For those looking for a shiny meltan in 2024, the announcement has been released and the event will be between june 28th 2024 @10:00am through july 3rd 2024 @8pm local time.
In order to get a meltan, you have to perform the directions in the video above. However, if you’re looking for a shiny meltan, you have to do the same thing but only when Pokémon go announces an availability for shiny meltan. To everyone’s luck, the announcement has been released and the event will be between june 28th 2024 @10:00am through july 3rd 2024 @8pm local time.
If you weren't around for the secret release of Meltan in Pokémon GO or if you weren't able to buy a Nintendo Switch with Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, sadly you were not able to have access to a mystery box. Tons of people complained to Niantic and Nintendo. So they came up with the Pokémon Home idea to integrate all of it together and also give people mystery boxes in Pokémon Go. Hence the reason why you get a special Melmetal for connecting Pokémon Home with Pokémon Go.
Done an entire box, caught like 60-70 meltans... no shiny. Hoping the next one will bring some luck Edit: Just done another box... still nothing. Edit 2: Done another Box and got 2 shinies!
I’ve had good luck with the Meltan boxes in the past. Something I like to do is tag Pokémon in pogo with a ‘transfer to home’ tag so whenever shiny meltan is back it’s quick & easy to find what I want to transfer. Also y’all keep in mind the event is from the 15th to the 30th so essentially you will have about 5 chances to spawn a shiny meltan from each box. Plan out when you will open the boxes. If you start today (06/16), then the next box can be opened on 06/19 etc. Although im not sure if the countdown for this event will be the regular 3 day wait period. Either way keep that in mind.

You mentioned having Mega Steelix evolved while doing it. I did that and got 3-6 xl candy per catch. Opened the box again yesterday without having evolved Mega Steelix and still got 3-5 xl candy per catch. Got 66 catches, 2 shiny yesterday. More importantly, after opening the box just 2 times, I was able to accumulate close to 400 xl candy and maxed my hundo. Woohoo
I was lucky to figure this out in my first month of play (I only started on July 30th 2021) Vids like this one and others from you and the others too, has gotten me to level 43 in less than a year. This is one of the ways I got so far so fast.

You can't open the box if you have an incense on. My trick to maximize xp and dust: I use 2 lucky eggs and 2 star pieces. As soon as I catch a meltan, I go into friends and open a gift. Then when I leave friends, most of the time the next meltan is already spawned. I don't know if it's just my phone or a Niantic glitch, but spawns appear after opening gifts. I also try to open my box during double xp spotlight hours if I can't get out due to weather. You can click expanded group transfer in settings so you don't have to encounter the annoying warning each time you transfer a junk meltan one by one.
So missing a lot of info with this. 1. Highly recommend sending pokemon to lets go if its gen 1/aloan gen 1 due to no energy cost. You can transfer to home from there. 2. You completely glossed over the energy part. Thats a pretty important thing to talk about. If someone transfers say a shiny legendary that will use up all the energy making it harder to xfer pokemon when box cool down is up. 3. you didn't talk about the box cool down itself and how its normally 3 days but now is 2 days and will also show as "1 day remaining" even if theres 5 min left till its available again. Thus ppl should make a note of the day and time they open and to keep checking from there.
I personally do not power anything up until I have a need/use for it. At the moment, there is not a need for Mewtwo (and honestly there is very little need for Mewtwo) so I would hold off.
For raiding or battle league? Raiding - yeah totally! Now find 5 more and get a ghost raid team. Do 6 later for psychic raid team. Battle league - Solid pick for Master league only ( Rank ~14 ). I'd wait to power up though until the Mewtwo event is over before going all in. Now do 100+ more raids to get the XL candy needed.

do you have a switch with pokemon lets go eevee or pikachu? if you do you can send something to that. or you could sign into someone elses pokemon home to transfer. meltan i think can also be traded so you can get one from someone else if you really have to
