal plate and flex cable going through, and it opens from the back. Seems like more a mixed bag, and it's very strange the base 14s got a massive internal redesign while being virtually identical on the outside, while the pros stayed similar inside but have some differences outside.

    iPhone 20:
    - No charging port, wireless charging only with MagSafe Plus™️ for iPhone
    - If any integrity checks fail including the 5G antenna, the phone will continually wipe its internal memory until it is serviced (also known as: thrown into the shredder and giving a new phone instead)
    - iOS will automatically update to patch security vulnerabilities (also known as: any bypass for software lockouts), no user input required
    - If the device is wiped or moved without permission from the owner, the phone will automatically assume it's stolen and brick itself permanently, by destroying the per-unit key stored on the EEPROM
    - No chargers, still.
    - Apple Recycling Program ensures that any bricked or damaged iPhones are responsibly recycled, by thwarting any attempt at reusing the devices.

Have a US MaxPro. Is it similar internally as the Pro shown in video? If not, how different is it?
Noticed the different antennas but didn’t catch if there is an independent R/F module, need to verify! Testing my MaxPro and 2022 iPad Pro in a High level Criminal Hacker environment shows hardware bypass Backdoor exists built in by design. Thought to be using WiFi/Bluetooth that bypasses User iOS. Suspicion is modified Bluetooth. However, Criminals have and are able to broadcast different frequencies suggesting variable controlled R/F turning the device into a R/F generator. Hence, R/F section may not be separate WiFi and Bluetooth which would effect R/F module design. Any thoughts?
Upgrading to 16.2 doesn’t fix as it’s clearly built in hardware and supported by software. Hence, the only fix is to change out the Backdoor module to a Privacy Secure module if possible.
