Breaking the Bank! Busting into an Antique Piggy Bank *STUFFED* with Old Coins. Forgotten for 80yrs!

- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- My local antique dealer, Tim, texted me to tell me he had something for me and to swing by his shop. Intrigued, I went over right away. He had two old piggy banks - filled with coins, that he picked up from an estate purchase. He gave them to me as an early Christmas present, he said! Could this really be stuffed with 80 year old coins?!

@@timpuls4425Thanks so much for watching, Jaxtyn! I'm glad you're enjoying my videos! All the best for 2024!
Hi! Why don't you use gloves to take your coins?
@@eloiloranger7362I'm primarily looking through very circulated coins. If I was looking through BU coins, I'd likely want to use gloves. Thanks so much for watching!
@CADRollHunte
Today that piggy bank is in haven 😂
Turn it upside down and work the coins out with a butter knife but it's apparent I had a creative childhood
I'm sure with enough time and effort that would have worked. I've used that technique before. But the hammer was much more expedient!
You don't have to break the bank, use a dinner knife to work the coins out, we often did this with piggy banks.
That would certainly have been one way to do it! thanks so much for watching!
Imagine every average 1st grader, who is able to do it, without leaving a trace. This guy though doesn't seem to be much of a handy man
@@Michel-7.7.7 But what fun would that be?! 🤣
@@CADRollHunter watching you fumbeling and curseing would be quite funny😉
@@Michel-7.7.7There might have been a bit of that, off camera!
Boo hoo! Poor little piggy! Should have tried the old butter knife trick we used to get into our siblings banks for a quick withdrawal.🤪❤
I tried that, but I didn't have the patience for it. The hammer was, well, expedient!!
Use to use a butter knife. Turn the piggy over with the butter knife in the slot. Shake the bank while trying to get the coins to fall out with the knife.
How much fun would that have been?!
Very thoughtful of Tim. Someone's piggy bank treasure is now yours. Couldn't believe you had those silver coins. Normally if it was a kid's piggy bank it would have the lower denomination coins in it. Was glad to see those wartime tombac 5 cents. Happy holidays.
Thanks, Ogir! The silver was a lovely surprise, for sure!
I till have one of these piggy banks... Haven't made up my mind to break open it yet. Anyways great video! Hope you have a great day ahead!
Thanks! You too! Always appreciate you watching!
@@CADRollHunter thank you! The pleasure is absolutely mine!
What a great pickup. That poor piggy really guarded a fine treasure. Congrats
He did his job well. I'm sorry he had to pay the price!
OMG!!! I had the same piggy bank as a child. Probably worth more now than what was ever put into it. LOL!
And they're getting harder to find, what with all the hammering! ;0
That’s very cool finding really cool coins in an old piggybank! I’d love to see what your albums look like now. That would be a great video!
Thanks, Julie! Some day I might give an update on my collection. This was a fun one, of course. So many old coins! Like a time capsule!
That piggy bank was like a time capsule...wow
Exactly - it was so cool to realize it really had been filled almost 80 years ago and sat untouched that entire time!
Amazing silver and tombac nickels! It was really fun to go through it with you, of course,
the only regret is the piggy bank itself...
Thanks! This was lots of fun. Just feel a little bad about our piggy friend!
This video was awesome, going to be hard to top this with a coin roll hunt
I sorted all my metal detecting pennies, 93 copper 63 zinc/steel, all the zinc/steel were wasted except for a 2006 in good shape, but it wasn't a rare one
True enough - not likely to get these sorts of coins in a coin roll hunt!
Kind of sad, those early pennies actually took drops of sweat to earn
True enough! Thanks so much for watching!
Amazing!!!
I just finnished watching this I am glad i did AWESOME PICKUP
Thanks @cweedcoins! This was a fun one, for sure!
Such a great and hilarious intro!
I'm glad you enjoyed that! Thanks for watching!
I had one of those solid piggies. Hate to say... you could get them al out with a butter knife
Yeah, but what fun would that be?!
@CADRollHunter well first off you woukd still have that cool piggy. But seriously each and every coun removed is a reward as you go. When I was a kid we never knew how much was in the bank till we counted it. And that was always fun! Anyhow I was just saying it's pretty easy using a butter knife
@@sixfigureskibum For sure - I didn't have the patience for that, and I think it wouldn't have been as entertaining!! 🐖🔨🤣
The vibe when you had to smash the old one reminded me of all those UA-cam videos about "dispatching" crabs and lobsters. "It's the only way, and we'll do this cleanly and humanely."
I still had to close my eyes!
Incredible score!
Thanks, it was lots of fun, and there were lots of great coins in there!!
Not seen it
This is gonna be fire. I found some Buffalo nickels in my parents but nothing else
Thanks for watching!!
@@CADRollHunter yw
Great score, James! You whacked that piggy bank Tony Soprano style! Coming from New Jersey, I would have done the same!😂
I'm just trying to figure out what to do with the pieces. Burlap sack and a brick? A little concrete job?! They'll never find him!!
I also saw you getting several King George VI
It's always good to see some old coins!!
I have that same Newfoundland coin, love the channel.
Glad you're enjoying my videos. Thanks so much for watching!
Wow, awesome finds! Thank you for sharing - hope you had a great Christmas!
Thank you! You too!
Full of funny money. That’s what I call Canadian money.
Thanks so much for watching! Feel free to check out my other videos on funny money! Have a great New Year!
What a great little hunt! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! Merry Christmas, Emanuel!
Thank you Mr. Piggy for your sacrifice. The pennies you contained were awesome. Make sure Mr. Piggy has an honorable memorial and burial.
