- Hi! Welcome to Tech Teller. Before we start today's video, please subscribe to our channel, which is the encouragement that we can create more videos. OK, let's move on to today’s topic. As for today’s video, let’s focus on Huawei’s photonic chip. OK, let’s get more details about it.
Chang Lin (常林) has returned to China. He is currently an assistant professor at Peking University.
A patriotic citizen of China. I salute those who return back to face the huge challenges facing China due to the sanctions USA is imposing on China. I am not from China, but I salute those who sacrifice their personal gain for the greater good. You will be remembered, and I believe China will overcome this challenge.😂
Good luck. And sukses ful
You'll be surprised how much money China is pouring into research, I suspect more and more Chinese will be returning back, not everyone like to be a second class citizen in a foreign country, being racially abused everyday.
where did he go to school for his phd again?
Omg. Just an asst prof. He will run away soon
With a long history of racism, discrimination and persecution of Chinese people in the US that goes back to the days of the first Chinese immigrants, it is difficult to understand why some Chinese choose to reside and work there.
There are some Chinese without backbones

The United States has been complaining that China rips the experts off its industry and universities. If that is the case, why doesn't US nurture just its own citizens? Talents should be free to choose where they want to work in. Talents belong to the whole world, not the United States.
Americans are now too stoned to innovate anything after decades of getting high daily. America now enters the new 'Stoned Age'.😂😂😂😂
Everiweel. She working. Free
I liked your comments.
Get real West is all a lout making richer not reward cutting edge scientists?!.
@@brianliew5901 What are you talking about America not being able to innovate? All the talent in America work for the military industrial complex. Which is not exactly the best thing
Photonic chips come with lots of challenges that need to be overcome. Steady harnessing the source of light and development of non silicon material used to convey the light effectively over the chip path is truly difficult. Hope China researchers can succeed.
Most of the talent peoples working in Us are from other countries
Very true. Without the brains from around the world, the US would be the shxt-hole country Trump talked about. Also in that sense, the USA is the largest thief of the intellectual properties in the world.
Absolutely right the USA hasn’t been pirating nurses doctors engineers from others countries for ages stealing prominent talents and depriving those countries of desperately needed professionals
Mexican talent is in the USA, but is starting to go back to Mexico, USA creates violence and disruption in Mexico, but current president has put a stop to that, making it better for Mexican talents to stary and for other to return.
I believe you, because of that freedom and respect.only here in America.
@@manuelcabe9669 in all the American countries.
Great conviction to the motherland. All wishes for China as the Asian Giant.
I've said many times that China will not play catch up with the likes of TSMC and Samsung in silicon chip. I also believe that China will very soon overcome her chip problems.
Your beliefs means shit lol. All I see is people fleeing and its economy tanking under this dictator’s third term lol. Huawei hasn’t couldn’t do anything once they lost access to Google services. They couldn’t create their own OS, lol, now that they don’t have access to western technology, they can’t steal anymore technology, lol.
Competition is always good and china should innovate. After all it's only technology which drives human growth. However what's scary is that china will no doubtably put military use first and foremost. The new regime is obsessed with control over it's citizens and that should be a real worry, for anyone who cares about privacy or freedom of expression.
@@varadillath4508 ???What can the Communist Party gain by controlling citizens? The Communist Party does not have any competitors in China. It does not need means of control, but only needs to ensure the economic needs of Chinese citizens. Use your brain. What is the role of a government? The government's role is to ensure domestic stability. If it can unite the people at the same time and make economic achievements, it is an excellent government. The CPC can get the support of more than 90% of citizens because it can meet our needs. There is no conspiracy.
@@varadillath4508 Why are you so concerned about Chinese citizens or you're just pretending to? Are you Chinese? There's an old Chinese saying; the emperor wasn't eager to get onto the concubine's bed but the eunuch was.
@@varadillath4508 By the way, I don't like the Communist Party very much, but I will still support it. It's not because we didn't have a choice. China has a history of thousands of years. The dynasties come and go. We don't care who is in power. We care who can meet our practical needs. The Chinese are very pragmatic. As for Western democracy, it is a joke in the eyes of the Chinese. When you laugh at our one party system, we also laugh at your election system.
I believe a collective effort can do anything to beat anyother country monopoly
Photonic and/or graphene microchips might be the future, but already today the Chinese semiconductor manufacturer SMIC has promising capacity for ordinary microchips, such as: "SMIC’s N+1 does not use extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUVL), so the fab company does not need to procure further expensive equipment from ASML."

