    That raincoat idea is amazing even for western clothing! I’m a wheelchair user and my legs always get soaking wet, because they jut out, and i’ve never figured out what to do. Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks!

    Thank you so much! I've always wondered... what kind of footwear did they wear when it snowed heavily? Like in Hokkaido??

    • @BillyMatsunaga
      @BillyMatsunaga  4 роки тому +11

      alsrudtj124 hi! I’ve a friend who owns antique Geta that were apparently made for snow and they had spikes in the sole, but I do not believe this is what Hokkaido ppl did wear. However, Hokkaido is way to far from where I live and has a whole other history and tradition, so I would have to do some serious research when talking about Hokkaido. In the rest of Japan, though, in history they wore normal nimaiha Geta with bear feet every day way up into the 20th century. Today we wear amazōri or bōkanzōri when it’s snowing.

    Thank you for another amazing video, Billy! ❤
    I do wonder if it's possible to have a video about putting kimono on men? I know it's technically easier, but every time I dress my husband, I feel like I am doing something wrong. Is it possible to make an example video of how to dress a man in kimono?
    I also hope that you're staying safe with all the stuff that's going on. I hear Japan is managing relatively well, but take care and stay safe! ❤

      Nariasan hi ❤️ I’ve definitely planned videos containing men’s kimono, but first I want to finish my husband’s outfit that I’m sewing currently (and not getting forward because my sewing classes had been cancelled for a month)... it’s coming!
      Stay safe, too! ❤️ I’m already self-isolating for 3 weeks now. Besides that it’s getting boring, I should be fine 😊❤️

    Diese video ist sehr gut, vielen dankeshon! Aber mein deutsch ist nicht gut, und so ist es besser wenn ich english sprache. When u talked about amazouri I thought u were showing zouri with tsumakawa integrated on the front tip. I have something similar you showed after amazouri and amageta, but it's not a removable tip, it's like a kind of clear slipper that can be put on every kind of zouri and secured at the sides of the hanao with snap buttons, and it has a non slippery sole. About kimono rain coat or amagoto I sewed myself one with some waterproof fabric and I made a nibushiki one with michiyuky style jacket and susoyoke. Mine it's baby pink lol. Btw It's very usefull the trick you show at the end with a regular raincoat, but I think you can even use a second one for the top part as a sort of cape. Grüße aus Italien.
    P.S. warum gibt es keine deutsche KDJ?

    What should be the height of the hem in the one-piece raincoat? Can it cover all the kimono or should we leave a piece of the kimono hem showing?

    • @BillyMatsunaga
      @BillyMatsunaga  4 роки тому +2

      Deboladonna hi! Of course there is no length set. It can cover the hem completely or leave the hem showing for a few cm. That’s up to you 😉

    Every time I discover something I've missed before and this time I saw a gorgeous obidome (at 7:30min of the video). I wonder if it is handmade by "soutache technique "?

    I do like the raincoats very much! How come they mostly are made of silk and don't get damaged?

    • @annedavis3340
      @annedavis3340 3 роки тому +2

      I don't know if this is the only reason, but what water CAN do to silk is change the finish. The problem for silk is in part that if ONE part gets wet (splashes for instance) just those parts will have a different finish and it will stand out.
      However, some silk weaves are better with water. A satin (the really shiny smooth finish) won't hold up as well as a taffeta (it's woven more like a normal weave like cheap non-knit cotton is) can, etc.
      I have silk satin pillowcases I wash. They don't look like they did when I got them because I wash them. But also the water spots from normal use don't come out when you wash them, it's permanent. So the answer isn't always "you got part wet so get the rest wet too" (I HAVE done that to at least one silk dress, though. Someone knocked a huge glass of water on me in it so I went in the bathroom and soaked the whole dress immediately so it would at least all look the same when it dries. It's a difficult choice.)
      So it could just be that raincoats are made from silk that looks ok when you get it wet, because the intended use case is it gets wet.
      I don't know if THIS is part of it too, but there are materials you can put on fabrics to protect them from stains or water. I absolutely don't know if they use one of those treatments for these so don't quote, but they COULD.
      I know more about western fashions than about kimono, but I hope some info on silk was still helpful :)

    How are the raincoats treated, so that they are not affected by the rain? I thought they were silk, as well?
