Hey!! Did you ever get your motif xf8!! I bought mine un 2014 but two years later without moving it from where I placed it in my house and with very little use it started to show some serius problems. The push buttons with the arrows only respond to up and down but when I wsnt to go left or right they dont respond. This has made my recordings impossible.
I got mine a year ago, still finding out new things. It's a deeply complicated beast when you get under its skin. But damn satisfying to make your own multisamples too. A bit clunky file system, though, but you get used to it. Also, Yamaha has some fabulous learning DVDs for this synth.
but mostly, it's sequencer is superior to anything else out there....and to this day, commands the lead position as master keyboard for my home studio rig
People have to remember Motif XF is Yamaha's top of the line. You pay for the enormous Sound library available. Yes the onboard sequencer is simple, but again. Yamaha owns Steinberg. These keyboards are made to be used with Cubase VST on a Computer. If you are serious with these keyboards, you record on the computer and uses the the onboard sequencer for playback on gigs. I fully agree tho that seeing that Motif have been around for a decade now, Yamaha is squeezing the orange a bit too much. In many ways the much cheaper MOX series today have a fairly good sound and utilises sounds from the Motif library with a better interface than the motif. Yamaha need to get the finger out and come up with a new Keyboard next time with an upgraded user interface. You have to be a big fanboy and have a big wallet to pay 3k + Euros for a Workstation that has an over 10 year old user interface. With the new Tyros 5 just released it shows that Yamaha sometimes actually do listen to end users suggestions about new functionalities (76 keys .. yayy..) only took 10 years since P9000 Pro :)
Thanks :) I ended up buying it the day I posted that comment. I've had a few days now to mess with it. Slowly learning how to record patterns. Still unsure of how to just get a beat or even a metronome going when I'm feeling inspired in Voice mode. Guess it's not possible. It's a powerhouse synthesizer for sure. I just need lots of time to get used to it.
I played this board after I ordered my MOXF8, and I wish I hadn't because it's incredible. Best feeling weighted keys that I've ever played on and terrific sounds (not a problem as the MOXF8 has the same sounds). I'll miss the slightly better keybed and the much better tank like metal case.
I am in the same predicament with the MOXF6. However, the MOXF series has advantages, such as the step sequencer and better DAW integration that is missing on the four-year old XF.
@mr4y As far as I know the issues you mentioned are mostly on the 61 key versions. As for the others I might like to mention that none have the customization and user interface that the kronos has. To me that means more. Plus touch screen technology is the future.
@doctorshabs I think you should consider that most keyboardist who are also producers already have a good computer with the appropriate software and either an older workstation or controller. So most of the keyboardists I know are saying, "yeah thats nice, but I'd rather save a couple of grand and keep using my software."
I've owned a Yamaha PSR S550, a Roland Juno G and a Roland XV 2020 Rack module and I have to say, the yamaha sounds are far more impressive to my taste. I'm now selling my roland gear and looking to get a motif either XS or XF. For me this is the best all-in-one keyboard for live playing, studio use and creating your own arrangements for live play. Does anyone know if it is possible to change effects in Performance and Pattern mode?
i have yamaha mox. my problem is when i play on full grand piano then i switch to violin , the sound of the piano is sudenly stop . what i want is the sound or sustain the piano still there before switch to onother sound or instroments. pls. help i didn't find thanks
I played the Roland Fantom G8 today, but they didn't have the XF8. I'm thinking I want the XF8 anyway. I'm not a pro, I'm actually just a hobbyist. Will the XF8 be one of the best keyboards even 5-10 years from now?
