Tuning my first build by watching. Finally got the receiver to bind using your walk around the room technic. I think I was leaning in the wrong direction at first, but then I put my left foot in the air and bing bang boom... I fell over. Then it bound. Then my motors turned for the first time and it was very Cool. I changed the direction of the one rebel motor by switching the wiring as I saw on flite test. I also set aux 1 to arm the thing. Then I had a sammich. What was I talking about? Oh yeah... so, so far so good, Broseph. I'll name my first crash after you. Instead of yelling f**k, I'll holler Le Drib Le Drib!!!
Like me some Le Drib, going to watch more RotorRiot with him in and that other guy out. ;).. But this video is the quickest? No no, this vid is 24 mins. long, and he goes on nearly 5 min. rant about binding Spektrum. 20% of the video is worthless to 95% of the quad community... :) We's don't use Spektrum, we's use FrSky for those very reasons. That's from a guy that bought both DX8 and DX9. Someone buy my boy Drew a Taranis SE. hehe
I can set up Betaflight in my sleep, but HOLY CRAP, that small_angle=180 command is EXACTLY what I needed! I was just watching the video 'cause I love Drib and Rotor Riot, but hey, I actually learned something today, Bardwell style. ;]
Very nice, short and to the point tutorial. When my gear arives and I've put it all together, this will be my guide to setup my quad. From there, who knows...
Just a heads up, that bind process was 100% correct, the reason it didn't work is because it is the bind process for the wrong receiver. That's the satellite binding protocol, so it works with all the receivers that have satellite receiver "heritage." The 4649t has always been a stand-alone receiver, so you bind it like you do all stand-alone spektrum receivers - with a bind plug. Or Betaflight Devs could probably add the feature in like 10 minutes like raceflight did if they gave a crap.
Thanks Drew for being really helpful and easy to follow. I am able to follow your trick videos and howto videos very easily. You have a neck for teaching others how to do stuff! Thanks man for being awesome
About spektrum sat bind and F4 boards, you need to wire Sat signal to RX3 pad so you can put receiver to bind mode. From RCGroups: AirbotF4 has the satellite connector wired to UART1, while betaflight Revo target is hard coded to bind only on UART3. You have to either connect the Sat cable to UART3 (J4 Rx3) or bind using a separate main Rx. Impossible to fix in software since the Sbus inverter is in the way, making UART1 Rx line uni-directional. It must be bidirectional for bind to work. Only a hardware revision or modification can fix this.
Le Drib. I think I have a solution for the new 4649T receiver! When I have got my one I had spent 2 full days to find out how to make it work because of not enough details have provided by Spektrum. -Solder the receiver wire to the TX pin instead of RX -Set the Serial Receiver Provider to SRXL instead of Spektrum2048 (new Spektrum protocol) With this method the BIND and Telemetry works perfectly! I hope this information was useful for many people!
great video. I had a similar issue getting Lemon SATs to go into bind. betaflight would not save it as 2048. had to set it in CLI. then the bind code would work.
Hi Mate, The bind command works fine from the CLI but you have to be connected to the FC, any command line language is "real time" it can't save the commands and send them to the FC when it connects, it has to be connected when you issue the command. Love your work :-)
wow Spektrum is a pain in the arse! haha I always love seeing how others setup their FC firmware, great video guys. More Drib! :) P.S "Bindalated" needs to be added to the dictionary!
The 4648 does have autobind (plug in drone before powering on transmiter and rx goes into bind mode) The 4649T does require for the signal wire to see ground for bind mode. This could actually be accomplished easily with a button if Spektrum would put it on there. Or , as I've talked to Spektrum, their intent is for the flight controller to put rx into bind mode. Works really well with Raceflight, but as seen here sometimes Betaflight doesnt do it right.
Nice video Drew! Did the Spektrum receiver not go into bind mode because you didnt type save after setting it up to force bind mode? Or does it just happen to not work sometimes?
i recently bought this drone kit and its not letting me update betaflight. it just says failed to open port and the right com pot is selected, the weird thing is that i can actually configure whatever version of betaflight that is already on the board. please help
what they failed to tell you is that you must download all the drivers for beta flight like the usb to uart bridge drivers and stuff thats on the welcome page and install them for it to work properly
15:30 - this is a fail on the part of the BLHeli configurator.. but you actually selected an older version of the firmware rather than the latest. It just ordered them poorly on the screen.
Awesome video...but i dont know i have the same fc and escs and same beta configuration but i get very very warm motors near hot, i can t explain it...i checked my motor screws and they are not touching. Any help or suggestions?

