  • Director Makoto Shinkai's new movie is killing anime charts everywhere! Join me in celebration as we review and analyze his latest masterpiece - 'Your Name' (Kimi no Na Wa 君の名は)!
This is based on my screening experience at Anime Expo 2016 back in July! College and film school projects pretty much took over my life the past few months, so I couldn't really get around to making this video for a while...better late than never? :D

Kamineko NEKOs I have watched the beginning but I can never finish it because secondary school is getting in the way. I know that it's from the same director makoto shinkai, he also did garden of words which has amazing scenery. And others that I haven't seen yet but know will be amazing.

I'm no where near a film critic, but these past years I haven't watched a movie that has been able to really capture my interest. I watched this movie because a friend kept nagging at me to do so for a while now. I finally came around to watching it, and fell in love with it. The animation was beautiful, the story blew my mind, and the music touched my heart. I had lost all hope of watching such movie, but this film made my year. after finishing the movie I called my friend thanking her with tears in my eyes.

  • @JakeG-gp4qt
    @JakeG-gp4qt 7 років тому +16

I have to agree. I saw Zootopia and I thought it was great. I saw Finding Dory and I thought it was even better. I saw Kubo and the Two Strings and thought it was fantastic!
But then I saw Kimi no na wa and was fucking blown away! After I saw Kubo, I thought that should be the front-runner for Best Animated Feature. That that should be the winner this year. But this movie is the clear winner. It's absolutely incredible, and is so far my only 10/10 I've given this year.
And now to the academy: Give this the fucking Oscar you old pretentious fucks! It deserves it! If you give Zootopia the Oscar, which I'm sure you will, I'm gonna bust some heads!

Well done with the review. I've watched a lot of movies, but had none I could truly call my one favourite until I saw this film. I was doubting I was ever going to find something that could satisfy me as both an animation fan, a storyteller, and an artist, and this moview made it all happen.
It reminded me of why I wanted to make stories, of what I want my art to mean to people. I hope to aspire to that same greatness one day, God willing. Until then, I will ALWAYS keep this wonderful film in my memory, to constantly remind me of that goal. The fact that I now know it has been done means its possible to do it again. :)

To name a few: Sword of the Stranger, The Girl Who Leaped Through Time, Expelled from Paradise, Wolf Children, Ghost in the Shell, and Akira are some favorites outside of Studio Ghibli. If you really love Your Name's style tho, definitely check out Shinkai's other films such as 5 Cm Per Second, Garden of Words, & Journey to Agartha!
      Hope this helps :)

Dude you took the words out of my mouth, the stunning visuals the heart gripping suspense as well as the desperation both of the main characters to meet each other again just made me cry towards the ending of the film because it was just sooo beautiful
Minor spoiler alert to anyone who hasn't seen the movie so be warned don't continue reading unless you've watched it finish
I'd love to see you do a a video on your thoughts of the ending (with a spoiler tag in the title) as i know some people prefer more closure in the ending after building up so much tension whereas some people are perfectly fine with the open-minded ending that it had. Personally I'm the type of guy who would like to at least see them embracing one another in tears at the end like the "clique" type of romance ending because of the ordeal they had to face to reach that point where they could finally meet each other in person.
Just wanna know your thoughts and btw im new to your channel but keep up the good work!

Thai Khye Wayn I know right!!! But thats how animes like to end films i guess. Its been 1 day now after i watched the film and im sort of understanding why it ended like that. Its the viewers imagination that closes the film with the hope that they finally be together. While watching this movie I literally kept checking to see how close the movie was to ending. Not even 30 minutes in and I'm checking to make sure it's no went by too fast. I re-winded so many times so I could recapture a moment. I would pause it at certain times to admire the artwork. I was sitting up in my chair the whole time.
    This movie was Fan-Friggen-tastic.

I was never interested in this anime, as I personally feel like the plot is going to be too simple for a movie of this kind in term of romances and relationship. I didn't expects such a directing from the director in structuring music pieces that suits the visuals and the flow of the story this well. I was literally riveted when i fucking see the visual and the music blending in, in such an extraordinary manner. Despite being my second anime movie watched (prior to part 1 and 2 to kizumonogatari), this most definitely is one of the fucking best thing i've ever watched in my entire life. I've been missing out man holy shit. The work being put in the art and details really is the one thing that amazes me despite me skipping a few parts as i watch the movie because at first, i didn't expected much from it. And man, i was so wrong. I had to actual rewatch the entire thing 2 times on my PC, and 1 more times on my bigger screen (aka tv screen). This shit was too great it amazes me. Definitely deserved the no #1 spot on myanimelist.

