For those curious about those clefairy odds: Metronome picking one move: (1/439) [467 moves in gen 4, 25 it can't choose (look on smogon for the list) + the other 3 moves the user knows, so 467-28=439]] AI choosing a move in gen 4 without a kill-confirm: (1/4) [Could be different depending on this clefairy's moveset, but I like the max odds lol] Combine the two: (1/439)*(1/4)=(1/1756) This happening twice in a row: (1/1756)*(1/1756)=(1/3,083,536) Life is crazy Dude should play the lottery, lol.
Important note: it's only that probability for that specific move. If it's *any* move twice in a row, the first 1/439 doesn't count, as long as we exclude Self-Destruct, Explosion, Lunar Dance, Healing Wish, and Memento that can't be performed twice, multiplying the chance by 434, for a total of 1/7105. Still bad, but not as bad.
@@TM_0153 The odds to choose the move still stay the same though, don't they? Just because those moves can't be chosen twice in a row doesn't mean they aren't among the list of possibilities. I apologize if I'm wrong but the odds to pick that specific move would be: (1/439) * (1/4) = (1/1756) Because of the gen 4 AI choosing it's move randomly without a kill confirm, and then the odds to do it again would be the same thing...just...again, right? Then to factor the twice in a row odds you multiply the two single possibilities together so, in that case: (1/1756) * (1/1756) I had a similar crazy situation this applied to earlier when my friend and I were playing smash. We both chose random, got the same character AND the same color...I figured the math was similar since that was two possibilities occurring simultaneously. [Don't remember the exact result, but it was: Any character with any one specific color: (1/79)*(1/8)=(1/632) Then it happening twice or at the same time: (1/632)*(1/632)=crazy odds] Anyway, I was trying to figure out where you're pulling the (1/7105) figure from, what number are you multiplying 434 by? I feel like I'm misunderstanding.

Even in normal HGSS, I'd say Clair is easily the hardest fight in the game. You don't have any dragon type moves except a weak base 40 power Twister that'll likely not be stab (and the only dragon type you can have by then is Dragonair, so why are you risking it when it'll only be 60 power after stab and likely not even 4HKO?), So you can't exploit it's only weakness since it was before fairy type existed. Then you take into account that water and dragon have few, if any, pokemon that resist both types in Johto, so Hydro Pump+Dragon Pulse+Hyper Beam is terrifying. That doesn't even take into account the fact that you may be forced to switch to reset Smokescreen lowering accuracy. Switching is far from risk free as well considering that crits aren't 2x, but 3x since Kingdra has Sniper. One pokemon makes Clair the hardest fight without question in HGSS. I wonder how that transfers into Shattered Silver. Edit: Yeah, it also has a Sitrus Berry. Let's not mention how her Gyarados and Dragonairs are fairly bulky (even non stab Ice Beams may not kill the Dragonairs and Gyarados only had two weaknesses, one of which is hard to abuse since most rock moves are physical) and they can easily chip down your pokemon to be in range of Kingdra's attacks. Then you take into account that her Dragonairs both have Thunder Wave, so you better have Cherri or Lum Berries to get rid of the para (which I think aren't too common) or a Volt Absorb user, which (I believe) there are only two of at that point in Jolteon and Lanturn, the latter of which only has a 1/2 chance to have it when caught.