He will be fondly remembered. He did his job diligently for nearly 80 years, keeping those pennies safe!
Hey, did you get the envelope I sent?
@@nicolerichter-smith2573I checked the mail after I saw this message and it was there! It's a bit worse for wear, but hopefully everything was there!
@@CADRollHunter cool. Hope all the coins are there.
Man, this was awesome! That Newfoundland quarter is awesome! Super fun video! Thanks for sharing! 👽🤙🏻
Thanks a ton! It was lots of fun, and I certainly wasn't expecting silver like that!
R.I.P. piggies!😪
Nice finds.
Thanks 👍
Them 20.s are very slick for in a bank since the 40.s!! I say they was not in there near as long as u think. But cool find.
That's possible, we'll never know for sure!
Great treasure hunt James. I feel bad for the poor little pork chop, but it yielded quite a few goodies. Especially the silvers.
The silver definitely made up for that guilty feeling for smashing him to pieces!!
@@CADRollHunter the 1917 quarter & 1919 dime were really sweet finds. I've never seen a Tomback nickel before either. Were they minted for just that year?
@@DWCNCThe tombac nickels were, essentially, war nickels. Partway through 1942 they started minting the 1942 nickels in tombac, with the regular beaver design. In 1943, they continued the tombac nickels with a modied "V" design for victory. In 44 and 45 they nited the V nickesl, but changed the composition again to chromium plated steel.
@CADRollHunter oh......ok. So mid way through '42-45 Canada has their own War Nickels!! That's so cool. I just learned something new. Thank you, James. 🤙🏼
No problem at all - I'm still learning, too@@DWCNC We actually had war nickels in the early fifties as well, with 51-54 made of chromium plated steel again, as well demand for nickel was high during the Koren War.
I wonder what would have been if you found 1921 50 cents or 1936 dot or 1944 nickel tombac..💣 Flintstone run & jump : )) Amazing find👏👏👏🤜 Thx for sharing ❤
Any of those would have been incredible finds! But, it was already pretty cool!!
That is awesome thank you so very much for sharing hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas 👍👍❤️
Thank you! You too!
Very cool hunt!!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks @WalkerMagnet63! Merry Christmas!
Very cool "Time capsule". Nice finds. Happy Holidays to you!
Thanks, Tom! Happy Holidays to you, as well!
Cool George V quarter
Use a butter knife. I could empty it in 5 minutes
It's a bit too late for that now! lol! Yes, I could have done that, but that wasn't going to be dramatic enough!
Great video!
Thanks so much for watching! I appreciate it!
I inherited my grandfathers coin collection and it was much like the one you were showing coins that were just put away while they were still new. My grandfather moved to Canada in the early 50s and so some of it was really beautiful dimes and other coins from that time. That obviously had not been circulated for very long. It was cool to go through his collection and see money from all points of his life, and as he traveled later in life money from all over the world.
@@therevolutionscript I had much the same experience when I inherited my uncle's collection. He had international coins from his travels, and lots of coins he'd put away when he was younger. A glimpse into his past.
get the glue. lol
Lol! I think he's beyond repair!! Thanks so much for watching!
I think i would use a small hole saw to carefully drill out the belly of the ceramic piggy bank
Now that would be a great way to preserve the antique pig, and ensure that one could get the coins in and out easily. I'm sure you could even find a piggy bank plug to plug the hole. Thanks for watching!
@@CADRollHunter great info. New subscriber
@@bcbigfoot112 Thanks so much - I really appreciate it! I hope you enjoy my other videos. Have a great day!
@@CADRollHunter thanks. Happy hunting
For years I got coins out of my bank when I was young by using a butter knife.
That works, for sure!
People have probably asked you this but would you ever make a video touring your collection?
It's something I'd consider. Thanks for the suggestion, and thanks for watching!
Ive done this plenty of times to get coins out of a plastic beer bottle with a much smaller slot. Just an fyi
Thanks so much for watching! I hope you enjoyed the video!
Did you find any King George v in that piggy bank
I did! But you'll have to watch the whole video to see what I found!!
That Mercury dime is not a 2 over1 is it??
No - that would have been great, though!
Butter knife works
mmmm Bacon
I love the smell of bacon in the morning!
Please send me the pieces of porcelain
🤔You can buy cheap diamond tile hole saws for $3, the pig was worth more than the coins?
I'm sure the pig would have been cherished by someone!
Woah! How this is the most viewed video you have!
I know, right? I guess people wanted to see the piggy get it!
Those coins could have been removed by sliding them out, one by one, on the edge of a butter knife.
That is correct. But what fun would that have been? Thanks so much for watching!
You know there is a 1995 doubled die worth quite a bit
Yes, I'm always looking for that one!
Who did the stuffing lol
The piggy bank was part of an estate purchase, so I'm assuming the person who passed might have been the person to fill it up as a child in the 40s.
Not sure this looks little sus would been easy get bunch cents put in old bank but anyway not anything super rare
Thanks for watching. This is exactly how Tim got it as part of the estate purchase. The fact that there was nothing super-rare in there is a strong indication it's legit. It was pretty cool to see what a child (presumably) would have stuffed away almost 80 years in piggy bank.
Use a tweezers
Rubber-tipped ones, of course!
You spend so much time saying nothing ….
It's an art. Thanks for watching!
You had some good fun, I can tell lol
I certainly did - I hope you had fun watching!
Next time think Kintsugi 😅😉🫶🏼✌🏼 amazing finds though!
Getting the glue out now!!