I'm really picky with anime and some of my friends watch anime i recommend because when I say it's good they believe it. When i rated this 11/10 they freaking laugh! Cause i became a fanboy of this movie, maybe i was wrong watching it really late at night but I don't regret it 😂

There are still more of them, although that depends on your taste. The Girl Who Jumped Through Time, Summer Wars, Wolf Children, Haruhi the movie, the film from this director Garden of Words, then there is slightly mental, but nevertheless genius Paprika and also Perfect Blue. Try them. You will love them or hate them, there is no middle road for these.

SENJI ED spoiler alert for those who haven't watched it yet. Basically taki went back in time and switched places with mitsuha to avert the catastrophe. It was not directly stated that mitsuha's father believed what taki(in mitsuha's body) said regarding how the comet would split and how the separated part would destroy the town. I hope this helped. Been watching it crazy and still falling deeper in love with the movie 🎥❤️

      +Minh Duc Nguyen
      Spoiler Alert
Taki inside Mitsuha convinced her father partly because of Mitsuha's grandmother. Below are the evidences:
      1. Grandmother told Mitsuha that she and Futaha (Mitsuha's mother) had a similar body swapping dreams and experiences.
      2. That means Mitsuha's father was in place of Taki when he got married to Futaha.
      3. Taki inside Mitsuha said that those experiences (by grandmother and mother) were to save the town from this day's tragedy.
      4. When Mitsuha approached her father and pulled his tie, the father said "Who are you?," suggesting he realize something strange is happening though he does not know what it is at this stage.
      5. When Mitsuha got to his office for the second time and Yotsuha said "Mitsuha !," their grandmother was sitting on the sofa.
      6. So one way to understand the situation is that her grandmother told the father the body swapping experience of Mitsuha. And because the father had the same experience when he got married to Futaha, he remembered the experience at the site and believed it must be true.

This anime is straight up inspired by "the lake house" which played by keanu reeves and Sandra bullock but the best thing about this anime isnt about how these two lovers preventing one of them from death. their love not only transcend time but save an entire town.... i mean............................ fuck... the two love birds saved 500+ people with only 104 injured during the evacuation. their love litterally change history.

Honestly, I've felt disappointed after seeing Kimi no na wa. Some positives first: the art is amazing as you'd expect from him, though for me it was a bit too thick in terms of color. I enjoyed the body switch hook and that whole first half was very enjoyable, wish it was longer. I didn't like the inbetween music and montage though, it felt less like watching a movie and more like 2, 3 episodes of an anime series.
Now the negatives: I suppose it's Makoto Shinkai's style, but some scenes in the film cringeworthy. It's nothing to do with the plot (which I did enjoy!) but more the tropeyness. *Spoilers*:
Stuff like how he meets her on the edge of the crater right during twilight. How they just HAPPEN to meet eyes in the end riding the trains. It's just typical romance anime BS. I can't suspend my disbelief when watching stuff like that because you just *know* the director decided he'd have some of these scenes before he figured out the story progression to get there. It's not organic and feels forced. Problem is that this happens so often in anime that I fell out of love with anime in general, and it's dismaying that seemingly all other anime fans don't share my position, they just love this stuff.

    • @yuratchkaplisetskys3063

      *SPOILER ALERT*
Yes, there are some things that are completely convenient plot points.
However, you're also looking at an anime that has a convenient plot point *as it's basis*. Switching bodies? Three years apart? That in itself is something completely unnatural and convenient.
Personally, I'd say it's more like a fate and destiny thing. Their body switching happened because their soul mates and destined to be. Their random encounters with each other are also the same way.
But then, even that's not a long shot. We pass by so many people in our lives everyday. Is it unnatural for people to by random chance end up seeing each other multiple times?
It's also important to consider that Mitsuha always wanted to live in Tokyo. Perhaps she was also drawn to the specific area where Taki lives due to lingering memories. It makes sense then that they'd eventually pass each other, living in the same place. They did spend 8 years searching after all.
Also, consider their consistent feeling of "missing someone, something". Naturally they'd be looking out of a window to see outside, that's probably become a habit due to how they feel.
Either way, it's your opinion and that's completely fine. Have a nice day~