only 700 and something mb? Compared to the 12.6 gb of the korg kronos... I think yamaha missed a huge step there. Lets look at the top 4 keyboards on the market right now. The korg kronos, the motif xf, the fantom g and the korg OASYS. What comes out on top of those four?
What would you recomend for authentic sound and feel, drums, sequencer and midi use with Calkwalk Sonar? This Yamaha or the Roland Phantom G8? Im trying to make a decision. I am going to use with Roland stuff mostly but Yamaha shouldnt be a problem. Roland isnt always compatable with there own stuff at times haha.
Can someone plz help me? I would like to know which keyboard is the best to make music? I want to have a ton of sounds to choose from and maybe even making my own would be cool. I dont care about live performance its just for studio... what do you recommend?
Just ordered an XF7 two days ago. Can't wait to get crack'n on it. But got to learn yamaha's system first. How long do you think it will take me to really start rolling?
hey can anyone tell me if you can plug in 3 pedals into the xf i know it comes with one but i need to know if i can use the three different pedals that normal pianos come with. thanks
I think I would just go for the Kronos X now and it can do VST sounds aswell. With all its two SSD storage space it has plenty of room now for them and more. The only other keyboard I would add is a V-synth GT for the voice designer and other synth sounds and more knobe to turn for them:)
on the next model if you guys make one im a EP/RHODES. the kronos has the eps/rhodes down packed but im not a korg guy. Also the synths need to have the slide like on yamahas old school keyboard the ex-5 had that slide down packed. so next model of the motif make sure those are on there PLEASE
Because not everyone wants to take a computer set up to a gig. I don't! I don't want to have a computer crash and I need to be able to change patches real quick.
this thing deletes samples when u power it off on the xs it has flash memory so when u turn the board off an turn it back on u dont have to wait forever to load it. Also alot more sounds due to bigger waverom other than that its kinda the same also yamaha will do fireware updates for this with new sounds and will stop updating the xs. this is a great board but to me its not better than the korg kronos the only problem is the kronos is expensive as shit! but its worth it i have had the korg m3 an the sounds were complete shit so korg really did a overhaul. but for the $$$ the xf is a great board! go to a music store with some earphones an test it out! plus the xs sales used for about $1200-1500 for the 61 key version an if you save another $300 you can get a used xf6 for $1700 brand new the 61 key version is $2400 and you can get it in black or white
prob shouldn't have one if u cant figure out the basics. But anyway once u have selected your sound that u want from any of the banks a to h in performance or voice mode u then then can store it in the user banks on any of the numbers by pressing store and enter. Straight forward. And to split best to do in performance mode where u layer your sounds.
@xlmusic1 Yes I hope that an expert could clear it up if they really should cost that much or if there are things u can do on motif that u cant do on computer. But now I come to think about it, a good computer cost about 2000$, software=600$ MIDI= $700, so actually its pretty close
I know this is contradictory to the market but I feel no workstation should cost more than a thousand bucks these days. Think about it. Virtually all keyboardist are also producers. I've seen most keyboardist either use an older board or run software with a controller. Think about it a $3500 keyboard compared to purchasing software for a few hundred bucks, that sounds just as good if not better, easier to navigate through, and gets the job done.
VSTS are awesome but having this with the sheer quality of sound is also worth it and great if you know how to play :D which I dont haha! :( I just sequence :/ reverbnation dknbeats
@mr4y Who gives a flying shit? That is the only arguement I ever hear against the kronos. Wow it takes a couple of minutes to start up so what? Worth the wait for the quality of it.