There is also Nanoimprint lithography invented by the Japanese. The Japanese have been suffering a similar problem as China have with the US control of global markets, so I would imagine Japanese patents would be a lot easier to licence and more reliable than US patented technology. Japan could do with hedging some of its business with China rather than relying on the US for all it s needs. They are facing another round of stagflation at the moment.
Pay them well
CHINA mit HUAWEI and its vast resources of super brains scientists will be able to overcome any challenges. 👍 👍🇨🇳

Talents that can help humanity shouldn't politicize and profiteer for just one country
Good for China. Its a lot to looking after 1.4billion peoples. As everyone knows they can't eat one month of food in one meal and can't take half a penny with themselves once their number is up, so do you think to living life along with people's around you or be a greedy and selfishness. All the best wishes for you.
they need more freedom and safer life. Turns out freedom is part of a high standard of living and works very well for attracting high tech talents and ambitious people
Since Trump and his abject hatred and racism, plus the rise of racism against Asians, AMD CEO is Chinese, NVidia is Chinese... MIT and Stanford educated. I, say let the Trumptards develop American chips. Oh, an IQ of 80 not good enough...
High pay is not the answer for the problem. It is the heart that holds dear to the love of the motherland. China's current standard of living is not all that high compare to Western nations. So even a lower salary will not affect their standard of living. I think the Chinese govt would have by now a standard procedure to welcome such talents and that they are well taken care off not only in the semi conductors industry but any others as well. Those who wants to return but haven't are probably afraid of threats made against them as in the case of some scientists who are now being or pending prosecutions. These are how they play but then the whole world seems to be oblivious to it except for some countries that have awaken to their highhanded, dirty and unscrupulous tactics. And Chinese included. Ukraine crisis is one good example. China set an exemplary standard of taking no sides and avoiding war if can. There is no clear winner in a war in these days of modern warfare. Who suffers? The people suffer. Who get away and enjoy life in the deep underground bunkers. The politicians, the elite warlords and the military arms suppliers and their families and gosh you poor donkeys have to fend for yourself.
go, go, go!
感謝美國的封鎖,總不能一直釣魚給中國吃! 中國加油!!
if given a choice, people will always pick freedom over money.
I would have thought that a lithography machine is not needed to make electronic chips from non-silicon materials?
Tech secrecy through sanctions is actually harmful to human developments. However, it became clear that technologies can be shared among western countries, but not with the Chinese, thus this technology competition is rooted on race and nationality. It seems China deeply understand this through history in the past.
It is ironical that students who are supported in their own country in their education can just leave and work for a competitor. It shows that talent in science is no guarantee of maturity, e.g. on world affairs..
"Chang Lin will never be allowed to return to China". American democracy at its best.
Never lecture Democracy to people's when you're can't see BIG picture what really happening around the world and being living long enough to see things with your two eyes and listen with your two ears.
Will the United States kidnap Chang Lin, put him in the house arrest and force him to do photonic research in the US?
@@davidhoang6360 Hmm...that statement applies to both Americans and the Chinese, though it's far easier to find out what is really happening in the US.
It's quite humorous to watch Chinese tech propaganda though, as a few days ago I watched a similar video regarding how China was already making Graphene chips which were 10,000 times faster than TSMC's 7nm.
Oh, apparently China is also somehow making 2nm chips, and were the first to do so. IBM would obviously beg to differ, and so would I, but just like this video, the CCP floats the info and it gets pumped out to ppl.
Though I am sure China has ppl on both photo chips and are doing heavy research into graphene, the fact is they aren't leading the world in development. If they were, Taiwan wouldn't mean shit to them bc TSMC would no longer be close to the bleeding edge.
Realistically telling their ppl _"We stole what we could and made up a decade of progress in 2 years, but we are at least another decade behind in design and possibly more in manufacturing/fabrication tech. Huawei is having a chip crisis and is already generations behind not just Apple and Qualcomm, but the smaller manufacturers too. We can't import what we need atm and no one will let us near their tech so stealing it is a lot harder than usual right now. If we fall much further behind we will either have to take Taiwan, or make a deal with the West that would help the majority of Chinese citizens but hurt the CCP in regards to screwing poorer nations (and well to do ones) out of their ports, precious mineral mines etc etc.. We may also have to leave Taiwan be."_ So fall way, way behind to the point where catching up is nigh impossible. Tell the world they are willing to cooperate as equal partners and actually live up to their agreements instead of this shadier than the CIA bullshit they pull now, or start WW3. Hmm...
Coming to a compromise is the best for everyone, but Xi would lose some power, so I could 100% see him either choosing to lock citizens down even more as China falls further and further behind, or helping to facilitate blowing up 25% of the world's population in a giant War no one wins just to *_attempt_* to save face since he can literally *NEVER* say he is/was wrong. He's one of those ppl who would rather rule over rubble than be an incredibly wealthy former CCP leader. World history will be brutal to this man, and unless China takes over the world, he will be earmarked among the most evil leaders in World history. And that's without knowing the majority of the crap he has put into motion. When the sunlight of time eventually illuminates everything, who knows how appalling it will truly end up being.
Of course they are the world leader in photonic computing... _cough_ nonsense _cough_
To overcome chip problems you need your own IP. Engineers just can't use what they're used to if it utilizes unauthorized IP. Developing your own for the whole chip tech stack is a heroic endeavour and would likely just be always in catch up mode. Unless you have your own valuable IP to trade for its use.
Free Chang Lin!
Should stop them from coming to the US in the first place.
Just pay them upfront money of a few millions. China has trillions n can lend them to huawei.
If lithography machines are so hard to produce (cuz of 100,000 parts) how come the Netherlands can produce it? They have that many suppliers that can make all those parts and none of them comes from China?
Maybe Modi 🐮 designed it?

