okay this was honestly a good video! like you included a piece of everything such as sitting down and checking on updates and taking blood! would love to see more videos!
Please make more videos with little lessons! I've just started applying for veterinary assistant positions in NY. This gives me a insight of the environment i might be working in. Thank you for this video!!!
Honestly I was debating VT or VA but since I did coop at two different animal hospitals one in grade 11 and one in grade 12 it made me decide VA was what I really wanted to do. I experienced a lot as a coop student helping my supervisor who was a VA but was able to do VT tasks. I’ve experience drawing blood from my supervisors dog while the veterinarian watches which was amazing! Also developing xrays as well! I’m going to college upcoming September and I can’t WAITTT
I'm currently a vet assistant at Petco, i just recently started, could you make a video telling us about every vaccine and what it does and whats the rules and how we should talk to our customers and what to properly tell them about the vaccines when they having questions or don't know anything and all that.
Ur videos r awesum this is my dream job and am putting high efforts @ school to get certified.working with animals helps me b happy after goin thru so much i guess u can say they are my therapy while wrkin cant wait til its official
I'm almost done my veterinarian assistant program at Algonquin college in Ottawa Ontario one month of placement in January then I'm done can't believe I'm almost a veterinarian assistant can't wait to start my job soon after next month hopefully I have a job in the field then in about a year ill be going for veterinarian technician
I'm interested in getting a job as a vet assistant, in order to see if I eventually want to be a vet tech. Do you think I would be able to get a vet assistant job without experience other than pet-sitting/dog walking and some volunteer work at a barn? I would rather not start out as a kennel tech, since I want more hands on work.
Rachel H. Yes! Any animal experience is experience. When I got this job the only experience I had was volunteering at an animal shelter. Some places are willing to train you. Good luck!🐾
Do you have local animal hospitals? Some should be able to give you classes on becoming a vet tech and they either charge a small fee or pay for it to get your vet ass. license. All that's really required is having a diploma/GED, DL, and a form of ID (which you could obviously use your DL lol). Where I live, our local animal hospital gives classes to get a vet license. You could also volunteer at animal pounds. If those options are unavailable then you'd just have to go through some schooling to obtain the licenses. Best of luck!!!
Hi, thank you so much for the video ! 😄 I'm vet assistant in France. it's very interesting to see how we work in other countries. In the USA, veterinary assistants have the right to take blood tests? In France, it's forbidden.
I am so scared to become a veterinary assistant. I do not know if I would survive the classes cuz I'm slow. (I jump in cuz in life you gotta throw yourself and work it through.) Never worked a lot with animals but I love them.
Hey! So, I start schooling to be a veterinary assistant next year because eventually I want to be a vet tech and the extra education and experience will help a ton. But to answer your question; as a vet assistant it's more valuable to clinics that you have experience with animals. Volunteer work, as well as pet sitting and dog walking are great things to have on a resume. Some clinics don't require an AVA certificate to work, they'll train you, but certification and education on the subject can always help your chances! Although it definitely isn't required if you're lucky enough
I am going to start vet assistant soon. A few concerns I have to you work 7 days a week? Do you get breaks? Is the wage a liveable wage? And most of all do you like it?
I really want to try this to see if I want to become a vet tech but I have no job experience working with animals. I've worked customer service, sales, and am in a spa now. Should I do a vet assistant certificate program?
Rebekah Dennison Ive had experience with animals my whole life (handling, training, walking, owning) and i’m doing the vet certification program because it looks really good on resume’s
You can try volunteering at a shelter to get animal experience or pet sitting. Any animal experience is experience(: check out my new video for more insight. Thanks for the support(:
You don’t need a degree to become an assistant. Any animal experience that you have is an advantage when applying to work at a clinic or hospital! Hopefully my new video answers a bit more of your question(:
i was wondering if you ever are in the room or assist with the vets in putting animals down, also is it hard to give shots/take blood from the animals?
Yes, we assists the doctors in the rooms holding the animal while it takes place. And yes, I was able to pull blood and give vaccines. Except Rabies, the doctor needs to give that one
please tell me how to overcome being afraid of blood because i want to do this so bad but i didn't know i would have to deal with blood. i just cant take it from the dog, but if i need to put the tubes away or something then im fine with that
Just take it slow. You don’t have to pull blood if you’re not comfortable with it but I dealt with blood everyday tbh. Maybe starting as kennel tech or receptionist at a hospital to get the feel of the environment and maybe you’ll be able to move up that way
Probably really stupid question but, what would the odds be that a teen could get hired at a veterinary clinic? (3.9 GPA, 16 years old, Dual enrollment student, could get many recommendations if needed)
princesss Shell hey i’m doing the same thing! my teacher told us that fake nails are absolutely NOT allowed because under the glue there could be air pockets that trap germs and fungus and they could poke through the gloves. i’d suggest just wearing gel polish (:
In your going to America, you would simply have to take the exam sinc you most likely already took the “class”. Take the exam so they know that you know stuff about animals then hopefully you can get a job. This description is pretty vague, but you could always google it.

Houston Gaming I believe it’s around $20,000 a year on the low end and $28,000 a year on the high end but not exactly sure