Advanced users: Turn off Accelerometer. If you get stuck way high up in a tree you can arm the quad and get it out. You can't arm it if accelerometer is on and you are upside down or sideways in a tree.
Cannot connect to Betaflight even after you loaded the driver onto your mac? It could very well be the USB cable you are using is a power charging ONLY cable. Find one with DATA transfer enabled. It should connect nicely. Most USB cables that came with your Android phone will work because it allows you to connect to your comp. Took me half a day to figure this out. Hope that helps.
rotor riot do you guys have any idea what the dys f4 pro v1 should be setup for current or least what would get me closer? ive got a high amp setup but it goes to max 70amp on punchouts?
question ive hookes up my receiver to every uart on tgis board and everytging works in betaflight motors will spin I can calibrate my accelerometer and reset my axis but the receiver tab dosnt do anything when I unplug my battery it whose lost telemetry on my alarms so I'm pretty sure it's binded proper m using it with a x4r and have use this setup before any thoughts
You fly always airmode on ? I try today first time without airmode and I feel big diference but I think beter have it like you for switch and also I think beter to reverse props to keep lense cleen ;)
8:20, maybe it will not put the receiver into bind mode because if i remember correctly when the battery is not connected the Omnibus fc won't power the receiver if the fc is only powered by the USB cable, so the fc can't tell the rx to go into bind mode. p.s. i'm not sure, that's only a guess.
What happens when you aren't level when you arm? Like my qx95 has the battery on the bottom which puts it at like a 25-degree tilt if I arm like that will it be messed up? (in acro)
Hi all, need some advice as to were to start with an issue I am having. Just finished assembling my first drone (flown a few RTFs), but am experiencing some flight issues and I don't know where to start to resolve it. When I fire up the drone either on the bench or in flight (holding the bottom so it does not fly away) it seems to gradually want to compensate toward motor 3 as though there is some kind of imbalance that needs to be compensate for. It seems to gradually spool up larger and larger to the point where engines 1,2 and 4 are at 1500ish and engine 3 is sitting at around 1070, even thought he drone is perfectly balanced on the bench. I thought it might just be me, so I decided to let it go and see how it would fly....suffice to say I am glad I allocated Failsafe to Switch C!!!! Am running Betaflight, have tried with and without Antigravity and air-mode, makes no difference. post note: Blackblox indicates that engine 1, 2, and 4 at 15% engine 3 5%, by gyros all level..... help.... :)
Love your videos, I am new to the Channel, I just got to the racing hobby, I got a Radiomaster TX16S 2.4G 16CH Multi-Protocol RF System OpenTX and an EMAX Tinyhaw 2 FPV Drone, I would like to know if I have to configure the TX16 to be able to connect to the drone? What exactly are the steps? Do I need to use betaflight? Thanks
I just built my first FPV drone with CL_RACING F4S AND FRSKY XSR. And my controller is not working. I included what I have done below. After doing all this, when I move my throttle etc, nothing is being received by headlight. Please help. The only thing I seem to come up with is the data being inverted. But not sure. The settings I did are in the next post
There is a great reason to disable acc, and it's nothing to do with cpu power. If you're stuck in a tree and the qwuad is more than 30 or so degrees off horizontal, and you have the accelerometer on, you are unable to arm it. I just about lost a quad for this exact reason. Since then, i turn the Acc off in every build. The other issue with using the accelerometer to have auto levelling enable on a failsafe is that if you hit the ground before the stage 2 failsafe activates, and the quad lands upside down, it'll switch into auto level, and try to dig it's way to the centre of the earth. Definitely not worth the trouble, in my opinion. It's very easy to burn out a motor/ruin other parts having the quad go full throttle into the ground, even for a second. Having autolevel on a switch doesn't sound like a bad idea though, especially for a beginner, if you have quick enough reflexes to hit it if you say, lose video, it could be a life saver. Still not worth running the accelerometer for me though, being able to get loose from a tree is a pretty major thing when you hit as many of them as I do...
min_throttle is the slowest your props will spin when you lower the stick all the way down. min_check is the lowest value that Betaflight reacts to. For example, if you move your throttle stick up 1mm, the receiver on your quad receives a value of 1050-ish. This is just an educated guess, i don't know the exact value off the top of my head. So, if your min_check is set to default 1100, then your quad won't do anything if you raise your throttle for less than 1100 which results in a tiny dead zone on your stick. This value also applies to the low values of roll and pitch inputs. Not really a big problem, but you might as well get that little bit of stick resolution out of your transmitter right?
Is there a way to buy the parts from you and you put them all together and bind it with the radio and goggles of my choice because it’s too complicated for me and I just wanna fly 😂 Great Tutorial, learned a lot from it!!!! Thanks
Great content guys, Thanks for the informative and fun episode, this helped me get an old flip board i had on a project to arm and will be testing / thrashing and crashing it later today, thanks for your help. Also, Chad is Drew a permanent feature on the RR crew now? i feel like he needs an honorary knight hood into the RR crew. He is the man!
G. S. It was beyond basic drivers. I had to have a friend who was an IT force new drivers onto it because it was so fucked up. Took him about 30 min to fix doing all sorts of stuff to bypass it.
This is unbelievably helpful, the amount of time I've wasted trying to learn all this basic stuff before I found this! Thanks fellas

