In the evening, I always knew when I stepped out of my building when there was a home game: the smell of tear gas in the air. The "club" system in the Europe and eastern Europe is just nuts. One year, a fan got fatally stabbed by a rival fan in Athens - at a womens' volleyball match. I went to one basketball game, and I'm glad I did, but I don't know if I'll ever go to another. (OTOH, I loved Greece, and I hope to retire there - it's just different. Athens is a very cool city, if urban areas are your thing. I live in rural VT now, but grew up in NYC and spent 25 years in DC, so it's not a stretch for me.) BTW - love the video(s) - these guys lived it, and know what I'm talking about, as much as I an relate to their stories.

The US has teams that are owned by some rich guy or some hedge fund. Europe has clubs that are owned by the people in the area the club is from. Its not just supporting the team, its representing your home.