Oh stop it. To accuse a channel that doesn't toe a political line of your choice without facts is a slander.
Maybe China should look at why all the highly educated people leave. It is not just salary but atmosphere, government, and culture. Money only takes you so far, if you are not free to live in peace. That is why many rich people live in the West even though their businesses are in their home country.

Nurture begins in childhood. Sheer tenacity, perserverence, hard work, intelligence are built in traits of the person DNA. Going overseas to get further education and to become world smart.
@@panyaboonc5621 I can't agree more with you. To nurture a talent, we do not only need the best education. We need a good raw material which is humans with the best brains. If the US education is so good, it can train cows to be chip experts. The US is full of cows. (No sarcasm intended.)

How does a Chinese channel operate on the free web? Don't you need a VPN to even Access UA-cam?
Depends on HOW do you perceive and define "free web". Nobody cares about your expectations, taste, intimacy, preferences and inclinations...Good luck 😂🤣🦍🤣😂
@@dexterminador Chill. It was a genuine question. Free web is by definition the access to the internet with no censorship whatsoever. I don't think anyone in the world would disagree that the internet in most of the world is uncensored. However in china as you can agree, it's heavily censored, therefore blocking access to information and leading to manipulation of the truth. Just like North Korea.
@@varadillath4508 in the US and Europe the internet is heavily censored with the outright banning of Russian, Iranian and other “enemy country” news and cultural channels. The west also uses the internet to proliferate their views and brainwash other people. The west even goes further to ban the literature and art of Russian cultural icons like Tchaikovsky.
China rightfully bans western mediums of brainwashing and has thus avoided the export of violent western culture and media disinformation which the west is so good at. Of course research, literature, and other cultural websites are still allowed for access in China which promotes greater enlightenment. Unfortunately, western news channels are not banned in China. I would suggest they ban them too as these are some of the worst purveyors of outright harmful lies. Asian, African, and Latin American news channels should only be permitted. The western media is too treacherous to be tolerated.
@@platosbeard4449 damn my guy is so brainwashed. In the west you can criticize their government openly and criticize policies. If something bad happens people can openly report it. China has one of the worlds worst freedom of press. That has nothing to do with western ideology. Also the west will provide you with platforms (such as UA-cam) where you can criticize the west. Will china let you do that? NO. Seriously have no idea how you can even compare the two. Plus it's not just the west. The whole world has issues with the Chinese government because of their tiger diplomacy. Using your logic, you shouldn't wouldn't people in western countries ban all pro Chinese media? Why haven't they? It's because the west and the rest of the world is tolerant and respects freedom of speech. Something you don't respect clearly. Also live how the only example countries you gave were tyrannical oppressive regimes. Iran is on the brink of collapse because the people have had enough. Russian conscripts are running away and the people of Russia are starting to hate Putin for starting a war. Are you really happy classing china with those countries?
@@varadillath4508 “in the west you can criticise the government’s policies”??? Tell that to Julian Assange and the countless political prisoners and assassinated activists in the US and U.K. Now tell me who’s brainwashed 🤣🤣🤣
Another of China’s story with violins on how they not only compete but prevail in the microchip industry. Stories like this is how they vent out their frustrations, but as can be seen from the fast, reality is another elusive thing. We don’t see any reason for former Chinese citizens to even go back to China to live their with their families when everything in their homeland is falling apart from the economy, real estate, education, the buildings and infrastructure, currency, foods, pandemic etc., etc. one has to be totally insane to do that.
The Axiom they use that “chickens always come home,” are good only for those with pea brains like chickens. Human being use their intellect and reason. It’s time to say goodbye once again to China!