You guys should go on tour to different cities and set up a flying session at a local park where anybody can come meet and fly with you guys.
Brilliant video!!! Straight to the point, no needless talking
This has got to be one of the best, quickest, and easiest Betaflight tutorials I have ever seen! Great job Rotor Riot and Drew (Le Drib)!

Mr. Drib, good tip about the props! As I look through one of my scratched monitors and the tortured wall behind me, it makes sense!

i agree, this is definitely thee easiest flash vid I've seen yet, thank you bro!

Thank goodness you guys made this tutorial before I could try to figure it out myself
Le drib is now with rotor riot? Noice!!!!
More importantly, what eye liner you wearing homie and what improvements will it make to my flying?
Helps see through the goggles better.

Best tutorial ever, wiped my fc and this video helped me get back up in the air. Great job!!!!
Thx to you it works finally after 24 hours of brain pain. 😀
spektrum looks annoying to bind. But i had no idea about setting the small angle thanks guys i learned something today!!
Le Drib. I think I have a solution for the new 4649T receiver!

With this method the BIND and Telemetry works perfectly!
I hope this information was useful for many people!
Thanks for the tip! Saving this to try it later. Interesting find :)
you sooo saved my sanity...been fighting this for hours.thanks dude!!
Thanks much ! awesome quick video. I was looking to find the beta set up. Thanks much.
Le Drib is with you guys now? Nice!!
Yay!! I'm so excited about this now that I'm running BF3!!! :D Gonna sit down, grab a beer, and get my learn on!!
How does connecting the DJI Air Unit differ? Do you need to plug in the battery?
Start by saying i really appreciate these videos. Hope my BFF4 AIO is the same concept. Need that information. More vids like this please.
Excellent job Drew....Thank you !!

Excellent job
It's 2017 and Spektrum still uses bind plugs?
I'm guessing you guys are Frsky Fanboys
Elias R. just use a 4648t and it will go into autobind when it doesnt sense the radio.
FlipFPV - Multirotors and FPV nope, I'm a Graupner guy.

Maxxisplaying 😂🤣😂🤣
sick build
Did you not have to put this thing in bootloader mode? I'm confused you plugged it in and it worked
This video helped me tremendously
Great video!!!! One question? Do you have on eye shadow?
Nice highly informative vid. Awesome job Drew.
Can i set up a Quad with an old cheap 3D helecopter controller which was in the kit?
I know this is old but, did you just not type "save" in the CLI?
Do you also change the max_check to make sure you use the full stick throttle movement?
Default is 1900 so you loose these 100 steps at the top end.

Thanks for adding one more thing to the reasons why people are not using Spektrum in the miniquad community :)
And that would be?
What version of BLHeliSuite was that? Mine looks nothing like that.

There is a great reason to disable acc, and it's nothing to do with cpu power. If you're stuck in a tree and the qwuad is more than 30 or so degrees off horizontal, and you have the accelerometer on, you are unable to arm it. I just about lost a quad for this exact reason.
3.1.7 version changed the uart 3 port for rx, just use 3.1.6 works perfect
so what's the difference between min_throttle and min_check ?
min_throttle is the slowest your props will spin when you lower the stick all the way down. min_check is the lowest value that Betaflight reacts to.
Can you please do a Spektrum Setup guide for betaflight! Than it would be complete;)
I cant it to work on my mac. Whats the dealeo?
Is there a way to buy the parts from you and you put them all together and bind it with the radio and goggles of my choice because it’s too complicated for me and I just wanna fly 😂 Great Tutorial, learned a lot from it!!!! Thanks

When I power up my quad the motors bug out, like jumping slightly in both directions. Why?
Thanks Le Drib. Helpful vid but you are driving me nuts is "magnometer" it is mag·ne·tom·e·ter