that's for sure ... and also the organ sounds .. but you miss all other. no 80's keyboard sounds, no great strings, no sax tones. nord stands only for piano and organ. i would love to buy one, but the possibilities are not worth the money.
But as it is the sound quality of motif is not as much as KORG KRONOS X 88 which is the top model of all workstations!! comparing to KORG KRONOS X 88 YAMAHA MOTIF is just nothing but a normal keyboard!!!. and too not only the sound quality the sequencing , mixing, professionalism all goes to the king KORG KRONOS X 88
you cant compare these two keyboards the kronos was not made to go head to head with the motif yamaha forums say at the next namm yamaha is suppose to be showing there new flagship workstation to match it but dude yea it might have problems but the sounds are far superior! the motif has only one synth engine compared to the 7 in the kronos but i can say i have the xs6 an its great! and korg has just released the new version of the kronos that fixes all the issues
+thrillamoe50 i have the xs8 amd am looking foward too the xf8 soon. i love korg, i have the korg triton studio, but im sorry it doesnt even compare to the sounds of the motif. korg does have better synth but in ocerall i would rather have the motif.
+Andrew Rivera yeah I had the MXS and the Triton Rack mount and MXS wins hands down. But I would mix them together and ohhhh boy! I got them as a refill with Reason now, the same sounds off the keyboard and they sound amazing. !!! I think Ima get the XF in a Reason Refill.
@xlmusic1 Well thats if moneys tight and they are simply producers, but if u were to tour and shit u need something like this running a MIDI software its laggy hassle and dont look professional
+Andrew Rivera Yes, the MOXF is essentially the same only, of course, has a few limited functions. It can load samples but it can't sample. The FLASH memory has a limit of 1GB compared to the MOTIF which can have up to 2GB. As for the sounds, ALL, and I mean ALL, of the sounds on the more expensive MOTIF models are included in the MOXF units. So, Luis Donado, you CAN get one for under $1,400.00, sort of. Hahaha!!!
Rubbish. The Electro 3 and Stage 2 support a wide range of other sampled sounds. The Stage classic (and 2) has a modelled analogue, wavetable, and FM section - so it is capable of a lot of authentic synth sounds too.
WOW! 741Meg of total WAV samples huh? Keyboard companies shouldn't even mention stuff like this anymore, it's just embarasing, I have one single piano sound which is 10 gigs, and I usually use that with string libraries which are between 20-200 gigs. 3 Different articulations!!! Sheesh, just stop it, if my strings had ONLY three articulations I'd delete it off my HD. I truly don't understand why companies still make these huge keyboards, they are nothing but way underpowered computers.
I just played this at Guitar Center... I was blown away by its sound! I didnt even mess with the gadgets yet. I am definately going to buy!
Yamaha Motif XF8 is a great piece of musical production apparatus. I love it to death ! Thanks
I agree, I own an original motif 6, and even though it's not an Xf, it's still an amazing synth
Getting one this week - all these videos are making so excited!
Hey!! Did you ever get your motif xf8!! I was just gifted a mint condition XF8. This thing is BEASTY, even 13 years after it was released.
this dude is a boss on keys!
I have not purchased one yet , but I have watched the demo can't wait to get one !
I got mine a year ago, still finding out new things. It's a deeply complicated beast when you get under its skin. But damn satisfying to make your own multisamples too.
A bit clunky file system, though, but you get used to it. Also, Yamaha has some fabulous learning DVDs for this synth.
Where can one get the DVDs 📀
I STILL love the XF8. The montage is ok; but lack the warmth in the piano sounds to MY ears. And those orchestral sounds are killer! 😌🎶🎹❤️👍🏾
but mostly, it's sequencer is superior to anything else out there....and to this day, commands the lead position as master keyboard for my home studio rig
wow! what a wonderful keyboard

