Wait what....... I googled how to find the height of a building and ended up on this video.. and the height of the building I'm trying to find is literally in the background of this video in Wilmington... wtf????? lol
I'm not 100% sure I understand your question. The elevation you see is what your cursor is on top of. So when my cursor was on top of the street, that was the elevation of the street above sea level. When it was on top of a building, that was the elevation of the top of the building above sea level. So subtracting the value on top of the building from the street elevation gives us the height of the building.
I tried doing this and it was temperamental. I'm looking at Cathedral heights: it worked from Bradford, England but in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland, despite the Cathedral being rendered in 3D, it didn't work :(
I needed to source this particular piece of info (building height) so bad... figured it couldn't be that hard but I just could not manage. to figure it out. Thank you for sharing this. SO easy. This is a real hook up for me. Thanks so much.
Have a question, how you have the answer I want to fly my drone, from a spot but want to make sure I'm high enough not to crash,is the a way to know how high I could set up, Thanks
Carlos Burgos First check that you are in a legal fly zone. Then I should say you should fly the drone higher than whatever the tallest building is in your city. Most drones like DJI tell you the height you are flying at. Hope this helps! ;)
I'm trying to measure the height of some homes around mine, but the curser is only showing the ground height, not the roof height. Do I need to change a setting?
Hey there, jonesrmj! Great video, indeed! New subscriber here and wanted to ask if you had any recommendations of the best tool for Architectural Designers to use to get the height of a Building, while conducting physical in-person Site visits (for existing Structures)? Again, thanks mega-much for this well-needed video, which helps a professional ton! Cheers!
Unfortunately, as mentioned in the video, this only works for buildings rendered in 3D so when it comes to buildings that aren't rendered in 3D, you are unfortunately out of luck.
@@jonesrmj I am doing good (RandomNewz Games is Worldwide) I want to do this in My Minecraft series. (I can not do Build-The-Earth but I just want to build tho.

LMAOO
Finally someone explained in details how to get the building elevation from Google Earth. Thank you very much! 👍🏻
No problem! Glad I could help! ;)
You can change Google Earth on Chrome (not Pro) to Feet under settings
Does it do elevations only per object or i can select an area and get those details for all objects in selected area?

@@jonesrmj thanks
Is there any api that gives this elevation number back by a given coordinate?
Or is there any way to extract this data programmatically?
how can we change the precision of the elev measurement (like in decimal) ?
I don’t think you can but idk. Maybe on Google Earth Pro there is a setting but idk.
Needed building height for re-zoning. You're awesome! Thank you for sharing!

Are the houses rendered in 3D? If not, then the method won’t work.
@@jonesrmj how to setting the google earth 3D? thankyou :)
Can you use this on mobile?
Nope, only desktop.

Hey there! Thanks for watching! I’m not quite sure what tools are used in that instance.
@@jonesrmj ah, totally understood. An any rate, this video is indeed a great starting point, no doubt!
jonesrmj what city is this?
Wilmington, Delaware
Did you know that there is a ruler tool on your upper task bar that is designed for ACCURATE measurements?
Tree height measure ?
why my google earth is 2d only
Okay man, but, what about 2d buildings? Not all buildings are 3d represented as well on Google Earth
Unfortunately, as mentioned in the video, this only works for buildings rendered in 3D so when it comes to buildings that aren't rendered in 3D, you are unfortunately out of luck.
Child me would go crazy with this
Thank you !!! Helped a lot
No Problem! Glad it helped! ;)
AWESOME TECHNIQUES! HOPEFULLY I COULD TRY IT!
Thanks! :)
I was looking for a vid like this thanks :)
Thanks for watching! Glad I could help! :)
Can we measure tree height with it?
Yes as long as the tree is rendered in 3D
@@jonesrmj great thanks for the info
R u using. Google earth pro...bro
I showed both in the video, but mainly used pro. It doesn't matter which one you use though.
