I went to the Tennessee game in 1975 in Memorial Coliseum and watched Bernard King drop a bomb on Kentucky. He was as good an offensive player as has ever lifted a basketball. He is in the same group as Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Oscar Robinson, Wilt, Kareem, Michael Jordan, Kobe, and Lebron. No telling how many points he would have had without the injury.

true fans knew all about Bernard King. losing 2 years in his prime hurt him and then going to washington where little attention was paid with magic, jordan , thomas, drexler, etc. playing didnt help sadly enough.

My all time favorite with John Havlicek only because he was a Buckeye BK was unreal best shooter I have ever seen and his return from injuries was one of the greatest comebacks ever (#30) should be retired by the Knicks He finally got redeemed with the HOF I am so glad he got to see this and get the props he so greatly deserves a class act and without the two and a half lost seasons from injuries he would have scored. 5-6000 more points

Possibly the greatest player in SEC history with Maravich being his only competition . I have never seen a more relentless player . Bernard King was the SEC player of the year three years in a row . He led the league in rebounding all three years and led the league in scoring 2 of the three years finishing 2nd one year by 2 percentage points to teammate Ernie Grunfeld . The thing about King was he was a great team player . He didn't take bad shots . He shot in the upper 50 percent He went to NBA after 3 years at Tennessee and some of the greatest players in NBA history simply could not guard him . Julius Irving said King was the most difficult player he ever faced . He wasn't fancy or flashy just efficient . What a Great Player he was .
I use to watch Bernard King play in Madison Square Garden & what a thrill it was to watch him score effortlessly. He was just unstoppable & a great team leader. One of greatest all time scorer.
Still the greatest offensive player the Knicks ever had. And He carried mediocre Knick teams in 83' and 84' on his back. His knee injury was heartbreaking. Knick fans were devastated.
I watched that injury live on MSG cable. It was a game against the Kansas City Kings. My old man and I were speechless after watching BK go down with that knee injury. I always thanked my parents for cable TV back in the day. I loved those Knicks teams growing up. It was fun to watch them. Living on LI, it was also possible to watch some Celtics games with a good tuned TV antenna. Or to simply listen to the games over the radio.
Being a Celtics fan, I clearly remember Cedric Maxwell guaranteeing that Bernard wouldn't get fourty against them in the playoffs and King lit them up just like he had done against everyone else. One of the great players that didn't win a title doesn't take away the fact that in his prime, Bernard was KING!
I watched Bernie play in the '80s like it was a religion. He was and is a badass! And I'm from Tucson, Arizona. That quick release and DUNK was uncanny! I watched WWOR on cable to watch the Knicks and Bernie!
When healthy, that's the word, UNSTOPPABLE. Silky smooth. Never saw another like him that could be going full steam and go absolutely straight vertical as the defender's "drift" created the space for the shot. Listening to his audiobook. He narrates it. Love his honesty.
The quickness pf his shots were ridiculous. The only NBA game I ever got to attend was in Atlanta. He had a hand injury and his hand was all taped up and I actually thought he was not going to play.I believe he dropped 43 on the hawks.I was like how do you shoot the ball that well with your hand taped up like that. One of the best alltime.

I have long said I feel Jordan is the greatest largely because he accomplished what he did with less help than some other greats. Nonetheless, Bernard had even less help than Jordan. And no he did not equal Jordan's team success not by a long shot. But he did have even a bigger load to carry and he did pretty damn well offensively. Getting those very very ordinary, at best, Knicks teams to the playoffs. And they gave the powerful Celtics a good run that one year to seven games.
Kareem was shutdown down a whole quarter by Old Wilt. Shot blocked atleast 5 times and ball stolen fron Kareem atleast 4 times. It made Kareem look like a Highschooler Baller temporarily.
If his knees were healthy they win some championships. NY already ran the World Champion Celtics 7 games with Bird, McHale, Parish, DJ, Etc. If Bernard never hurt his knees think about it....Young Ewing comes into the league without the pressure of having to score. So he can fulfill that role of defense, shot blocking, that had people comparing him to Bill Russell. Whole dynamic changes.