Very well said. The keyboards deliver sound wise, the programming can always be dealt on a computer.
Does anyone know sysex to change scene 1-5 on FCB1010 foot control?
Thanks :) I ended up buying it the day I posted that comment. I've had a few days now to mess with it. Slowly learning how to record patterns. Very good

just got one! can't wait to make some movie sound tracks!
Please how to I select the natural grand s6 piano voice? I can’t find it under piano category. 🙏
Do it. I just bought mine on Amazon because it's the cheapest there. Should arrive by April 23rd! Already got the HS80M's and HS10W set up.
Great keyboard
Eumir Deodato plays one of these. He had it at Ronnie Scotts last night and it sounded pretty good to me.
Awesome
VERY GOOD REVIEW!!!
Just WOW!!
Hey Blake Angelos!!!!
Please how did he select the grand s6 voice?

Yes!
I got to use this for band. I LOVE IT

Blake can you click in ensemble bass and percussion or even guitar accompaniments to jam on with various styles like jazz or rock or waltzes etc"?
love it
Nice
Thank u
Is there like mic input jacks, or phantom power for condenser mic like they have in roland phantom?
is that like an actual piano with weighted keys and if you press a note lighter the softer the sound??
@doctorshabs I think you should consider that most keyboardist who are also producers already have a good computer with the appropriate software and either an older workstation or controller. Genius
how do these keyboards compare to the tyros range?

How to change scene on FB1010
Can you transition from one sound to the other with the sliders so the other sound comes in slowly.
hey can anyone tell me if you can plug in 3 pedals into the xf i know it comes with one but i need to know if i can use the three different pedals that normal pianos come with. thanks
I like this guy
DEPENDS ON WHICH VST YOU GET. I HAVE AN XF6 AND SOME GREAT VSTS.
Do the Yamaha Motif 8 and XF8 have built in speakers or is an amp needed?
Don't know anything about synthesizers!
Amp or headphones needed.
How to turn off meternome?
plz what amp are you using ?
Ir's been eight months. Where are parts two and three?
I think I would just go for the Kronos X now and it can do VST sounds aswell.

which one is best Korg kronns or motifx 8
Vincent Samuel Korg Kronos 2 2015 model is better. Motif XF is obsolete ever since April 2016.
Very good key board kindly give price in ZAR please
What's the difference between this and the xs model ???? Anyone??

This is what Stevie Wonder uses - in concert.

Kinda teach us more on what you actually did here
Im waiting for a new Motif model before I spend my money. If they don't come out with one
I will go elsewhere.
nic moc
The guy wears a Charlie Harper's shirt!
@mr4y Who gives a flying shit? That is the only arguement I ever hear against the kronos. Wow it takes a couple of minutes to start up so what? Worth the wait for the quality of it.
Gostaria de ter um , mas ñ tenho dinheiro
That's called sst and you need a kronos for that :P just google korg kronos sst.
Nord Stage 2 piano is even better.
that's for sure ... and also the organ sounds .. but you miss all other. no 80's keyboard sounds, no great strings, no sax tones. nord stands only for piano and organ. i would love to buy one, but the possibilities are not worth the money.

@xlmusic1 Well thats if moneys tight and they are simply producers, but if u were to tour and shit u need something like this running a MIDI software its laggy hassle and dont look professional
Oh for goodness sakes!
Raam
luis there is no great sounding keyboard for 1400
+Andrew Rivera Well, Luis can always buy the MOTIF's baby brother, the MOXF6 for under $1200.00
+Tony Mendoza oh yeah your right i forgot. they sound really nice too
+Andrew Rivera Yes, the MOXF is essentially the same only, of course, has a few limited functions. It can load samples but it can't sample. Fantom X or S series
No entiendo nada.soy latino
Way too expensive. Make it $1400
check out my motif
Luis Donado Lol you can get the Motif XF8 at that price now lol
d
Korg kronos is actually alot better
Not really..
Feel on this board is way to heavy. Feels like your playing on bricks lol
Rubbish. The Electro 3 and Stage 2 support a wide range of other sampled sounds. The Stage classic (and 2) has a modelled analogue, wavetable, and FM section - so it is capable of a lot of authentic synth sounds too.
vst's suck balls when compares to the legendary sound of Yamaha... or korg, or the nord... vst's should sound the same but they DONT!
Halion 7 sounds pretty close to Yamaha Motif as it's based on many of these same samples.
WOW! 741Meg of total WAV samples huh? Keyboard companies shouldn't even mention stuff like this anymore, it's just embarasing, I have one single piano sound which is 10 gigs, and I usually use that with string libraries which are between 20-200 gigs. 3 Different articulations!!!
